I missed seeing this lineup by a couple of years, but I liked these dudes, and I became an American convert in 1983. I was before seeing this video under the impression that they never toured the states until '84. Never got to see them live with Ian Paice, but I did get to see them with Cozy Powell. Nice!
I saw this line up in 81. I was no fan before and wasn't looking forward to them, but they were immense. They converted me within the first song. Hard to describe how good they were.
I'm complete with you guys: that's definitely THE Whitesnake lineup (or even a Deep Purple V2.0). Great musicians, great tunes. Good UK Rock, much better than the late 80s US version of the band.
I saw them a few times and this is the best line up and peaked with come n get it, great rhythm n blues rock band, coverdales voice was truly beautiful and he was great on stage when not posing, Ian paice was perfection, and then you had Micky, Bernie and Jon at their soulfullest before it all turned into something else
How could anyone hear their live version of Come On and not think they were the best straight ahead rock band ever? No BS, a great singer, great riffs, great songwriting and solos that rip your face off. Read Bernie's book too if you get a chance. its a great book.
Thinking about the mindless MTV masses who actually thought that dime a dozen commercially contrived generic hair band crap was a new band....no new wave of metal shredders is better than Marsden and Moody.....no way....Saints and Sinners their last great album....I need to get that Bernie book....Coverdale ran those guys out....
my fav line-up !!! Aupa Pucela Siempre !!! Salud y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
It is great fun to see and hear this line up of WS again. I heard the " Live in the heart of the city" album when it was first released. That was my first introduction to Ian Paice, later I bought Made in Japan with Paicys drum solo and it changed my life!

Great stuff. I wasn't too much into Whitesnake until I bought Saints & Sinners after hearing Here I Go Again. Realised then I was missing something. I enjoyed the Cozy Powell years equally.
You Americans do not know how fortunate you are,I would have been 16/17 y.o. and f'kn loved to have seen this, but I did get to see Brian Johnson's 2nd or 3rd gig with AC / DC in 81,but concerts like this and that are so rare in Oz."Ain't gonna cry no more today" was amazing!
i m a huge coverdale fan and i wouldn t say the same things as you do,but it s true that this era was"the best", the music came really from the heart, much more bluesy....(excuse me for my english, im french!)
Best version of fool for your lovin. The band is in the groove, the solo perfect without post metal over the top vai antics. Just pefect rock blues. Could only be British as well
No wonder David Coverdale gave me a funny look when I was right at the front center stage with a Gary Moore T shirt on! Gary Moore had THIS rhythm section Ian Paice and Neil Murray only 2 years later in 1982!!! that was when the Snake played Sydney's Hordern Pavilion October 21 1994. This is the best Whitesnake easily, and Iv'e tried to grow my hair like Coverdale[from this period] but my scalp ain't having it hahaheh.
jaime herrera In 1982 u have Purple’s three members here in Whitesnake with Pace, Lord and Coverdale. Also in 1982 u have four purple members in Rainbow. Blackmore, Glover, Turner and Airey. Strange!!!
I lisent to every type of rock metal thrash speed power from a to z in the last 30 years i mean every thing but whitesnake is one of those band are very special
I couldn't agree with you more! I mean lately I've been listening to Buckethead and jazz fusion, and yet I still make my way back to Whitesnake ALL THE TIME.
As long as it's Bernie on that million dollar plus Les Paul, I could care less what they play..break that, Ritchie...LOL. I loved Ritchie and saw DP every L.A. show since '74. I saw this band too...'78 I think. Different music and different sound; both valid. I like this stuff more than when I was a kid but it's like apples and oranges...then there is Bernie and that guitar (arguably the most valuable guitar in existance and as famous as 'Lucille' or Les's 4x4). B.B. King said "...Bernie...he's got it..." There simply is no better compliment. Go watch Bernie play the blues and then you'll understand. And his voice TODAY is awesome...Coverdale never could touch him or Sykes.
totally agree old version was better by miles, here I go again original version is rocks, but child of babylon and til the day I die are my all time faves
Jon Lord and Ian Paice who played with Coverdale in Deep Purple were in Whitesnake until the phase 2 Purple line up decided to reunite in 1984,they also mentioned in interviews that David ran the show that it was actually "his band" so to speak and that Whitesnake also became a bitter rival for Blackmore's Rainbow and that Coverdale actually came to blows with Blackmore backstage at some show they were playing together. somewhere.
I was there too!! The Glasgow Apollo choir never, ever matched. I always remember when Colin Hodgkinson took over on bass. As the choir took over on Ain't No Love he physically stepped backwards in shock as 3000 odds nutters sang at the top of their voices!
Back when Coverdale could sing! Not screech like he does now. Great band and the best line-up, Whitesnake were always meant to be a u.k based blues/hard rock band, not American poodle rock fodder!
You're missing the fact that rock music was undergoing a huge change in 1980. Bands like AC/DC, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden were high energy bands that made 70's blues rock seem boring by comparison. Coverdale had to keep up or fade into obscurity like blues rock bands like Foghat and Grand Funk Railroad.
Never saw the original Whitesnake line-up live which would have been nice... I was able to catch them during their 1987 World Tour but by then their original line-up had changed...
David Coverdale, Jon Lord, Ian Paice, Brenie Marsden, Micky Moody & Neil Murray: the best line-up ever!!!!!
yeah!!!!
Agree
Agree
Yes, of course!
What a line up! It's a pitty there is no Trouble in this video. I saw a video of Trouble but with Mel Galley instead of Bernie Marsden. RIP Bernie.
Nothin beats the early bluesy whitesnake tunes from 1978- 1982. Coverdale is the best frontman. Man can sing his heart out.
I missed seeing this lineup by a couple of years, but I liked these dudes, and I became an American convert in 1983. Classic Whitesnake - by far my favored line-up. 40 + years fan of this remarkable band. Like all the reincarnations. But this one is my favor.
I'm complete with you guys: that's definitely THE Whitesnake lineup (or even a Deep Purple V2.0). Great musicians, great tunes. Good UK Rock, much better than the late 80s US version of the band.
best line up ever.
Now THIS was Whitesnake.
wspaniały koncert, świetny skład zespołu, wielkie brawa!

3/5ths Deep Purple right here! Rest in Peace Maestro Jon Lord.
There's 6 of em 😂😐

If someday a time tunnel turns possible, I would like to go back in time to watch this fantastic gig.
The best Whitesnake line-up ever!

Saw this lineup, the very, very best. Moody is on fire! Lovely.

I really loved this line up. Big Dave's voice was truly awesome during this period, this bring back great memories of great gigs.

The only real Whitesnake!
Wow! This is fantastic. I really don't know how I've not seen this before.
Great stuff. I wasn't too much into Whitesnake until I bought Saints & Sinners after hearing Here I Go Again. Realised then I was missing something. I enjoyed the Cozy Powell years equally.
The best version of the 'snake...

best line up and best version
This is Whitesnake. Forget the crap Whitesnake of today.
I am agree with you.
Back when they were a cool band.
Nope, the best line-up was with john Sykes and Cozy Powell. Not this boring boogie woogie-band with beer-bellies and 70's porn-mustaches.

That's THE '59 Les Paul that Bernie's playing. The Beast.
Rory Gallagher the G’Man knows best!

Love this era of Whitesnake when they were a proper Rockin Blues Band👍😎

The definitive version of fool for your living..power melody passion
VERI GUT BRAVISIMOOOOO
I totally agree: holy words!!!
This is brilliant 😁 takes me back to seeing them at the Glasgow Apollo ♥
this is the same set list as one album of the double 'live in the heart of the city' which must be the best live blues rock album of all time.
Much prefer this to the late 80s, early 90s stuff.
thanks for posting
Only 8 days before Mount St. Helens erupted.
Interesting! I come from the Pacific Northwest so that's cool to know!
The true Whitesnake !
totally agree old version was better by miles, here I go again original version is rocks, but child of babylon and til the day I die are my all time faves
your right i saw this line up in glasgow awesome .
Quality stuff.
Best formation
Yes, I saw whitesnake twice in 87 and 88, it was good but I would like to see this líne up. For me it's the best, There is not comparision with anyone

Largo, MD technically. Haha. I thought maybe Washington State. But also wonder if even in the US. That logo on the screen screams UK.

Paice IAN the best man on stage, Lord too!
So Paice & Lord were BOTH the best man on stage? That takes some doing!
