So my comment is totally unrelated to this specific video but it does relate to all of your videos. I just want to say thank you for doing what you do! I just completed my 609 certification for heavy duty diesel. I know now that what you do as a job is a totally different certification but everything is mostly the same. I’m starting my third week of AC systems and your videos have helped me almost every time weather it be how a txv works to how to apply the bubble solution the best way. You have helped me a lot!

Is there a reason why all these HVACR-Parts are not made of stainless steel? I think this would prevent leaking and would save costs in the long run. Bonus: The RTU would't look like a rusty mess if it sat for several years in the rain.
In industrial kitchens there is everything made of stainless steel - so the refrigerant lines and condensers wouldn't be that more expensive in the big picture.

Just a bit curious what the rules and regs are for topping up a system in the US with a known leak in the system.
I’m in Australia and by law we aren’t allowed to do it, $250’000 fine or 2 years Jail and loss of licence. So much easier to top off a system to see if it’s working correctly before recovering the gas

I kind of want to meet the guy who thought it would be useful to have the leak detector relentlessly beep while you are trying to work. What is it a life and death situation where you need positive feedback every second ? The blinking LEDs not enough of a hint that its working and detected NOTHING ? Feels so great to walk around a building with this obnoxious wand in your hand and if you shut it off for a second it punishes you with maximum beeping during warmup.
    Screw that guy.

I have trouble completely understanding why you need to change the charge from winter/summer. Does the ambient temp really change that much? There is a 15deg swing between winter/summer where I live so it's unconscionable to me. Would a bigger receiver solve the problem? If I head out west far enough it gets a lot colder, some of the heating units (reverse cycle hvac) I need to put defrost mode on the outdoor condenser unit because it ices over, but still the units operate within range. Maybe I'm fat because refrigeration is so easy in my area lol

@Timothy Salomon are you saying, he is charging to best ability at one time of year, then adjusting charge at a better time of year, and then not changing the charge after it has been charged at the best time of year?
Or that the system has been designed to require 2 different charges and must always be changed for correct operation? If so, would the unit fail if not done or just put more pressure on the tx or condenser ect..

Typically found on liquid line. Just a method of checking whether a system is in a fault condition as the sight glass should look empty when it has 100% liquid. If it’s a saturated mix it will “flash” and that tells you there may be a fault in the system 👍🏻 very basic explanation but hope it helps

Correct me if I'm wrong but the only difference between the old refrigerants and the new supposedly atmospheric safe refrigerants is removal of chlorine from the mixture. Most of the new refrigerants are still hydrofluorocarbons where as the old systems used hydrochlorofluorocarbons.
Chlorine and fluorine are both halogens and I know that fluorine and fluorides are toxic to humans so I'm surprised that we still use hydrofluorocarbons.
