Thank you for mentioning not putting service gauges on. I used to take care of a complex with 72 heat pumps on the roof and when i started, the building engineer got angry with me and said I didn't know what i was doing because I wasn't putting my gauges on while doing maintenance like the previous service tech did. I asked him how many units had defrost issues in the winter and he said it was always a problem. I explained that the units had a charge designed to provide heat and and cooling and every time gauges were put on and off they lost a small amount of refrigerant and eventually it affected the performance of the unit. I told him I take temperature readings to determine if the unit was operating correctly. You are the first tech I have ever heard mention that on a vlog. Good job.

Ice makers are sensitive to minor changes to their charge. I was taught ice makers before refrigerant blends hit the market. And with blends now, it's that much more critical.

@robertwood9628 I don't trust techs who put gauges on a machine just for maintenance.. IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DONT FIX IT!!!. temp readings, amps, sounds, I spect for damages, inspect the contacts, clean it, look for loose wiring, I sect damage, environmental damage, oil. YOU DONT NEED GAUGES IF ITS WORKING AS IT SHOULD.

We have run across a couple of "maintenance" companies in South Florida that produced similar results. Turned out that a former apprentice who worked for a hvac refrigeration company and didn't complete the training because of inability to grasp the principles. So he started his own "cleaning company" and deliberately underpriced other legitimate servicing companies. Problem was he didn't know the factory recommended procedures, used improper supplies /filters, it was a disaster. He failed at cleaning as well. Last time we checked he was doing Roofing..... Lol

I'm a lead tech with my company, and I always advise my guys to use stubby gauges on a critically charged system. Stubbies allow you to check a lot without robbing the charge. Myself and some of my guys use a service 90 degree fitting that has a thumbscrew Schrader depresser. It's a game changer. I really appreciate your content, and I've learned a lot from you. I very much subscribe to the big picture diagnosis mentality and preach that to my guys. Keep doing what you do. You are one of the few who really help pass on the good knowledge that we as senior techs have acquired over years of service and lots of learning the hard way. I know what it takes to do what you do, and I appreciate your dedication. You make a difference.

    • @HVACRVIDEOS
      @HVACRVIDEOS  Місяць тому +2

During the summer Ice machines dont take a back seat but It's very situational. For example if it needs a deep cleaning after a repair I will give it a good quick cleaning but schedule a deep cleaning the following day. Also sometimes in a emergency situation I will temporarily get a machine running only to schedule a deeper more permanent repair a day or two later when time allows.

absolutly. If you fix it, you just lost the ability for cause and effect, the person who last worked on the machine just got a free pass for their work because the evidence has been lost..
leave it broke, tell the customer what you found.
Let the customer make the decision. Awesome take on the right way to work!!!

At each cycle end a certain amount of water needs to be dumped down the drain to prevent sludge and mineral build-up. The ice is very pure but the calcium and lime stay in solution -- so proper filling and draining are very important. It looks like this machine does not drain off enough water when water-fall stops, thus hardness would keep building up in the reservoir. Maybe scale prevents good drainage. Inlet filters can also become a problem if machine is starved for water. The reservoir is for water not for scale build-up.

They couldn’t fake it because we watched them like hawks. It was an outpatient surgery center. Got back into the hospital and the only cleaning done was before our federal inspections. One of the observers took apart one machine and it was so gross, the hospital got a bunch of dings. One for every machine in the hospital. Forced them to yearly clean the machines.

Good job laying of the gauges until there's a proven need for them.
We had a new client start up with us. I went up to do the intake diagnostics and found every unit low charge by 2 to 4 pounds.
I checked each unit with my Bacharach, and found not a single leak outside of Schrader valves.
Years of maintenance techs gauging up and being lazy about emptying the gauges back into the system did it.
Depending on your hose ste and manifold, it's anything from 2 to 5 ounces each time you gauge up without putting that refrigerant back in the system. That's in addition to any spray loss when gauging up.
Check line temperature before gauging up.

Spit and rub with sleeve - 50 parrots
Do not spit and rub with sleeve - 100 parrots
Same, but not ajust your set - 500 parrots
Do a proper cleaning, by calling Chris - 5x Chris' price

Shut that ice machine down and bleach it!
Scrub it with some Baking Soda!!!!!
    Then a hot water wash/rinse.
Scrub out all the ice making trays.
    DETAIL IT!!!!
I have built many restaurants and upon finishing them we would go thru all the new machinery and clean and sterilize it for use.
Just because it's new does not make it clean.
This kind of maintenance on an ice machine should be monthly!!!!!

iOS devices have a lot of issues when it comes to photos and video. One of the biggest is no ability to actually control resolution. So I'd agree that while you can stick with the iOS devices for personal stuff? Get something else for this job.

The date of the file should be in the pictures app, when you select the file, look at the upper left corner of the video. it should show the date, time, and location the video was taken. If you swipe up partially while the video is playing, it will show the information under the video being played.
