Finally, we need more of this. I'm playing Brahms' Op.117 No.2 and it is one of the best things I have ever done as a pianist. All Brahms' late piano works are awesome.
@@nilskroehl Try to identify the main phrases of the first section and give them a specific function or feeling. The whole piece is based upon the interval of a 2nd and a 4th, so try highlighting them. Once you know it a bit check a small bit and see what pedaling is going to give it the most consistency while not blending bad dissonances. For a piece like this is very important to identify all the layers, in this case you would have the melody, right hand filling, left hand filling and bass (at least in the first section); give each of those a character (for example make the bass sound as close as a bell as possible and make the melody as smooth as possible). There are lots of things to think and talk about this piece, the main idea is to while you learn it you really get to understand what you are playing.
I also thought that Brahms was garbage. BUT then I listened to his op 117 no 2 (and 1 and 3 also) Those pieces were dark as hell and I loved it. Then I listened to his Paganini variations. I thought that it couldn’t be better than Liszts. I was 100% wrong. So Brahms is now in the radar for me. Also his 119 no 1 and 2 are very cool pieces.
OHH And the last piece of this op 118, is also very dark and mysterious. It starts outlining the Dias irae theme. Paul Barton has possibly my favorite interpretation
This piece of music is amazing indeed! I also recorded it recently on my channel. I sometimes have the feeling that you often play the same music as I do, but then I realize that you simple play ALL romantic classical music.
I realized why Traum never shows his face. It's because he's obviously a superhero. His super power: The ability to play endless amounts of amazing piano music! Amazing ♥️! I'm currently learning Brahms' intermezzo op. 117 no. 2 so your upload has a great timing for me and at the same time inspires me to do better

This is an amazing intermezzo. I play it as a romantic piece for my piano exams this year. I loved th piece from when I first listened to it, although it is pretty rich in detail to be performed correctly. I really loved your performance! Keep it up, you are awesome!
I'm back here after going through what you experienced. I just started learning fingerstyle guitar and I managed to learn some pretty tough music. I couldn't sleep all night, I just wanted to play it over and over again. It felt like my guitar was staring at me, tempting me to play it 😣
