- It seems that with the success of the incredible DOOM video game adaptation with The Rock and further successful video games being released...it was decided that another movie must be made.
The EFAP crew venture forth and enjoy the fruits of more video game movie adaptations.
the DOOM movie, adapted directly from the video game. Needless to say, it's a classic.

Funniest thing to me in this movie was how instead of saying Cryosleep they kept saying Cryptosleep and I couldn't stop imagining their sleep being valued in bitcoin.

Ah, but see, by being closest to your opponent when you shoot, your bullets need to travel less distance, meaning they hit less air, and their speed get diminished less by air resistance.
Clearly, this is the way to maximize DPS.

@@ATRAYA Damn, that's smart. If you take into account that and the fact that shooting point blank diminishes the curve of the bullets' trayoectory arc, making it easier to aim, I think it's pretty clear point blank is the smartest way to shoot. I don't know what Mauler's going on about.

@@sparkypack canonically Doom Guy is related to the main character of the Wolfenstein games, so the decapitated dude named William J. Blazkowicz was probably him.

@@HushedObserver101 I know it was cannon back then and I know the Wolfenstein RPG has it so you slice off the arm and leg of the Demon with the same sprites of the Cyberdemon without the cybernetics and the Demon vows to get revenge on your bloodline which that Demon will later become a Cyberdemon and I would assume specifically the Cyberdemon in Doom 1 Tower of Babel. But is that cannon for the latest games though? Especially since there have been other Wolfenstein & Quake games. It's still heavily implied to be the case, I'm just not sure if it is 100% guaranteed to be the case though.

In Event Horizon, when Lawrence Fishburne finds the cliché recording of people screaming and suffering, he just slaps the screen closed and says "We're leaving." Best moment of that cliché.

As a passing efap Bulgarian, let's respond to all here - these are Russian stereotypes, let's not confuse the fine details.
In Bulgaria - the Adidas yes, definitely. The hard bass - no, here we have what we call pop-folk. And I doubt the cocaine, never heard it being available. My bet would be on something cheaper like sniffing glue. And no vodka - we have a national drink called rakiya, but the Trabant (or Moskvich/Lada/Zhiguli) and AK-47 sound plausible.
The oldest movie I can remember using that 'recording when hell broke loose" thing is Even Horizon. Actually did a good job at it, they went all the way, to the point where it got censored in a few countries. Good movie too.

Why is it so hard to do a Doom movie? It's literally the simplest concept ever. Why are Demons from hell so hard to figure out? So that it doesn't offend the Chinese?
Right?? Literally all they had to do was something similar to Hardcore Henry, hell just hire the people who made that film and get them to make a doom film and follow the source material! I love doom a lot, but the plot has never been the focus it's always had an emphasis on "Rip and tear... Until it is done" just put in some slight plot details enough to get what is going on and why, and spend the rest of the film killing hordes of demons! So easy to do! How do you screw that up not once but twice??
@@omegamysterio3701 Hell, Eternal didn't even have a plot. It just had random shit happening that was being half explained in codex entries. Eternal had the opposite of a plot and yet this movie sucks more.
@@pezdispencer113 Eternal gives you SOME stuff to be like "Ok here's some of the Doomslayers backstory but we're keeping it vague for the most part, you get the bare minimum" that's really all in terms of story beyond learning heaven and hell have an alliance and none of it is the focus just stuff to add to the experience, what doom is all about is non-stop action, blood and guts, gore, brutal violence and a kick ass soundtrack! THAT is doom in its purest form, story takes a backseat and it would be so simple to just do that! A guy killing demons because he's to pissed off to die, that's it! Literally just Hardcore Henry the Hell (pun intended) out of a doom movie and give us 90 to 120 minutes of it! That's really all people expect, it's not Shakespeare lol you don't need the extra padding to it just slap some armor on a guy, give him a boomstick and put demons everywhere! 👍 Congratulations they've done it! Lol

I think people misunderstand me. I thought Eternal was extremely bad and a massive step down from 2016. The first one still had a cohesive plot, it was just that the character (Doomguy) didn't care or pay much attention, however the player did get all the beats. Eternal on the other hand is super convoluted with factions and characters thrown in with no explanation. There is clearly a civil war happening within the demon faction with all the fighting between their possessed troops and demon troops but it's never addressed. At many times things are just stated in one liners which just makes them true without an logic behind how, you killed the priests so the earth invasion is stopped.... Somehow. There's no explanation as to where Doomguy got his ship and what stops him for teleporting anywhere he needs to go at any time. This is only the narrative and universe related issues as well, gameplay is a completely separate mess.
It's not a good game guys, even by 'Doom Standards' (ie ignoring plot entirely).
This movie makes the classic mistake of acting like the characters can only see what's in-frame, so they just constantly get jump-scare attacked. Such a tism of a movie trope. Also Why would you waste the black guy with the LMG like that? He only got to scream once!
Rian Johnson was a contributor. He said they should subvert everyone's expectations.
Imagine being more accurate than the 2005 DooM, but being worse than that movie.

DOOM: The Rock might be a terrible movie, but it's a guilty pleasure of mine. I love that movie for all it's ridiculous shittiness.
At least Doom with the Rock is fun and rewatchable. And has some interesting character interactions. This? This is just cheap boring crap.
If only they returned Carl Urban, it would be at leasst watchable...

The AI being named Daisy is a reference to Doom Guy's rabbit who died in the ending of the first game. The second game is partially about Doom Guy getting revenge for her death.

Fun fact: Bertruger was also the villain in Doom 3. His shtick in the game is more or less the same as the film. Makes portal to hell, becomes the servant of hell spawn, and in the game - upon failing his overlords - is transformed into a weird hell creature where his face is essentially the inner mouth of a flying demon like a Xenomorph.

Those definitions are so similar they could just as easily have called it Doom Doom and it would have made as much sense.

It’s an accomplishment that they tried to have a more accurate version of the BFG, and it still looks worse than the 2005 version.
I dunno, I feel like if Doom had wall breaking physics, the BFG would 100% melt holes into walls.
The Rifles are .22s and the pistols are .45, clearly.
I really wish DOOM Slayer just randomly showed up and shook his head in disappointment before leaving.

MOVIE IDEA: characters are scientists on Mars, they accidentally open hell and among demons, doomguy emerges out too, many die and the few character surviving burrows in doom bunkers which have something doomguy needs so both sides encounters, they don't really understand what he says but strike a deal to help doomguy get his job done while they try to do the the tasks while surviving, with doomguy coming out of the blue on several instances to kill demons after the scientists.
It's a survival horror where demons are a super strong threat while doomguy's rampage damages several systems and some life support systems in some areas through sheer collateral damage, a cross between physical and environmental threats.
Also every scenes where doomguy approaches into the scene or is just there, heavy metal music blasts like an aura of noise around him.
The number of weapons he weilds would be explained by a black aura of argent energy around his back materializes his weapons, Everytime the BFG is shot it destroys a part of the place and knocks out lights within a hundred meters.
I think the fanbase would be really happy to finally see such a concept.

@@sparkypack Oh I thought you were talking about annihilation. The BFG in the first Doom Movie was better but they got the colour wrong. Cool fact in custom Doom Sourceport (can't remember which one) they had a BFG10k and changed the sprite to look like the one from the movie except it still fired green.

Joan Dark? Get it, like Joan d'Arc? Not only is her name as edgy as a Sonic OC, they literally just took a strong female historical figure and swapped out one letter. Edgy, yet blunt at the same time. That's talent there.
Unironically, the best part of this movie is the credits because of the names. Legitimately amusing.
To the question of people in a movie landing in a place and finding a recording of prior events: I know Event Horizon did it. But the earliest example I can think of before my time is The Thing when Doc and Macready find the video of the Norwegian scientific outpost

They played the insano crew videos where they were all killing themselves in crazy ways and ripping their guts and eyes out and chanting in Latin, and the second the videos stop, Captain Lawrence Fishburn says fuck this "We're leaving", and it's so funny because that reaction and delivery are so natural, it's exactly what the audience would do too, it's great.

Why is Sonic the best video game movie at the moment? Out of all the franchises that have had movie adaptations, Sonic is the best one for some reason
Because they basically just ripped off the plot of E.T which has been ripped off multiple times before and is fairly popular among little kids.
I'd still say the original Mortal Kombat is the best attempt.
Sonic however did a very good job I feel, and I liked Rampage, it was dumb fun xD.
They somehow broke both the Sonic Curse and the Video Game Movie Curse at the same time.

So, in case anyone wasn’t aware, Malcom Betruger was the main antagonist of DOOM 3: he’s not an original movie character (though the accuracy of the movie to the game is most likely very thin)
EDIT: 26:47 there were zombies in the original games. The only game I played in full was 2016, and in that game their explanation for why zombification occurred was exposure to something called the Lazarus wave. The Possessed enemies and the Revenants are all a result of Lazarus wave exposure. Not really the case here though.
Doom 3 had some kind of hell skulls that would possess humans. The Summoners could also possess humans with their wave attack as well and I believe Lost Souls would attempt to transfer themselves into humans by exploding themselves. The zombies in eternal are ones not made from Lazarus waves but were made from straight up having their souls sucked and they would later turn into actual demons apparently after wandering around aimlessly in hell for untold millennia's.
In Doom 3, Dr. Betruger turns out to be a villain literally 15 minutes into the game. He's not a twist. That's why the name is at least moderately excusable there, unlike here where they try to pass him off as a good guy for 90% of the film.
Fusion energy would unironically be the safest kind of energy. The "dangerous" kind of nuclear energy the movie talks about is fission energy.
I love that the “Times of Death” are relevant to the EFAP video and not the movie timestamp.
The amount of dumb in this movie is absolutely staggering.
