Fun Fact: When Rob Paulsen was first approached to read for Donatello, the first thing he asked was if Barry Gorden (80s Donnie) was going to be involved in the new series. If he was, he refused to be cast as Donnie because to him, "Barry WAS Donatello."
Fun Fact #2: 2012 Donatello was originally going to be the quiet, pacifistic member of the group who was always patient. They were planning on having him loose his cool near the end of the first season as "building up" joke. When Paulen yelled one of the lines, the writers thought that was so funny that they changed his character to a more uptight, easily stressed nerd. (I'm not sure how accurate this one is, but it sounds like some Paulsen would've done during the first reading.)

I like the 2003 voice best. It's so soothing to me for some reason.
1) Sam Riegel has a very sexy soothing Donatello voice. It just makes me melt. 2) Rob Paulsen has a very cute sarcastic Donatello voice. 3) Corey Feldman has a funny Donatello voice. Funny enough these are also my favourites out of all the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series and films. 1) 2003 series. 2) 2012 series. 3) 1990 film.
Sam Rigel? I don't get it GUYS, Donatello is NOT suppose to sound sexy. He's a nerdy scientist that enjoys building stuff. Barry Gordon is the only voice actor that really compliments his personality, but to each its own lol

Pretty funny, while in the english version of the 2003 version his voice is sexy & soothing, in my country (hungarian) his voice is high and nerdy and when I saw this english version (I watched the one in my language first cus of curiosity and wanted to understand everything because my english is still not perfect) I was like woah, soo different lol

In 2003 he didn't look super-nerdy, even though he does prefer to mostly work on his inventions. Otherwise he comes off as the chill, level-headed guy who just keeps the team together. For this I think Sam Riegel nails the voice just well
I use to envy Sam Riegel’s voice so bad. he just sounded so smart and laid back playing Donatello I couldn’t help but be jealous.
I discovered who Sam Riegel was through Critical Role only to find out through this video that I've known his voice for YEARS and had no idea - the 2003 TMNT was my childhood!! I had no clue Sam voiced Donny but hearing it now brought on so much nostalgia 😭😭💕

Exactly the same for me! I watched TMNT 2003 as a kid, and now I've been watching CR for over three years, but it was only _this_ year I learned he voiced Donatello! As a kid Michelangelo was my favourite, but Donatello was a close second, and if I watched again now he'd probably be my favourite ❤

Donatello in the 2014 movie was one of the few things that they got even remotely right. He's the adorkable nerd done properly.
But Sam Rigel is defintiely the best Donatello, without him the 2003 TMNT gang would fall apart (this was actually confirmed in a bad future episode).

I think they got him wrong. They focused on him being a stereotypical nerd rather then focus on his actual personality. In fact the 2014 movie just pretty much went for the stereotype on all of them. Don is intelligent and reasonable and perhaps a little OCD before being a nerd. Raph is passionate, protective and emotional receptive before being a rage monster. Leonardo is hard-working, composed, responsible before being a blank gary stu. Mikey is fun, versatile and open before being a creeper. 2014 basically forgone character development for an easy way out and for that made the Turtles background material.
The only problem I have with 2003 Donatello is that sometimes it felt as though the actor Sam could’ve done Leonardo as well because of how calm he voiced.
In order:
1. Sam Rigel 2:37 - He has this cool, calm voice that is really soothing to listen to.
2. Yuri Lowenthal 4:08 - Like Sam, he has a cool, calm, and soothing voice. Those kinds of voices suits Donnie best, I think. Though I can't help but think Yuri's voice suits Leo as well.
3. Jeremy Howard 4:31 - Has a really cute geeky voice, 'nuff said.
4. Rob Paulsen 3:38 - Captured Donnie's 'teenager' side perfectly, as well as his nerdy geeky side. xD
5. Mitchell Whitfield 2:55 - Always adored his voice here. He can be calm, then geeky, then panicky, then calm again without breaking in character.

Agreed. Sam is probably my favourite, but Mitchell also sounds good, and his performance through that tech support scene is really funny and so expressive.

Sam Regal - Arguably one of the best incarnations of the character and one of my personal favorites. Witty, intelligent, very likable, surprisingly attracts a lot of female attention in-show, and OH MY GOD! If it's not sexiness I melt in, it's flat out ADORABLENESS! I just wanna hug him! I just HATED how he was so sidelined by the others, and the writers didn't give ANY development or closure to some of the Donnie-centric events in that series, like, idk, 'SAME AS IT NEVER WAS'!?! COME ON, THERE WAS NO SUCH CLOSURE TO THAT HELL HE WENT THROUGH, AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT (apart from fanfiction)!!! Even the episodes leading up to the Good Genes could've had more development!!! THERE WAS SO MUCH MORE THEY COULD'VE DONE BUT DIDN'T!!!!
Jeremy Howard - Dorky, cute, awesome nerd, but hated how he didn't get as much spotlight as the others did (I've found this to be a trend with Donnie, and that is unacceptable)
Rob Paulsen - I love Rob Paulsen in general, and his Donatello is one of my favorite roles by him. The intelligence and dorkiness are lovable to me, and he has some of the best lines in the show! Also, he has so much more prominence in the show than in previous incarnations, so more Donnie focus YAY!!! The only thing I have to criticize is his portrayed 'greatest fear' in the 'Fungus Humongous' episode. After watching the 2003 series' infamous SAINW episode…come on, writers, you could've done better than what you did! Hopefully, this will be amended in future episodes.
Mitchell Whitfield - Only just heard this one recently, but it's kinda grown on me
speaking of 2k3 Donnie development: they couldn't do that because there was no time for do it. if they did that, they wouldn't have any time spare for Leo bitching and being angry shit. so consider that :0

Barry Gordon will always be the definitive cartoon voice of Don to me, although Rob Paulsen does a great job with the current incarnation of Don...it's great to have a tie-in to the original series. Sam Riegel did a good job too, though. As far as the movies, there is only one voice for Donnie as far as I'm concerned, and that's Corey Feldman.

I've been watching Critical Role for over three years now, but it wasn't until earlier _this_ year that I found out Sam Riegel voiced Donatello in TMNT 2003! When I watched as a kid Michelangelo was my favourite, but Donatello was a close second, and if I watched again now he'd probably be my favourite ❤ (He was also the viewpoint character of "The King", an episode I really like.)
They are all brilliant but my favorites to me are both Sam Rigel doing the 2003 and Mitchell Whitfield doing the 2007 Donatello, they both fit so well. But I might be being a bit bias coz them two are my favorite versions of Donatello lol

I have to say it's close between Sam Rigel and Rob Paulsen (but I grew up with the 2k3 season).
Also these videos sort of reminded me about the next mutation, thanks for that, I had purged that series from my memory so that I could ignore the fact that it exists and is technically cannon.
Rob Paulsen is my FAVORITE Donatello. Sam Rigel did a great job, too. Mitchell Whitfield wasn't bad either. But Paulsen was the best and I will die on that hill.
Whoever did the voice of the Purple masked Turtle Donatello on TMNT Heroes in a Half-Shell Chapters 1 through 5 deserves to be featured here. It was an Archie comic book series with character voice talent and a narrator on recorded cassette tapes. It was published by Random House too.
I grew up with Sam Rigel’s voice but Rob Paulsen definitely had more enthusiasm in his voice and sounded more like a teenager.
Corey Feldman, Adam Carl were my first Donnies. They'll always hold a special place in my heart, but Rob Paulsen and Jeremy Howard are my favorites.

Jeremy Howard was just SO good!!! I wouldn't have cast him any other way! He was perfect!!! I hope he stays for the sequel. I hope they all stay for the sequel (and I also mean Megan Fox. It would just feel odd if she wasn't there.)
