  • In this video, I’ll install Unit Garage’s high-mount exhaust for the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, complete with lots of visuals of the exhaust and a sound clip at the end. This is part of a series of videos, chronicling my Ducati Scrambler X Baja Build.

    Dramatically underrated channel! Great video with very nice editing!
    UNIT Garage is close to where I live, their Scrambler-dedicated products are wonderful. Plus, as you mentioned, they come from the mind of a 5-times Dakar participant, who definetely knows what's needed on a bike that would face "adventurous" trails. This stuff is built for a reason, not (just) for style.
    I just wish they offered a engine guard that would fit their exhaust system. Desert Sled's ground clearance is great, but so is extra protection...you never know...I
    If you went for the un-catalized version, I deeply suggest to get the ecu flashed too. That will really make the engine put that open pipe to good use!

      Grazie Giacomo! I too wish they had crash bars and a skid plate that were designed to work well with their exhaust. I am considering the Hepco & Becker engine guard, but I expect I will have to cut away a small part of the carbon fiber heat shield to make it work. Thanks for the great feedback! Hopefully, there will be a W.D.W. some day soon and we can all connect in Ricccione.

    Dessert sled is my new dream bike but the low hanging exhaust betrays it's off-roading abilities and looks a little weird imo. This mod solves that.. nice work!

    Well, how does she run? I love the videos and would love to know what you think of the exhaust. Just picked up a desert sled, “without an exhaust” and I need to quickly get something before I go deaf or killed by my neighbors. Cheers, and keep-’em coming.

    I have a 2020 sled also. Did you choose the catalytic option with your exhaust? If not, will you flash the ecu?

    • @ArrickMaurice
      @ArrickMaurice  3 роки тому +1

      I went with the no cat version, but they actually sell it separately in case you decide to go this route and want to add it later. I haven't flashed the ECU and don't really have plans to at this point as the bike rode great in it's first couple of short runs. Feels uncorked, sounds great, and no real sputtering or backfiring to be concerned about. I'll reassess later down the road if necessary.

      @@michaeldavis1563 Right on. Maybe I should make a dedicated video with onboard footage and sound to illustrate how well or not it’s running. 🤔 It’s usually pretty obvious when there’s fueling issues.

      @@ArrickMaurice I'm not sure sound will convince anybody. The popular thought is that Scramblers run super lean and hot with stock pipes. Opening up the exhaust without a flash just leans it out that much more. I've also seen folks claim better throttle response and gains in horsepower with a ecu flash. On the flip-side, some folks claim they've run open/baffled pipes for years without any issues. I'd love to see dyno numbers but I wouldn't know what I was looking at. LOL!! Good luck man. I'm looking forward to more of your build.

    How’s the heat on your legs during normal riding temperatures? With the stock setup, i felt like my legs were getting cooked at stops and slower speeds.

    • @ArrickMaurice
      @ArrickMaurice  3 роки тому +1

      This depends a lot on where and how you’re riding. If it’s hot outside and you’re going slow, you’ll definitely feel the heat. However, most of the time, it’s not that noticeable to me. That said, I just did a bunch of off road riding and when you’re moving around the bike a lot, your pant can come in contact with the exhaust where it is exposed, so I will be adding exhaust wrap soon which should also help with any heat issues.

    Do you plan on running engine guards with that exhaust? What are the options? I have this exhaust and I'm trying to figure out the sleekest way to run some protection. It'll be taken on trails after all.

    • @ArrickMaurice
      @ArrickMaurice  2 роки тому +1

      I installed the Hepco & Becker engine guards and they fit perfectly with this exhaust system. They also did an amazing job of protecting the bike during my trip to Baja where they were definitely put to the test.

      @@ArrickMaurice Haha! Glad to hear you're using your bike the way you're supposed to. I told myself I would too, but it's just so beautiful and you don't want to ding it in any way. But I will definitely be going out into the desert . I shipped my bike from NYC recently and I'm currently just south of the Sahara. Appreciate the response! Gonna see if I can get the engine guards shipped here somehow! I was indeed looking at Hepco & Becker.
