That Chapter has honestly become so familiar to me, that it's kind of a comfort, similar to what The Office was before it was taken off american Netflix. There's something SO WRONG that we find our respite in a Brutal crimes show :) But Mike is just funny as heck and enjoyable to watch and to be fair, it's the RARE show that really hits me hard. It's a detached view of people we don't know. No worse than reading crime in the newspapers. But when it involves kids or other defenseless groups, then it gets tough to just let it slide off. But for the most part, Mike is like a teddy bear you hold when you go to bed. And i'm a 54 year old guy :)

I think the others are correct regarding it's a tactic. But I don't think it's to screw with him. Les is a pretty common nickname for people named Lester, if im not mistaken. Most probably his mother and father did refer to him as Les, hence "Les" carries emotional value to him. It was a way to try to get on his good side. "Les.. Dont even say that to me, I don't wanna hear it".. That is how you talk to a child you caught lying, and I think that is what she is trying to do.
It's funny because that's what I have always thought. I cannot believe the number of people I have known that have never discussed this before marriage! It is mind boggling. Sometimes it doesn't matter even if you do. I was very clear with my spouse before marriage that while I think kids are great, I did not want any of my own. He told me he never wanted kids either. Months into the marriage he said he'd changed his mind because he loved me so much he wanted a family with me. But he's also hinted that he always wanted kids, and only said otherwise because he wanted to marry me and was hoping I'd change my mind.

You should definitely discuss children before marriage,but they also married right after high school. It’s not uncommon for 18/19 year olds to feel very differently about wanting children in their mid 20s/30s then they did as teens.
What would be worse is finding out they don't want kids after you have kids. She did the right thing finding a different partner instead of taking it upon herself to bring a child/children into the first marriage. Definitely a conversation that needs to be had, ideally before getting married. BOTH partners should be on board BEFORE anyone gets pregnant. Birth control is so incredible now, it lends itself wonderfully to family planning.

Thank you. I was just going to write a long post about this. Your average every day American doesn’t know shit about the justice system, they watch CSI and think they’re experts. The prosecutors shit the bed on this one and relied on the stupidity of the jury. They didn’t meet the burden of proof, couldn’t place him at the scene of the crime, no forensic evidence to support he committed the crime, no crime scene, no murder weapon, no motive. Just some bunk ass circumstantial evidence. I agree I think he did it too, but I don’t know for absolute fact he did. If I was a juror I could not convict that man with such a weak case against him. And if anyone’s to blame it’d be the prosecution for pushing such a weak case. God people are dumb.

There was just too weak a connection between him and the girl for me to say it was proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Not every human being has a cookie cutter brain, and thus, two humans can react completely oppositely when presented with the same situation. Similarly, mannerisms and other body language varies from person to person. You can never truly know what someone's body language means unless you know that person quite well. In other words, you wouldn't be able to tell if someone was lying to you or not with absolute certainty on your first meeting. It's ridiculous to assume you could, but media and shows like "Lie to me" and even police training tells you that you can read minds just by watching someone's eyes or... the way they nod!

If the best evidence the prosecution has is essentially "he might have done it and we can't think of anyone else", that should be enough to cause reasonable doubt.

I love your content, Mike. Every other channel that reviews cases solved or cold, will always have this obnoxious "scary ambience" playing in the background. Personally, the choice to have things more serious, less scary, and sometimes oddly upbeat makes your videos stand out as something truly special. I respect you.
That Chapter has honestly become so familiar to me, that it's kind of a comfort, similar to what The Office was before it was taken off american Netflix. Ita like, you've seen most, but there are some gems you miss once in a while. It's funny because that's what I have always thought. I cannot believe the number of people I have known that have never discussed this before marriage! It is mind boggling. One of the most basic things. It's as if they gave no thought or talked about their hopes ands goals if life! (Cause for me that would have come up)
Sometimes it doesn't matter even if you do. I was very clear with my spouse before marriage that while I think kids are great, I did not want any of my own. He told me he never wanted kids either. Months into the marriage he said he'd changed his mind because he loved me so much he wanted a family with me. But he's also hinted that he always wanted kids, and only said otherwise because he wanted to marry me and was hoping I'd change my mind.
Finally someone else mentions it. I was like, WTF? Makes you wonder what the divorce rate is with high school sweethearts. Can't be good lol. You're not even the same person you were in high school by the time you're 25.
You should definitely discuss children before marriage,but they also married right after high school. It’s not uncommon for 18/19 year olds to feel very differently about wanting children in their mid 20s/30s then they did as teens.
What would be worse is finding out they don't want kids after you have kids. She did the right thing finding a different partner instead of taking it upon herself to bring a child/children into the first marriage. Definitely a conversation that needs to be had, ideally before getting married. BOTH partners should be on board BEFORE anyone gets pregnant. Birth control is so incredible now, it lends itself wonderfully to family planning.

The prosecutors shit the bed on this one and relied on the stupidity of the jury.
They didn’t meet the burden of proof, couldn’t place him at the scene of the crime, no forensic evidence to support he committed the crime, no crime scene, no murder weapon, no motive. Just some bunk ass circumstantial evidence.
I agree I think he did it too, but I don’t know for absolute fact he did. If I was a juror I could not convict that man with such a weak case against him.
And if anyone’s to blame it’d be the prosecution for pushing such a weak case. God people are dumb.

I just had a revelation. After watching a whole load of your content, I realized that you, Mike, will sadly, never ever run out of content. As time goes on and people go on, there will be cases like this over and over and over. That just projected a picture of a 93 year old Mike doing videos twice a week.

She's ignoring jurisprudence... why not ignore his right to respect in the court. The court ignored professionalism, social customs, unbiased fight for justice, and oath of office. It's typical behavior of a DA when they have no real evidence, and therefore need to manipulate the jury's perception of the defendants guilt. When evidence is scarce, dramatics and misrepresentation of the truth will suffice. Another disrespectful, self-entitled, self-righteous, authority figure shamelessly exhibiting abuse of power. Another agent of the gov't with a power trip.
And I'm not implying that the guy is innocent, I'm unequivocally stating that the charges against him were not proven... at all... and certainly not beyond a reasonable doubt.

I can not in my wildest imagination see why he should be convicted. I'm not saying it was not him, but they have no proof what so ever. How can one be judged without any hard evidence?
Not saying he's innocent, but its cases like this as to why there are so many genuinely innocent people in prison.

@@waggadorn Which criminal would leave their car next to their place after they murdered the owner? There was no DNA on the victim that matched his, no DNA on the victim's car that matched his, basically no evidence that he did it. Any evidence they have is entirely circumstantial.

@@anonymousarmadillo6589 Entirely circumstantial evidence does not mean a person cannot or should not be found guilty. Too many people today, spoiled by crime shows where there is always forensic evidence (e.g., DNA, videotapes of the killer, etc.). And yet, in this particular case, I will agree that I didn't find sufficient evidence that this man was guilty. There was just too weak a connection between him and the girl for me to say it was proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

Michael James - Some people say body language means nothing but of course it does! Also, if I was accused of a murder I didn't commit, I wouldn't be sitting back all blase about the whole thing...he acts like this is no big deal...geesh!
@@isabellind1292 there have been studies into this and body language actually means far less than everybody seems to think it does. It's really a case by case basis. Not every human being has a cookie cutter brain, and thus, two humans can react completely oppositely when presented with the same situation. Similarly, mannerisms and other body language varies from person to person. You can never truly know what someone's body language means unless you know that person quite well. In other words, you wouldn't be able to tell if someone was lying to you or not with absolute certainty on your first meeting. It's ridiculous to assume you could, but media and shows like "Lie to me" and even police training tells you that you can read minds just by watching someone's eyes or... the way they nod!
@@J_Lynn I understand what you're saying. I wouldn't base someone's guilt by the way they nod their head but this man's entire demeanor despite the serious allegations levelled against him spoke volumes to me.
And speaking in general about body language, there are times where I believe it says a lot about a person as in the case when someone is trying to project they're crying when there's not one single tear. That is a dead giveaway they are being deceitful.
Sometimes the lack of contraction use can be an admittance of guilt, too. "Did not" instead of "didn't".
@erik iverson Hardly could it be used as evidence. I was speaking on a more practical and personal application. If a person is quick to say they "did not" do something, they likely did, to some degree, do that thing that they're denying they did. They're subconsciously breaking their natural pattern of speech.

@@deezelkane Also, if you think it's scary to be an American, google Japanese police interrogations. They can hold you for as long as they want and pepper you with questions for DAYS on end until the suspects finally crack and confess to crimes they didn't commit just to end the torture.

It’s not how it works in courts, but cops don’t have to follow that same rule. They can lie and try to goad who they’re interrogating in to talking to say something accidentally incriminating. She was hoping he would be rattled enough to make up some lie.
@@jonpray5509 In this case it seems that's how it worked in court too. If the video is an accurate representation of the case they had nowhere near enough evidence to warrant a guilty verdict. If the best evidence the prosecution has is essentially "he might have done it and we can't think of anyone else", that should be enough to cause reasonable doubt.
It's literally impossible to prove the negative, and that's what that cop wanted. Crazy.

I’d vote not guilty even though he probably did it. Our justice system should not allow convictions with only tenuous circumstantial evidence...
Now if the cops just watched him and busted him for something else so be it
You do realize you're watching a summary, not sitting on a jury and hearing ALL the evidence properly presented.
Clearly, had you been on the jury, you would have been presented some compelling connection, which combined with the sniffer dog trailing right up to his door. and 6 other “coincidences which went beyond doubt to the panel. You were not there, so you wouldn’t know the totality that was obviously present..

The fact that she met up with her first husband after years and something sparked between them once again, only for her to get killed right after the picnic made this story even more tragic than it already is 😭
