Never leave a friend behind. How many of these stories start with friends going off and leaving someone on their own? I don't care the gender, keep an eye out for each other and don't leave someone behind.

This story just brings me to tears because I can picture how she was feeling that night. She was tired, it was loud, she had banged her nose and it was bleeding. I bet she wasn't warm in her costume she worked so hard on. The night that she was so excited for was going so poorly and she just wanted to go home to her family and crawl in her bed. I've had those nights. She thought a nice guy was going to get her to her home. She just wanted to go home. I feel heartbroken.

This makes me realize how stupid I was when I was younger. I grew up in a small town, everyone knew each other. A couple of my guy friends would have a party at their house out in the boonies every year. I was in my mid 20's in the late 90's when I went to this party with one of my friends and her boyfriend and they left without me and didn't tell me. It was getting later and later and almost all the people I knew had already left but I was really hoping that someone was going back into town but there wasn't. I literally started walking home. We're talking an old country road and I was at least 10 miles from home. This is before everyone had cell phones. Especially in a small town no one had one. I had probably got about half a mile away from the party when a car with 3 guys my age pulled up and asked me what I was doing walking down the road alone in the dark. By the way they were not from my town. They were from the next town over and I had never met them before. I told them why and they said we are not going to let you walk home. They said it's too late and too dangerous. I said I realized that but I didn't really have an alternative. They said we will take you home. I protested because I was scared I didn't know who they were. They said we promise we are not going to hurt you. Other cars had already passed and not stopped. Reluctantly I got in the car and luckily they were complete gentlemen and drove me straight home. I thanked them profusely and they said they could not in good conscience drive all the way home not knowing if I made it home safely. I thank God that they were honest good hearted guys.

The victim had plenty of options available to get herself home safe (call mom, family member or friend, call uber, call taxi). It was HER responsibility to take of herself and she failed to do so. My mom did this for me when I was 16 and it saved me a real bad night. There were a bunch of teens drinking, which I didn’t really have a problem with, but I didn’t drink that night cause the vibes were really weird, people were going wild. Nobody there was older than maybe 20. My ride drank and decided they were gonna spend the night (best way to handle a bad choice I guess), so I called my mom to pick me up at around 2 am. At 4 am, someone at the party had to have an ambulance come, and the cops came as well. A bunch of folks got in big trouble, and a kid had to have their stomach pumped. Thanks for doing this for your kids, even if they never need it. If I didn’t have that out, that night could have gone very differently for me.

@@tonyhawk6934 can I get some proof besides a bad movie plot? I'd like to know how you knew you were drugged. I'd also like to know how you stayed alert enough to remember what happened after if you were, in fact, drugged. More to the point, this isn't information you just toss out in a comment section. So either you're lying or it didn't occur the way you presented it entirely.
Furthermore, isn't it odd that just one person recognized you if it's a small village (like you said it was)? You'd think more people would recognize you. And if this person who recognized you knew your grandpa well enough to have his number and call him, surely they'd have permission to take you home. Just speculating here but I smell horse manure.

When I was in junior high, my best friend and I were messing around at the graveyard and accidentally stayed too late. On the way home, about six teenagers were blocking the road drinking and being rambunctious. Somehow we knew it was a bad situation so we went to a nearby barn and found a phone inside. I KNEW my dad would kill me but there was no way I was gonna ride my bike down that road. He came and got us. I got a whooping and he was so angry I wasn’t home before the streetlights came on but I didn’t care. Point being, ALWAYS CALL YOUR PARENTS or any adult even if you know you’ll be in a lot of trouble for the party or drinking. ❤️🤟🏻

It's not just parents. My friends and I habe a rule that we leave our phones on until everyone was safely home. Well, one time, there was an issue with public transport and I couldn't go home. I texted them and I was directly welcomed to sleep over anywhere I wanted (I picked the closest one hahaha). I stay up until everyone drove/went safely home. My appartement is always open to any friend who needs a place to sleep, no matter if it's for an early flight or a night out on the town. I'd rather have they know they have a safe place to come to than not caring. If one of us goes on a date (Tinder or something) we send a screenshot of the person as well as the place we are meeting and expect a message to know if everything is all right. I don't care what they do, if I can make it a little more safe, I'll stay up !
My mom would leave her phone on as well, she would leave my bedroom door open before she went to bed. If she woke up and the door wasn't closed, she'd know I didn't make it back. I would also leave my shoes in the entrance to let her know ^^ If I couldn't get home, I'd text her the problem and were I was staying. She was very much a "be free and be young" mom with a side of "just let me know you are safe and sound". Also, I don't drink so that wasn't an issue at all ^^

I remember being so mad and annoyed at her every time she tried to call my cell phone to check on me and I always ignored it. I always thought she was trying to steal my freedom and joy away from me and control me whenever she tried to lay down the rules of trying to have me back home safe at a certain time. Now I feel like a shytehead for not answering her phone calls, especially after seeing this, and realizing how much pain I caused her for making her worry so much the way I did. >.< ugghh!! Rusty, it is sad, sad all the way around! As a woman who grew up going to lots of crazy parties back in the day, I only have my own experiences to draw from. My friends and I were your typical middle class suburban teens. Even at 14-18 years old, many parties, lots of alcohol, bonfires, definitely not hundreds of people, but perhaps not always the safest situations - we never lost track of each other and this was well before cell phones! Young people are a little different today - in general, and I'm well aware there are many exceptions. This story made my heart hurt because this young lady of 22 did nothing wrong and was definitely a victim of unfortunate and avoidable circumstances, from what I have gathered. Maybe she wasn't super close with the gal pals she came to the party with. I've seen countless other tragic stories with young women whose friends didn't seem to find it a big deal to head home not knowing where friend was - that is unfathomable to me!!

Further, Mike taught me, don't live in Canada, Florida, Texas, California, Australia, or Michigan. Don't keep large sums of money in the house, or be too pretty, too stupid, or naive. Don't trust the cops because they are the only ones who can help you, but not until after you die. You don't need to kill your adult children just because you want to move from Michigan to Texas (ahhh...two States in which not to live). Don't date people who are already married, the divorce will never come through. Don't marry someone if it's your second and anymore than their second, especially if any of their prior spouses died. Fix your own food, keep track of how much Anti-Freeze is in the garage, if it goes down, get the radiator fixed, and if that ain't it...call the police and hope they get there before they are investigating your death. High priced hookers is not an expensive fishing guide service, and tricking to pay a $6K a month mortgage in the mid-range of the Rockies is not a great idea just to keep up appearances and the illusion of a stable home life for your boys. Everyone you meet is a killer, they just might not get around to it in their lifetime. Be wary of your friends, especially when the power dynamic runs away from you. When a pack moves on, the Omega gets shed, don't be at the bottom of any group. If you go to a party, decide who is the "wing(wo)man" and who gets to look for a hook-up. Don't change the plan during the night. Exchange phone numbers with the meet cute and call the next day, The wingperson has a duty to stay sober and bring their drunk charge home alive and puking. Oh yeah, and if you have daddy issues, work it out with a counselor in group; don't date a guy twice your age because it makes you feel like you are getting back at dear old dad. Unless it is dad's best friend (eww - I went there), he's never going to know. Fold your tinfoil hat correctly just like Mimi Boo said, turn off the lights, get under the covers with your flashlight, and try to get some sleep.

For big parties there should be a comfortable place sectioned off for "lost people" with a sign. Saw this at an Iowa fair and thought what a great idea although it did look strange to see people being so relaxed behind a sign like that.

Whether you are guilty or innocent, as soon as the cops get in close and start saying 'you raped her, you killed her', the only word that should come out of your mouth should be Lawyer. No idea why anyone, again, innocent or guilty, would just keep talking. You arent talking your way out of anything at that point. Lawyer.
