Still happy with my first generation rx100. It's great.
I miss the features in new models. But man. No matter which one you pick, the rx100 never let you down.

Having a small tiny camera is definitely much easier to vlog with than a giant beast with a giant lens and a gorilla pod. However, the video quality of the RX100 feels like it belong in 2015, the early days of youtube vlogging. I'm surprised Sony hasn't improved this line yet.

I've taken care of my RX1000 IV but the only thing I reget a bit is not getting a screen protector.
I heard juggling it is very good for the camera.
Wow what a cool video! I gone through the IV, V and now have the VI and have loved them all. I actually kept the V because of some of the differences between the V and the VI. I'm going to have to visit New York some day. Looks really fun! Keep up the great work!

You do realize she is sponsored by Sony right? In other words she's going to say this camera is better than all the other ones by default tricking people like you to go out and buy it even though there are cameras the same price and even cheaper that are just as good such as the Canon G7X II.
the rx100 is one of a kind... it breaks barries in both photography n video shooting in a small package....

Better yet, buy the IV or 5A...used...don't buy "crazy expensive" VI or VII....they just don't add that much for the extra coins. I just purchasedt a really nice IV on Ebay for $435... Canons GX7 still doesn't have evf (electronic viewfinders) which are almost required on outdoor bright sunny days, and new it is $700 on sale !!
That little camera is really impressive, I didn’t think something that small would be able to get such high resolution or a fairly crazy FPS. Keep up the great work! And gotta say, love watching your videos, I keep checking for more even though you covered that your not going to do daily vlogs. xD :)

I have the camera and I love it, there are a few things that I dislike (flip screen blocks information, stereo recording, to name a few) but is great overall
Great video! Like many here, I also got the RX100 V recently because of you, Sara! Found you on Skillshare and now one of your avid YT viewers. Please do more tutorials on vlogging and using this camera's features
I have the mk3 and even it is amazinggggggg. About exposure compensation; one’s gotta be careful with it when using it to get better expose eg. on cloudy days. The image will have blown out spots quite easily, even though it won’t seem like it on the camera’s own screen at first. Learned this the hard way, unfortunately. Always better to slightly underexpose, because blown out = lost data for that part of the image.

I bought the RX100 V after I saw your first review (and Jared Polin's real world review) and loved it. The quality was stellar. But I ended up ditching it for the HX-90V, because I needed zoom capabilities in a small body camera badly. Hopefully Sony one day will update the HX line.

This just made up my mind getting this camera over the Canon G7X II. I'm normally a Canon user, but I want something different. I like how neutral it looks so there ia good range and room for color grading later :) Thanks Sara
Saving up for this one right now! Looking forward to getting it! I vlog about my family, try to retain those memories. I have a pretty good DSLR setup right now but, my wife being home most of the time, doesn't want to use the DSLR cause it is so big. Hopefully the smaller form factor but excellent quality will be a win win for my family. Plus, that slow motion, gotta have it!
Any career I’ve had now (on my second after becoming disabled) it did not matter what tools you had at your disposal if you had the drive, passion, and commitment you’d find a way to make it happen.
When I started at 23 welding, metal working and building muscle cars and street rods for a living I started with nothing but a few crappy tools from harbor freight (it’s like a Walmart for tools lol) and I built a business and life. While every mechanic and fellow fabricator around me had 20,000 dollar tool boxes and were in debt I was out doing them all and getting paid more while using 150 bucks worth of tools they made fun of me for but I ended up with my own shop in just a few years while they still work for the man haha.
When I was thirty I fell ill with a genetic autoimmune disease and lost everything. I spent many years homeless and lived for two years in isolation in an old rv in a commercial storage garage with no plumbing or other utilities. While in that garage I began making content.
I became vegan after getting sick because I had felt real and crushing pain and couldn’t pass that on to another being anymore. When I almost died December of 2016 I decided I would start the first vegan news channel in existence.
I started with a broken android phone and a South Korean phone app for video editing. Vegan news on UA-cam quickly shifted to Facebook as the primary platform. In a year I had 20,000 subs on fb and it wasn’t easy at all.
I upgraded last summer to a Canon camcorder because for 300 plus bucks I could get a camera with the same censor as some of their more expensive camera bodies costing four or five times more.
Moral of the story is if you want it you’ll get it but it takes work and equipment is not a factor. Hey Sony if ya read this I would’ve rather had gotten your camera but they were and still are beyond my reach so if you wanna help a compassionate vegan out HMU lol

Thanks to you Sara I bought a Sony RX100 V and took it to Jordan. I specifically wanted to photograph Petra at Night!!! The photos came out so sick!!! I'd go back to just for this event. The candles at the base of the Treasury and the color in stone came out exquisitely. I highly recommend a trip to Petra and the Treasury if you haven't traveled there yet.
I was using an RX100 MI up unti last year and I loved it. Btw I bought about three knockoff batteries and I must've gotten a good batch bc they all worked well.

I'm up to 3 different cameras that I use... I make videos of flying my paramotor, and the things around it. Soon I'll incorporate camping (in a camper trailer)... Love seeing tips, seeing what other people do. I only do it for fun, so I feel no pressure to stress about anything. I'm just having fun!

Thanks for the great tips on the RX100 V. It seems the microphone is the real issue with this camera. Any tips on improving audio? Is an external audio rig the best bet?
I'm still using the RX100 III and still love it! Slow motion is nice...but I opted for the III instead of IV or V because of the batter battery life. :)

As a new owner of the RX100 and the A6000 with a 35mm Prime, I find the RX now becoming my go to travel camera. I normally only use for photos but have done a few videos, but really struggle getting the video of the camera. What software are you using thanks
Hey again a great video! What the guy was saying is right: small camera means the story is the thing. As you indicated like a phone it goes almost unnoticed too. I even got a quick still of the inside of our local court yesterday (no I wasn't on trial but being available for jury duty!). I am sure my Nikon D5100 would have got more attention from security on enering the building and the policeman sitting in the courtroom! Send Sony my way and I'll show them what an excellent little Handycam the CX190 actually is! Maybe they'll sponsor me for an upgrade!! ;-)

Just bought one (mark 5) for $190 plus tax. Walked into a pawn shop to look at their $2 BluRays and saw a RX100 in their glass cabinet for $300. Offered $150 and got it for $210 out the door. Sold my Mark 1 to my Dad for $100 and he is loving it. Glad to finally have a single camera to take with me. Selling my Panasonic 4k camcorder, Nikon D3200. Will only have a Sony RX10M3 and RX100M5 now.

Hello! Did Sony give you some hints on when are they going to launch rx100 mark 6? I don’t think is going to be this year as many youtubers still promoting the mark 5 like you. What do you think? I want to buy this camera but I will be very angry if I buy it and soon after the mark 6 comes out to the market
SRXJ - Sony owners learn to do this to avoid burning their hands from the 15 minute overheating issue - Its the Sony issued a workaround - its call the SRXJ (Sony RX Juggle) Rather than fix the heat sink issue it helps users keep warm in New York during winter and solves the overheating issue

Cool vlog... Like the tips on starting small cause "yeah!" it's a little nervous inducing carrying a larger camera around strangers. Also - talking to your camera. Still feels weird. Lol!

I recently destroyed my Sony RX10-2, which had similar features. I also loved the slow motion but it was limited to the length of clips it could save. Is there a limit to the length of slow motion clips you can capture on this model?

It's true, that little camera is very nice, and all most need for vlogging. If $ is tight, get the Canon G7XII, it's another great little camera.

I bought RX100v for vlogs but it's my go to for stills too now unless I'm on a proper shoot. Even then often a RX100v shot gets used.

The RX100 does seem to be a pretty awesome camera. I got a laugh from the fact that the first shot after the Sony shout out was you using a Pentax to take a photo.
What are your thoughts, buy the Sony RX 100V or go for the Sony RX 100VI that is available June 7. 2018?

Ny Model IV eats batteries during video like you would not believe. Either carry 4 knockoffs or two Sonys bought at an electronics brick and mortar ( Best Buy, local camera store...etc..) Sony does last almost twice in real life.
Not many people out there would juggle a few grand worth of cameras for a vlog haha
@sara, so I saw this and the 5 things video now. You recommend original sony batteries -- cool. What about chargers? Sony doesn't appear to make a multi-battery charger. Will a 3rd party batt charger work? Do you know if there are sony multi battery chargers, or do I just need to get several single chargers?

I just got my Sony RX100 V and when I watch my videos back I can hear a knocking in them when I move. I stopped filming and then even turned the camera off and I can hear this knocking when it shakes, even very mildly moving it can have this knocking sound. How do you get around this?!?
I dont really care for these camera thing videos but I still liked it because.... well its SARA!!

Hi, just got mine two days ago and I've noticed something that is bugging me.. When you turn on the camera, there is a noise (like the one a small fan would make) that you can hear coming from the lens. You have to put the camera really close to the ear to notice it.. might it be digital noise? stabilisation motors?
Question: At 7:50 in this video Cody Jensen was giving a tip while walking, were you using the RX100 V in that clip? It seemed to have that over exposure issue that you had mentioned in your first review of this camera. Thanks for the informative and fun vlogs.
But when you are vlogging, how can you see yourself? Are you using an external monitor?
