- At one point in belt production, both ends need to be connected. This is what we call a belt joint. Generally, we separate between two different belt joints: the butt joint and the overlap joint. For an “overlap joint”, the grit is taken off down to the backing on one end, while the other one is scuffed and both are glued together. When creating a “butt joint”, both ends are scuffed, glue is applied and splicing tape is used to put both ends together. In today’s video, we are showing you the most popular belt joints within these categories that you can find in KLINGSPOR’s product range.

"Butt joint" - ha ha hee hee ! ! !
i live in the UK and want to purchase a roll of no 4 high strength tape, can you help me with my search please
What is the shell life of tape joints?
👍👍👍
Good stuff, why the fancy joint for the glass industry?? thanks.
The zig-zag of that joint allows for more surface area in the joint and hat makes it stronger. Also, it is less likely to catch on the sharp edge of a glass piece (compared to the No. 4 joint that has a larger flat area for the glass to catch). You can run the No. 3 joint in both directions, so you get more life out of such a belt than of the ones with the tape on the back.
Which tape used for number 1 & number 4 butt splice method joint ??
It's a special industrial tape.
