Starscream may have had a love-hate feelings for Megatron so she null-rayed Nightbird.

That line implying that the reason G1 Megatron keeps Starscream around despite backstabbing him constantly, is because none of the other Decepticons (until Nightbird) were hot enough to take Starscream's place.

Ninjas are not supposed to fight fair, they're supposed to be stealthy and more of assassins rather than warriors, the warrior part depends of the individual ninja. If anything Starscream beat the ninja at her own game.
Honestly I'm watching this and my only thought is HOW IS THIS CHARACTER NOT MORE POPULAR!? The first female Transformer (sorta). The first Cyber Ninja. A potential love interest for Megatron. She's got a lot going for her! How has more not been done with this character?
One word: female.
Okey that what probably happened was even dumber thanks to the gendered market they maybe got afraid to "steal" sales from their girl toys for having a female character on their boy series, just don't think more than 2 seconds on this excuse and it makes sense.

@@TheDoomBlueShell I mean yeah that's definitely true for the 80's during the original series, but look how many prominent female transformers we've had since the late 90s and 2000s. Arcee, Black Arachnea, hell Windblade is sort of the personification of the community's desire for more fembots. I'm just surprised that a character with this much potential who also happens to be something of an origin story for 3 reoccurring concepts in the series got left behind

Hey you know what be really cool, if in a future transformers movie, the human take Shatter & dropkick's remains, and end up creating Nightbird, but through out the movie fragments of the 2 deception personalities being to emerge corrupting her, and like the original she goes rogue and joins the decepticons having a distinct hatred for Bumblebee

I would imagine it's about as one-sided as Starcreams rivalry with Shockwave in Transformers Prime, Nightbird is just doing her job while Starscream is imagining slights against him like a mean girl in high school.

Shame they never did more with her in the series.
Hasbro never wanted female robots back in the day. Even Arcee didn't get a toy until 2014 (not counting repaints).
TwistedGaming918 there was a G1 Arcee prototype. It looked horrible, even for the time.
@@holden_7597 There was also a repaint of Chromedome to represent Arcee and Daniel in The Rebirth, which also didn't happen.
@@twistedgaming9185 In all fairness a female frame (as well as other agility type Cybertronian frames) would seem as a rarity since the war would require more bulk like physique to combat one and another with it being more on height than slimness. Then there's the whole reality bit on Cybertronian reproduction making it questionable of the usage of a female form since there is no breeding (unless if there's a comic explaining it since there have been forms of media showing parallels to that of mammals with the mechanical aliens). And since this was a show men't for boys at the time (but it's not like it was prevented for a girl to watch, just look at MLP's fan base) it focused on war as it's big thing like Gundam (since Transformers designs/toys were made in japan) and a Brotherhood type thing with a bit of silliness with each episode. But today is today and we can make our own stories with what's already made (Just as long as it doesn't go into Kissplayer territory, don't look it up) and how the female frame is woven back into modern Cybertronian time (since the LORE does say that one of the 13 primes was the first Female Cybertronian, Chris has a video about that).
That is pretty much the best summary of the 1980's cartoon
Nightbird I remember her. Her first and only episode appearance "Enter the Nightbird" is actually the fourth G1 episode I seen (the others are the original three part pilot episode).
-I remember hearing that Bumblebee director Tarvis Knight loosely base Shatter from Nightbird. Cool fact.
-I honestly believe that she could have fit in nicely in TF4, as the many KSI drones under the control of Galvatron. Either as her own self like Stinger, as many ninja drones like in the comics, or both.
-TF: Siege brought us Nightbird, and she's cool.
It amazes me that a character named "Nightbird" was given a ground vehicle alt. That makes ZERO sense...
The perfect alt for her is the old F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter jet.
Right? Youd expect an owl or a stealth helicopter. . .

A unforgettable character. As a child i always hope that night bird would escape to return for a few more episodes back in the day. Still one of my favorite characters thank you Chris.

A stealth aircraft would be good too. Fits the “Ninja” theme. Plus making her fly would have Starscream in even more panic because he fears she’ll replace him as commander of the Seekers or something
Talking about obscure characters, I dont even remember have seen the episode where she appeared when I was a kid, I would love to see her in a new incarnation in any show, but hope she be a real Cybertronian and not a human creation, I like more that angle.
I remember it very fondly because she was in it and how strong she was. The end of the epusode made me think she would come back
It's good that the popularity of Nightbird has endured these long years, she's a good character to have around. But apart from that I'd say she's long overdue for a comeback in animation form, hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.

It could have been an interesting story for the IDW story arcs if the Earth Defence Force had created their own robotic defences akin to Cybertronians following the Decepticon invasion years prior and codenamed it 'Nightbird'. Galvatron and his Decepticons could have learned of this and reprogrammed the robots to turn on the humans, forcing the Autobots to endanger their own lives in trying to defend those who hate them.
After a call for reinforcements to Cybertron, Windblade could have informed the real Nightbird from her homeworld about these imposters with her name and she could have showed up to lend a hand against the imposters.
Doubt it would have fully worked though.

Honestly, given that Nightbird is both a Deception and ninja, I hope someday we get to see her and Drift (the Autobot's resident samurai) clash swords sometime in the future.

When I was a kid, I never understood why they made Nightbird a one-off character, never to be seen or heard from again in the cartoon. I mean she had so much potential for further episodes.

Looking back, it's weird how Optimus had to have ninjas explained to him, but then later series show Cybertronian ninjas (e.g., Six Shot). I guess Prime just wasn't aware of them.

Imagine if in age of extinction, instead of K.S.I. Turning Megatron into Galvatron they turned him into Nightbird, because in G1 she was a man-made giant robot
Imagine if Nightbird wasn't written out permanently and actually became an official Decepticon in the original cartoon. She would've been Megatron's go-to 'Con for anything involving stealth and espionage, incapable of speech to both mimic the ninja stereotype "vow of silence" and make any attempt at interrogation useless. She could even link up remotely with Soundwave to relay information directly to him, who would then inform Megatron. She could've had scenes where she went toe-to-toe against Arcee.
Starscream would definitely still be extremely jealous and attempt to take her out at certain times, but Nightbird would take that as a training exercise, never informing others about it, as it would take away the challenge she seeks to improve her own abilities.
As for a vehicle mode, I would've gone for a stealth submarine, giving Seaspray a rival on the ocean and further going with the ninja theme of hiding underwater.
Tell me, would you have liked Nightbird and Megatron to have a love-like relationship?

i included Nightbird in my own Transformers story, where she is a loyal servant of Megatron, who transformers into a stealth jet & actually removed her voice box on purpose, to be even more silent
A stealth jet is a good fit for her, name wise and character wise. Wouldn't mind seeing a transformer toy of her like that

Id love to see night bird appear as a recurring character in a cartoon or comic series. In my head canon she has a snakeyes/stormshadow style rivalry with drift.
I hope the include her in the last Transformers movie, Rise of the Beasts. Because that'll be so cool.

One of my absolute favourite characters, I was so excited when she made her debut in G1, since the episode implied she would return, though she never did... I would love to see her in more media, perhaps the Netflix series will feature her!

I’d like her to become a mercenary like devcon and lockdown. Maybe they could all be a part of a team of mercenaries together
She was one of my favorite characters despite having only 1 episode. I could see her being a subordinate/partner to Soundwave given her infiltration/assassination specialty and him being the Decepticon's spymaster/communication officer. I could also see her as a bounty hunter or mercenary in a later incarnation.
I can't wait to see Nightbird in transformers rise of the beasts I wander what she can do.
In 2023, Nightbird made the incredible jump to the Silver Screen in the Live Action Film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. A Terrorcon Servant of Unicron, this version of Nightbird along with her Terrorcon Partners Battletrap and Scourge were tasked with finding the Transwarp Key to allow their Master to come to Earth so he could consume the Planet. Unfortunately, Nightbird met her end when she was killed by Bumblebee in the final battle of the film.

Starscream got jealous when Megatron said this. Here are my thoughts on that.
1.Megatron had some lust toward Nightbird.
2.Starscream could have some homosexual tendencies because of his jealousy.

Starscream above all craves power and control. His jealousy stems from his number 2 spot being taken away from him.

He's famously effeminate (to the point other TF series have made jokes about it) and his conduct in "Enter the Nightbird" has been viewed through this lens ever since people started shipping Megatron and Nightbird.
When we watched Transformers as kids. The last thing we cared about was who was the "gay" character and who was having sex.

I wonder now if Arcee was made to counter Nightbird seeing how Arcee never had an orgin story in the cartoon. They both almost share the same body type. Would've been cool if Megatron did somehow not only get Nightbird back, but took a page out of Street Fighter's M. Bison's book and made "Dolls" of his own. An elite assassian squad based off Nightbird.

I want to see this. It's a shame that she was only in that one episode. Her concept was so cool, a kunoichi ninja transformer! She could've been used for stealthy infiltration type missions, which could've made for some interesting stories.

I do admit, that as a kid, I was quite taken with Nightbird. And.not just because she was a ninja -- though that definitely was a selling point for me -- but because she was for all intents and purposes, a female Decepticon. Even after she was captured, supposedly reprogrammed and put into stasis, it was clear that she was still conscious and none too happy. But I never dreamed that she'd ever get a toy. I mean if Hasbro wouldn't make a toy of Arcee, what chance did Nightbird have? But to now have two is amazing. Now if only she'd return as an actual character in the comics or a cartoon.

I loved NB back in G1 and was always disappointed she didn't reappear. Good to see she at least got some traction.

So her most notable impact in recent years goes from inspiring the design of a live-action film villain to actually being in a film herself. Sometimes you wonder if these videos were made slightly too early.

I really didn't follow transformers since they discontinued the series before I got to high school so of course I wasn't into Beast Wars and other cartoons after high school.....but I always vision that someone would remake the 80s series with all the transformers from both generations..Megatron and Galvatron both leading the Decepticons and always picturing Nightbird being a main character as a Decepticon...transforming into a ninja motorcycle or whatever motorcycle that was hot at the time
