Here's an in-depth ground game tutorial, with an analysis on one of the current 1v1 greats, Mawkzy. Whilst catches/dribbles/flicks are a basic idea and some of the first mechanics you learn, there's a huge difference between what the top pros do, and even Ranks #51-100. The elite players really do have a different grasp of the fundamentals.
This was top of mind since I put out the "1s 'Til I Lose" video out on Thursday, and there was a lot of great discussion on 1v1 attacking. Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer!

You are low key the most influential RL educational content creator. Keep doing what you are doing. Every time a fresh champ player ask for advice I always tell them "advanced aerial routine, ultimate defense, long and air roll shots, that's all you need at your level".
I love the way you're showing pro gameplay at the beginning of these tutorials, it really makes it easier to picture the usefulness of most mechanics, since they are so consistent at it
The higher i get up in rank the more valuable your videos become. Thank you!
In kevpert we trust 😭❤️❤️
Your camera settings are wild
a real ground play main
I've been asking for help and getting tips and replay reviews all over and never really improved much and stayed at diamond 3 div 4 for months. Watched some of your videos lately on 2s defending, 1s and overall car control and I finally hit champ and also won a 2s champ tourney. You're very underrated and thanks for sharing the knowledge
Ah that's awesome! I remember my first game hitting Champion back in the day, my heart was thumping lol.
Keep up the grind, and you'll hit Champ 3 soon enough 💪
You do a great job putting me in the mindset of someone as good as you, I only have 100 hours but I feel like I’m learning and playing at an accelerated rate while watching your breakdowns
Really been loving these lately Kev, my mechanics have been mostly the same for like 3 years now and the practice methods you're showing have been exactly what I need to push past the plateau I've been at for so long
Banger. I love that your focusing on ground play too. Defo gonna give this a try. Now I’d love a shot for basic shooting because I’m absolutely terrible at that. I only practice dribbles and flicks, so somehow I’m better at those things than basic shooting
Ooh I already have packs made for that. I might do that next 🤔
@@Kevpert would love that. You really have a knack for seeing how training can actually accelerate your improvement of skills. I default to training things that I’m already very comfortable with, and I don’t even realize that’s a mistake
Thank god i finally found this video. I was watching the flakes no mechanics series and learned that i should stopp booming and take more control. The problem is that my groundplay arsenal is kinda non existant and i have no idea how to take advantage of possession. This is exactly the video i needed. Of course it has to come from the legend himself again!
I love how the ground play here looks infinitely more impressive than a double tap. As a beginner the aerial stuff is flashy but I really feel like this is where high level play actually is most of the time
You do fundamental things many, many times a game. You don't double tap that often. Which is better to learn?
couldnt agree more
I worked on your training plan and I really improved my Mechanics and even ranked up from c1 to c3 and im very thankful. I wish you had patreon so WE can support you back
It’s crazy how skilled at coaching he is
That is awesome! I'm really happy to hear that you've ranked up so fast.
And just leaving comments and supporting the videos is more than enough. The channel's finally growing again, so I'm excited!
remember if ur struggling with glue soft touches when dribbling remember to catch using the hood at the front of your car, catching it in the middle just bounces it off your curvacious luscious car. Good Vid and Pac, so catch like pervertbut don't catch him
Thanks for putting out these tutorials!
That was fast! You're most welcome ♥
Love these videos man and Flakes is awesome, but I think King Ranny definitely deserves a shout out too if we're talking about drift catches
King Ranny is definitely the GOAT of the powerslide catch. I had the pleasure of hanging out with him at Season 4 RLCS worlds back in the day - great guy!
You're the best man. This is exactly what I needed. I get so tilted everytime I miss open nets because of not catching or flicking the ball correctly. Thanks
We all appreciate you’re videos so heavy man. You’ve got a great following, keep it up!
Aye was waiting on the vid today. Preciate u staying consistent
It's a grind, but I definitely have a lot of fun doing it. Making up for lost time!
What I still don't understand is the counter movement you need to perfectly respond to a ball touch without allowing it to throw your car off
Yoooo! Didn't know you made UA-cam videos, but def enjoy your training packs! Hope you're well man, and keep up the great work!
Got these all saved for the next time I have a little time to grind rocket league
no way ur back! i used to watch ur videos from 6 years back!
super good timing as im looking to main 1s next season im c3 in 2s hopfully a season of ones will help me push up into gc and higher grate video❤❤
nice to see the content grind
The GOAT is consistently uploading ❤
ty man! been looking for something like this
Hey kevpert, do you need to let go of ur accelerator when wanting to get a soft touch ?
In my experience getting a dog touch almost always comes down to cushioning the ball, or kinda matching your car spreed with the ball. The words I’m saying right now aren’t exactly right, but basically boost/accelerate/boost+accelerate all depends on the speed of the ball, and it’s vertical and lateral angle
If you're moving with the ball, match speed. If the ball is coming towards you, find angles or hit the brakes/let go of gas to cushion the ball. You can even hold powerslide at times. Just play around with it and I'm sure you'll get a good feel for it.
@@Kevpert Alright ty ur the goat
@@ToriKo_ thank you bro
Hey Kev! Glad you're back on YT. Thanks a bunch for the uploads! Are you interested in doing 1 on 1 coaching or anything like that? I have a buddy that said you did a replay review for him recently and I'd love to pick your brain as well! I just got back into RL after a long break and would love tips on breaking into higher ranks as well, as keeping a good mental when playing.
Hey Jordan, shoot me a Twitter DM after the RLCS world championships wrap up. I don't do much individual coaching right now since I'm busy doing tactcial work for a pro team.
Super informative, thank you!
A question not topic related. I often feel like the car moves slow when i start playing Rocket League, it then gets better the further the day has gone by. I also feel like I often to random stuff instead of executing the mechanic like i should. For the first part, do you by chance know any cause or counter to that weird feeling? And for the second part, I think this may be because i yet don't have the muscle memory for these mechanics right?
Good video,interesting camera settings..
the ball on the actual training pack is faster than the ball shown here, making the pack unplayable because we cant play it like you demonstrated
on the second one the ball hits the wall begfore i can even get to it and im hitting boost the whole time and still cant make it to the ball i dont understand i did the binds and says there working so i dont know why im having issues even reaching the ball
the ball is faster on the actual training pack than what is shown here, I'm playing it too and I'm noticing the ball is a lot slower on his screen compared to mine
Amazing content once again!
The goat pulled thru
They binds you copied into the binds folder in the video, are different then the ones in the description! Have they been updated? Also does holding airroll prevent recoil? When making contact with the ball in shot 1 for example... because I only have airroll left/right bound and I'm getting ball slapped all over the place!?
I love you thank you
The ball looks so forward on his car during his quick flicks. It doesn’t look like it should work. Maybe it’s his super far camera angle. 🤷🏼♂️
Goated
How do u do the dash on the ground to go left or right I have no clue the control ur suppose to do
just spent an hour trying to get the bindings to work, has this been changed at all ? following to a T but simply not working. Cheers
Also would love to see an update on your gameplay since you released your training routine almost a year ago!
Hmm, haven't had any feedback suggesting that it's not working for anyone else. If everything is set up, you should see the bindings populate in F2 -> Bindings. If not, you have a problem with the text file.
Make sure you have F2 -> Custom Training -> Enable Custom Training Variance checked.
I've been thinking about it, since the RLCS season for us is over, been mulling over some video ideas. I've been grinding my mechs for over a year now and they've come a long way...
@@Kevpert forgot to update on this but all sorted - love your work mate. I would love to see your progress !!!
struggling with a lot of these honestly but giving it a go thanks for these! random question, once we hit f7 or otherwise, how do we reset it back to the defaults if doing a different pack ?
Ah, hit F2 -> Custom Training. Uncheck enable custom training variance, and set boost to -1.
@@Kevpert Thanks!
Well this training pack establishes how bad I am. gg
@kevpert can you tell me how to get Bakkes mod back to normal after you change the file, without reinstalling?
Easy - just go to F2 -> Custom Training -> Turn off Custom Training Variance + change the boost to -1
@kevpert how do i reset my custom training settings after using the "F7" preset?
Just go to F2, turn off enable custom training variance, and set boost limit to -1
@@Kevpert thank you!! great content btw
5:59
I can maybe hit these 1/20 times lol
you have the wierdest settings i've ever even seen
Um, isn't a tutorial supposed to include instructions on how to do the things the creator is discussing? This is just a "here are things that work" video
Did you watch the video ?
You didn’t watch the video did you
He’s kinda right tho. Kevpert doesn’t really go much into detail on how to execute his moves. He explains what to do and not how to do it. In the end you just have to study his moves in super slow mo and you can find out what he does but it would be a lot easier if he just highlighted the important details more
Isn’t “how to do it” the same thing as “what to do”
@totallykukri1427 no. I can tell you that in the evening you need to make dinner but that's not the same as how to make dinner. This video has a lot of "here is where you want to be or where you should be in situations" but the video shows high-level mechanics without saying how to do those things. Everything i have been taught is "learn the basics of the game such as positioning and rotations before you learn the high level mechanics" but this video assumes you already know the mechanics before you learn the basics.
bro doesn't know what tutorial means
Way too slow paced
