    Since you can’t trust the power that comes out of the wall I have started using a diesel generator to generate power for my high resolving system. The difference is immense; string instruments are more spatial, drums show more timbre and the bells in the beginning of ACDCs Hells Bells gives me goose bumps. I will never use normal wall power again

    If the same materials in the units make a difference, then of course outside it will also. That is your cable explanation. Personally I would never buy something as cheap as a circa 400 USD power cable, because that means that it only costs maximum 100 USD to make. And if you look into good plugs, you will find out that they usually cost around 250-500USD alone.
    Itś very easy to understand: the higher level a system you have, the more reactive it is, the more you can hear these types of things.
    I have had many Supra cables throughout the years and they are fine at the lowest levels, but come nowhere near decent to really good cables, as the price also indicates.
    Supra sound very plastic like/muted compared to just decent cables, the sound to me is very suspicious and instruments are totally fake. Everything just sounds very generic, but yes they are quite a step above the most basic ones and fine for the price. Same can be said with Tellurium which are again a noticeble step above Supra, it doesn´t take an explanation to figure this out, they just have more quality to the sound reflecting better materials; that simple.
    Itś really very simple; you get the best purity of metals/materials and you make a unique design that on top of that improves the sound, and then you upgrade the system together with the cables slowly.
    Everything that is part of the signal can be heard to some degree.
    That is the game of HiFi. Some play it and others don´t. If you criticize it, then at least try it first.

    In certain cases "audiophile" power cable might makes minor differences (for better or worse) to the sound. However, when pairing the "right" (or wrong) power cable in the "right" place will absolutely make (or break) an audio system... I too was a convert from who used to be a big time skeptic over the years.

    Given the relative length of pedestrian power wiring that leads up to the wall power outlet, it seems unlikely that a short length of final lead would result in an audible difference unless perhaps it reduces (i.e. via superior shielding) a high EMI exposure along its length. It would be interesting to see if the perceived improvement is impacted by the insertion of an adequately filtered power conditioner, which if so, would be far more cost effective than multiple hugely expensive cables. This is a situation whereby identical setups may give different results depending upon the local EMI environment, which would predictably create heated debates.

    Hi, don't know if someone already said this, but a power cable is not the end of the powerlines trough the walls etc, it's in the middle. It completes a circuit. Nice review, thanks. But I'll stick with my full Lorad SPC loom (from breaker box trough the walls, to my equipement is all Lorad SPC).

    This matches my experience with power cables as well, being the owner of many Supra cables. A couple months ago I made a DIY power cable using Furutech FI-48 connectors and Oyaide Tunami V2 wire for my power strip. Before the Oyaide wire arrived I was using the Furutech connectors with Supra Lorad 2.5 SPC wire. Changing the wire to Oyaide made a huge difference, like blowing open the soundstage and increasing the resolution. So unfortunately you get what you pay for, even with power cables. Supra are better than stock cables, and cables 2x-4x more expensive than Supra provide a meaningful upgrade. Whether it's worth it will depend on how much you've already spent on the system. I've seen all the passionate arguments for why power cables shouldn't matter, but in practice the difference is clear.

    I just got my 2nd Tubulus Libentus, this one was for my Bifrost 2/64, the first was for my Jotunheim 2. I tested all my favourite songs, I usually test for better bass as I'm a bit of a bass head. I noticed kicks are more punchy, tighter and cleaner, like they are hitting harder and deeper, making my Radiance sound absolutely perfect and less muddy than before. Soundstage sounds a bit wider with some parts definitely sounding like they are further away than before, while I'm hearing sounds moving around more. I'm not noticing the harshness with snares anymore, but in some cases on my own tracks I've mixed with FL Studio that some hihats sound more harsh instead, but overall I think it's a better trade off to my ears.
    Overall I think it sounds noticeably better, all the songs I tested where I noticed a difference (which was most) they sound better to me, and the one game I played, I was noticing audio details I don't remember ever hearing. Say what you want, whether it's placebo still and maybe it's just me misremembering things, but it's sounds like it's changed far too much for me to be misremembering things. I wasn't home for 3 days and when I came back my cable arrived, so I was going off memory from 3 days before.

      No one is saying we listen to 50 or 60Hz AC. We also don't listen to the bits transmitted by a USB cable, but galvanically isolating the USB connection improves the sound by isolating noise. If the mains cable is helping to isolate noise (as just one example) then it would help prevent the noise getting into the overall circuit.

    I was a *longtime* skeptic about AC power cables making any difference in sound quality. I bought 5 different AC cables to compare to generic; and none of them cost more than $100US. To my total surprise, not only did the two best cables sound (a *lot*) better, but the slightly less expensive one was by far my favorite. Both were from a small US company called Pine Tree Audio - the Stealth 1000 was the ($10) more expensive one, and the Iso-Braid was significantly better, in my opinion. They cost only $60 for a 2 foot cable, and $10/foot up to 10 foot at $150; and you have a no-extra charge choice of 7 colors.
    The improvement in sound quality is quite obvious - nearly "night and day" - and it is as you describe. The depth and width and layering within the recording are *much* more obvious. Clarity bottom to top - is just obvious.

    What makes sens is the quality of copper or silver you use to feed the devices. As for myself I bought 2 meters of the new Oyaide Tunami with very good Furutech connectors for my CD player and I got a much better sound, especially in bass dynamics and details, with a improvement in the medium range. There is no black magic or mysteries around that; better quality of conductors gives a better sound. However, I agree when you say that power cables must be improved at the end. It should be useless with no benefits if you don't already have good speaker cables or DAC or CD player or amplifier at the beginning.

    I use Supra cables for EVERYTHING. Mains, power, interconnects, data - both for my head-fi and my home theater. I am in the enviable position of living in Sweden which is where Supra cable come from. As such they’re quite ubiquitous here, found in both regular stores as well as high end boutique shops. While I have nothing else to compare them to besides stock cables I seem them as residing in a very sweet spot on the curve of diminishing returns. If you can look past their signature baby blue color, you’re golden with Supra cables.

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound  3 місяці тому +1

      It will all come down to a cost vs value equation. A quick look at the comments here will show that promoting these devices as coming with such upgrades will be seen as irrelevant by some and outright snake oil by others which could actually devalue the product and brand in terms of perception. So, even though some off these things probably are affordable to make (more fuses than premium power cables), they don't help the manufacturers to realise any additional profit and even reduce it slightly per unit. Of course, a longer term view would be that they get more happy customers and recommendations, but profits are rarely considered long term.
      Secondly, many of the people designing these types of devices also don't believe in these tweaks (and often have the same dogmatic views as many of the commenters here) so that's part of it sometimes as well.

    I am working in the reinforced audio domain for the past 40 years now.We provide proaudio to large venues and high listed performers. With all do respect this is total BS. Spending 800 US on a single power cable is crazy. If we would even think about doing this in a big stadium setup we would have to spend 200K Us on powercables alone. We use the basic cables that are provided with the equipment it comes with. We run hundred or meters of standard power cables with standard AC plugs. And the sound it flawless. Thinking that a powercable makes the sound more vibrant, open, more lively stirs between the listeners ears. He or she hear what the want to hear. And telling them this is a powercable that cost 800 US makes them believe that it must be better sounding then a standard cable. Power distribution depend of a lot of things, but there are no cables in the world that make the power beter when you connect your equipment to the main socked with this cable. Power has to travel a long way before it reaches your listening space, that’s not in any way being corrected by a power cable of 50 cm. I am sorry but this is BS. It’s a audifile thing, great marketing but makes no sense what so ever.

    The fact why a power cable sounds better or worse or different is no rocket silence but common knowledge among 100 000s of people. Just take the time to study how electronics takes power from the tip of the sinus curve, about impedance, capacity, induction, high vs low awg, different speed on different material, on noice via mains ground, about EMF, about floor having different charge (often 1,2-1,5 v different then Mother Earth), about how different isolation affects the speed of the power cable, how the electronics create noice and that the electronics and cables needs to settle etc… You can also research voltage drops, dc on the mains and a lot, lot more…. So please, stop being ignorant and do the job and learn some knowledge before dismissing cables. Also make sure you pull the speakers out from the wall and try cables in mid-if or high-end stereo (not entry level) where all parts are good. Even a person with hearing problems should be able to tell large differences on most power cables IF… used in a highly resolving stereo. The ONLY effect of a changed power cable can theoretically be due to any shielding it may have, protecting any unshielded low level signal cables (interconnects) in proximity to it from mains frequency interference. This effect should be able to be measured by comparing performance measurements of the device with and without this cable. There are NO such measurements available by anybody on the internet. In subjective 'reviews' and 'comparisons', the potential for placebo and other such effects grows exponentially for such kind of supposedly subtle effects, when compared for example with speaker reviews. No non-blind such test should have ANY validity regardless who is performing it and how well intended or impartial he might be, be him a reviewer or a consumer reporting his 'findings'. It is high time for both reviewers and consumers to recognise the futility of such 'reviews'.

    Ask any audio engineer or study degree level electronics and the whole issue of power cables is so easily resolved.This whole thing with cables started with MONSTER cables in the 1980s who saw a clever way to market fancy audio cables as audiophile grade,there is no such grade,unlike say a grade of petroleum etc.There is NO scientific basis for investing 1000s in fancy power cables,read books by Douglas Self (and many others) a great audio engineer who is emphatic about this issue.The cable is NOT even in the signal path and the AC it carries is converted and noise filtered to DC via diode bridge and LCR filters after using a step down transformer...

      @aussie8114 3 місяці тому

      It has a lot to do with stray magnetic fields from a normal power cable which is un insulated and untwisted compared to a higher quality cable that includes this. Don’t think of the power cable as being at the end of the long power run but at the beginning of the device.

      There's chat in another comment thread about videos by Veritasium and Science Asylum discussing the fact that the power flowing into your audio gear isn't the stream of electrons coming from the power station in your city, but it's actually the flow of energy from around the cable and devices that's created by the charge within the power circuit (and therefore power cable). This would explain why the cables closest to the device could be more important than the KMs (or miles) of cables preceding it. If the mains cable is influencing the local charge and energy flow then it could potentially influence the sound (and seems to)

    All of these cables are not shielded correctly you never shield one end at the plug in the wall socket, what they seem to be that is wrong. if it has to be shielded at one end it has to be at the equipment end not the wall socket. the best to do both ends and that means the plug has to be metal or using copper tape and the socket needs to be Earth so you need to put copper tape around the socket connected to the earth make sure you're not near the positive of the socket and the same on the plug make sure you're not near the positive terminal you can buy a metal sockets and plugs.

    I always have difficulty with the language used by these types of reviews that are controversial to so many, such as Audio Science Review (no difference) versus power cable companies (huge difference). I would like Passion For Sound to clarify the varyinig statements "I'm SHOCKED that it can make THAT MUCH of a difference" coupled with "I'm PRETTY SURE you'd pick it, even in a blind test". Please perform a blind test, hopefully double blind, on various people and present the results. Is it truly "day and night" to everyone, or just a few? Can those with "audiophile hearing" hear the difference 10 out of 10 times, or something more like 7 out of 10, because then it's no longer "day and night", but more akin to an educated guess. Thank you kindly.

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound  3 місяці тому +2

      If you would care to fund the required gear and room hire / purchase and find me enough volunteers to make it statistically significant, I'd gladly do it, but I'm just one guy trying out gear and sharing my thoughts. I'm not hear to prove anything or convince anyone of anything. The level of planning and setup (both in time and cost) for such a test is prohibitive. No doubt the ASR crew would claim that I'm reluctant because it would disprove my findings, but I've tried a couple of times to setup tests within my means and those tests have been flawed due to my limited resources so I'm not even considering it anymore unless someone can fund it.

      I know that tone is difficult to convey in text, but I had no intention of being insulting (as I'm sensing some defensiveness), but rather just giving feedback for the future. I sincerely respect and value your opinion, which is why I'm subscribed to your channel, but become conflicted when being influenced to think about significance in areas of audio that I had generally dismissed. I should have rephrased my feedback and simply urged you to find some local friends to try some blind testing with, despite the limitations that might have. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me, though.

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound  3 місяці тому

      Sorry if I came across as defensive. 99% of comments discussing blind tests are from those holding the view that I/we need to prove any experience that they don't want to acknowledge as possible. Without the benefits of tone, I mistakenly bundled your comment into that group so I apologise.
      Unfortunately, the truth that remains from my previous comment is that conducting a meaningful blind test is actually quite challenging because we need to remove the delay between each setup or auditory memory and subconscious trickery of the mind gets involved. This requires a pair of identical source chains (or at least key devices if we can use the same DAC, etc.) and they need to be at a sufficiently high performance level to reveal what's changing (or not) in the sound.

    I can't explain it from a physics POV. I can explain it from a psychology POV using the very words you've spoken in this video, "It makes no sense." You're adjusting your beliefs to try to justify a perceived change. It's called cognitive dissonance. You don't have any measurements, objective testing, etc. that would substantiate anything but a perceived change that could be explained by something other than the power cable.

    Better sounding power cables? As for audible differences or improvements when it comes to power cables I'm going to have to check those out. It's kind of hard to want to spend hundreds of dollars on power cables when stores or generous audiophiles drop you a set or two for free and then still want to chance on trying to buy replacements for those. That's the best way to do it, I think. I started with affordable Supra cables and they convinced me.
