I've had Tellurium speaker cables for a few years now. I started with the Blue II's and then upgraded to the Black II's. The Blue II's are a mighty fine cable -- most of all imparting FUN to one's listening. They currently reside in my secondary, nearfield system, and whilst the Black II's are a tad better -- a bit more "audiophile" -- they're not IMHO quite as much fun as the Blue II's.
Being that the Blue II's are considerably cheaper (around 1/2 the price of the Black II's) many might prefer the price/benefit ratio. The Blue II's are certainly better than anything else I've listened to at around their price, like the Audioquest Rocket 22's for example, which are quite well regarded but sound like a dog's breakfast to me.
For a starter speaker cable that's less expensive than the Blue II's, I'd recommend AudioQuest FLX/SLiP 14/4 (available also for bi-wiring) at half their price or less. They too are a quite fun listen.
I'll never use any other speaker cables than the Tellurium Q Blue/Black II's. Whilst I'm sure there are better, more expensive Tellurum cables, the law of diminishing returns wouldn't make investment very attractive for me.

Even with an understanding of the physics it's impossible to say what about the Tellurium cables is actually influencing the sound because they don't even publish rudimentary details like capacitance. As a result it's impossible to predict how a longer run of the cable will perform, or how it will perform with a different amplifier. These details matter to studios and that's one of the reasons why the Canare and Mogami cables are so popular. Personally I think the phase effects that Tellurium describe are overblown for speakers, since the loudspeaker itself and the room have far more effect on phase. A slight change in the speaker position during cable swaps will change phase more than the cable itself will unless your other cables are junk.
For headphones, I do think it makes sense to invest in better cables, since room effects are out of the equation and amplifier synergies matter a lot more. A small change in cable capacitance can really affect the feedback loop of a lower powered, high feedback amplifier like most headphone amps. For speakers, I prefer to focus on quality, reliability, and predictability, and that means I'll be sticking with WBC Canares and Mogamis in my setup.

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound  3 місяці тому +1

The sound of a system is a sum of all parts so there's no reason to ignore phase in cables because the speakers have more influence. That would be like ignoring suspension in cars because tyres have more impact on traction.
As for the measurements of capacitance, these are consumer cables, not pro cables and, for all I know, they might have a pro division who consult with studios on their needs with exactly that type of information.

The Black II have a really nice treble and very good bass but they are midrange recessive so they sound very “hi-fi”. It isn’t a sound I particularly like and I couldn’t get on with them. They could work for you but if you have a dead neutral sound, maybe not the best. On a vintage or valve system it could be very good.

A lot of studios have powered studio monitors. I just got Buchardt A10 in my studio and they sound amazing. No wires except power cables! I did bought upgraded power cable and it make an audible difference. I also upgraded the wireless hub’s power supply with the Ifi Ipower elite and that was like a very signifiant DAC upgrade. The DACs are in each speakers, not in the hub, so even before the signal is transmit wirelessly (wisa protocol) the power supply does something to the digital signal… hard to believe! I was not a “believer” before, but with very transparent speakers like the A10, those tweaks make a very significant upgrade especially in the stereo image, separation, refinement of the hi and depth of the sound stage. It is maybe easier to test when the streamer, dac, preamp and amp are all standard and well implemented by Buchardt…

Canare and mogamis are good cables but they themselves sound different. I built cables using both and lived with them and compared. Mogami 3104 sounded more airy/extended but had softer bass compared to the canare 4s11 that had more pronounced bass but a rolled off top end. Since then I've moved to neotech cables and they gave me the best of both mogami/canare with an added level of refinement. So when Amir/Gene say that there are no real differences between budget cables and expensive ones it runs counter to my 25 years+ experience in the hobby.

Gene does not listen to speaker cables. As far as I know, he reviewed 2 high end speaker cables. Kimber 8TC and a pair of Audioquest. I forget the model but they were expensive. About 5k. He didn't listen to either cable. He did a 4 or 5 part video series on the AQ and never listened to them. When a reviewer refuses to use a product in its intended application, to me that's a red flag. Here's something else you might want to ask Gene about. He was given the best opportunity a cable denier ever received, and he chickened out. There has never been an offer this good, and its actually way more than anything they have ever asked for. Ted Denny, the owner of Synergistic Research, offered Gene an all expense paid trip to his factory in CA. 100% of his expenses would be paid for, along with an extra $100 per hour for his time away from work. The deal was simple. Gene could bring any type of equipment he wanted to his factory, and would have completely free run of the entire facility to do any testing he wanted with no restrictions. The only stipulation was that any testing would be video taped and recorded in high resolution audio files for anyone that wanted to see and hear for themselves.
How do you turn an offer like that down? And if you don't believe me, do a search on yourube and watch the video yourself. Search for, "Audioholics vs Synergistic Research", and you can watch Ted's offer for yourself.
Now for the junk science king. Amir. I'd have you read my posts where I prove that he does no science, but he pulls them all. You could ask to read them because the owner of the account that pulls them still has access. I doubt he will share them with you, so I'll ask you the same simple question I ask him. Can you go to ASR's channel and find 1 single example in any of his videos that would qualify as real science? Its entirely up to you. Just show me a single example of real science on everything he's ever done. And remember, the name of his channel is Audio SCIENCE Review. It should be an easy task, although Amir has never been able to do it.

Most tyres also fit on a wheel and roll, but I'll stay with my Pilot Sports thanks even though they're not the cheapest. (Read: there's more to a cable than impedance. You can watch a number of excellent interviews on UA-cam with a cable engineer from Iconoclast who explains ALL of the factors that influence the sound of a cable, plus the scientific reasons for the influences)

@@PassionforSound If they perform better that will show up in some measurements or a blind listening test.

Sure - if you know what to measure. Measuring the wrong thing and claiming they do nothing just proves ignorance though. I mean, I could measure the size of the tread pattern on two tires and conclude that both have the same surface area on the road and therefore grip the same, but if I actually drove the car, I could discover they could feel quite different because I didn't know what I should be measuring to properly understand the tyre's performance.
I'm not here to prove anything. Anytime I provide meaningful information about how and why cables DO influence the sound, the deniers are amazingly quick to divert the conversation rather than investigate with a curious mind so I'm done. I'll listen and share thoughts. I'll discuss with those who are respectful and open minded (even if they disagree), but I'm scrolling past all the noise.
I'll leave you with this and suspect you won't watch and consider any of the data he shares: ua-cam.com/video/v3nZM2BP9Ew/v-deo.htmlsi=CQg0xww7KwrrYUsE

@@PassionforSound so why not create a few videos explaining how to design speaker cables.

Because I'm not an engineer. Did you watch the video I linked?

Moving your head slightly at your sitting position will make much more difference than changing the cable so I think someone has a good imagination.

Tellurim are my favourite analogue cables, I have this exact model driving my Dynaudios and they do a superb job. Indeed the most obvious upgrade was the transient attack. Demo here: ua-cam.com/video/at8oFv3tvJA/v-deo.html
