Excellent walk-through, thank you! I could replace my display without deeper knowledge. The only difference on my side was that I have a Mac Book Pro 2021 16" and the display did not come with a proximity sensor cable. So I had to reuse the one from the old display. Great tutorial, thumbs up!

Wanted to say thank you for the instructions and help. Followed it down to the T and works awesome. Also, I didn't have shadows or any issues with my new display. I purchased my display on ebay used and didn't have no problems since the swap

Where do you find a PL1 screwdriver. Is it called something else? It doesn't seem to come in the repair kits
A PL1 is a Phillips head screwdriver also known as a PH1
I just did a display replacement following these instructions and just used a P2 screw driver. Just be careful to give it enough pressure so it won't overdrive and damage the screw head.
I had to replace my screen for similar reason but the new screen now has small rectangular shadows on the top of the screen.........
Unfortunately, due to apple's design and choice, these units have local dimming zones that are only reprogrammable by apple. So the small rectangles you are seeing at the top of the display are the dimming zones not being recalibrated after replacement. Apple is not willing to reprogram the display unless the repair is done at apple. So there is no fix as of now, hopefully in the future we will be able to reprogram the dimming zones!

Can I use this method to fix misaligned display lid in M2 Pro Macbook pro 14inch?
Yes, it should work the same with the M2 MacBook Pro models as they use the same LCD between both of the models.
We have a 2021 MacBook Pro m1 that has two very thin flickering lines one horizontal and the other vertical. Would this likely be a ribbon cable in most situations or display. Thanks
Very rarely do LCDVS display cables fail, unless liquid damage has occurred. In most cases the LCD has some sort of damage, typically hidden damages from the unit being transported in backpacks or similar cases.
can you just remove the top part and connect it to an external monitor?
