I still have no idea why no one copied the Hunt formula - even after hundreds of hours this game hasn't become stale for me, which is a first in all of gaming.
@@DirtyxLarry hood was sloppy and undercooked in all of its aspects. It is a shame to release a game with pre-alpha quality. Empty and claustrophobic locations, stupid AI, wooden-stiff animations, and, most of all, extremely linear gameplay.
I'm always shocked at this, although nobody's really ripped off Siege or Tarkov yet, either. I guess it's less obvious what really makes these games tick, there's a lot more design that goes into it than, say, building Fortnite out of the PubG model. Imagine if one of the big immersive sim studios put out a Hunt clone? Good lord.
Been playing hunt since the beginning of 2020. Still playing Hunt in 2021 and didn't need any reasons... but did I watch this whole video anyway? Yes I did. Thanks for always supporting such an awesome game, 4fs!
Regarding the sound design of this game: The first thing I said when got on this game just over a year ago was, "Damn, this game is art." And it really is. I am always amazed by how well done the sound is.

Even tho I get my ass handed to me on occasion. Hunt is one game I'm just not able to walk away from. You nailed so much right here as to why it's such a beautiful game.
Me and my buddy started playing last event. and been playing almost nightly ever since. While it's gotten tough now that we're fighting experienced....sweat lords, it's still a game you always wanna play again. One of the most memorable moments was offering a dude in a compound to split the bounty, and he accepted. He went out to revive his buddy, and we all extracted. Just hilarious when all chat interactions exceed shit talking.
That last bit is honestly amazing, and I wonder how often that happens. The one or two people that I watch playing Hunt are so stacked with stuff in game that they only play for the pvp experience, and would totally ignore something like this.
I've played just a bit less than you and I agree I mean when I first started I joined the discord and a guy took me in the game and was being helpful but I had literally just installed the game like 2 hrs prior and you could tell my bad play frustrated him. Now when i play with guys who have a ton of time in the game they are great teammates as long as you have your basics down and dont just crouch everywhere and actually assist in fire fights. The dudes that are just starting getting good arent as good of teammates. They tend to be out for themselves and have little patience for a teammate. I really enjoy the game even though sometimes I have no idea how my shots arent landing ;)
There’s a difference between extracting with a bounty and “winning”. That’s a bit subjective when it comes to hunt. But I’m my opinion To “win” a match in hunt is being the last team/man standing with bounty

Its kind of weird how a game with such strong immersion probably has the wackiest collection of weapons and consumables I have seen. From bee bombs, bomb lances and derringers' there always new and ridiculous ways to style on other players
But its wacky thats still in theme and aesthetic. ONE fantasy weapon (boom Lance) is totally fine. And since there are hives and exploding bug barrels, a jar o' bees isn't THAT unrelated. I prefer a regular grenade but one of my mates loves the bees. It's his prepared building breaching weapon with shotgun or melee.

The sound features are really, REALLY, important in Hunt Showdown. I've learned that the hard way...
I’m not good at FPS games. Never have been, probably never will be. I just don’t have the twitch reflexes. So finding a game that rewards careful planning, positioning, and with a gun roster that makes everyone shoot as slow as I do, has been awesome. I’m still not the best of the best, but with practice I’ve gotten to the point that I can pretty reliably go toe-to-toe with folks. Have had some intermittent issues lately (on console) with hit registration. Most of the time it’s fine, but now and then I can put a bullet through center mass and not get a marker.

I think that Hunt needs to be given a great of deal credit race and gender wise in the range of characters available, it's all beautifully equal . Also unlike most other games they're all just average folk, nothing sexualised - boobs, muscles, butts, skimpy outfits etc!
Nice comment about the Dolch/Mauser. What I think is unfair about this gun is its unrealistic depiction in the game: it of course never jams. In real life, that thing was never as reliable as a revolver and I really think Crytek should work that in, especially if a gun got dirty. It would balance the game so much more.
One important thing about the game that it needs a friends or ( make friends) in game.. I was playing with randoms in my first 50~ hours or so and I would give it like 6/10. But once I start playing with friends this game is a masterpiece
I got into the game last Halloween because one of your earlier videos, where you also talked about sound design. Now here's the thing... Hunt was too hard for me. I never liked competitive games and I'm honestly not that good of a player. I'm an adult, I have a life, missed out a decade of gaming since I couldn't afford a rig, BUT. In one of my first matches I did a double kill with a winfield. I was scared shitless and got shot in the head seconds later. But the adrenaline high, that was amazing! So I got my mate to buy the game, he was first against it because of the period, but tried it and since then, we are religious, we play almost every weekend, and we break down EVERY match, everything we did right or wrong, and slowly but surely started getting better. And this is where something amazing happened: I started to see concepts like bravery, effectiveness, etc. in a different light. They were not feelings or attributes you either have or don't. They were choices. And I instinctively started to break down interactions I make while at work or with friends, and find the same choices. I've learned things from the game that I can apply to real life situations. I'm more assertive, more confident and more methodical, and not as emotionally sensitive to mistakes and rejection as before. And now I'm kind of a weekend adrenaline junkie in Hunt, not afraid to lose, seeking the thrill of the fight, and as often as not, coming out alive. So yeah, thank you for your vids.
Also if you do really like some of the gun skins and don’t want to fork out the money dropped dlc guns from dead hunters can be used and kept even if you don’t own the dlc. I like to keep them and think of them as trophies! Great video! Thanks for being a pillar of the community

One thing you didnt mention, this game looks absolutely gorgeous. Technically speaking, the graphics are as good or better than the top AAA games being released today and the art design of the setting is so grim and dark and horrifying that its wonderful.

Hunt is my most played game since CS1.6 . This game is pure gold. Sure, it's a bit clunky, you sometimes get frustrated when you get wrecked. But it's just sooo damn good. Sound design is better than every game i ever played, BY FAR. Visuals are perfect for this genre and the theme itself is top. Balance it good too, you can play whatever you want. If you are playing to your strengths, you win, easy as that. Since i play this game since Day1, i really love to see new players joining us. Crytek does an outstanding job with this game. They even REALLY listen to the community.
On the fence about getting this game, was wondering if people could give me some opinions. For context I'm a relatively casual gamer in the Oceania region. - What's the Oceania playerbase like, in terms of skill and numbers? I've heard it's largely populated by people who've been playing for a year or more, and as a more casual player I don't really want to focus on getting super gud in order to not get consistently dunked on, nor do I want to be stuck in massive matchmaking queues to find matches with fellow noobs. (I had this problem with Titanfall 2's multiplayer, with long matchmaking times and getting stomped constantly by elite guys with Krabers) Cheers!
I actually managed to win my first ever match in this game due to what's probably dumb luck,like someone didn't pick up the bounty from boss so I went in there and just killed them even though they were camping the doorway. Went from level 1 to 14 instantly after that but 5 matches later haven't extracted once. It's pretty hard when everyone you fight is at least level 70 and you just started. Though after failing to extract few times I just fucking quit even trying to get optimal wins etc I'm having A LOT more fun playing without being super careful etc. I'm not doing stuff knifing grunts even though that's what you wanna do to be optimal because it's more fun to just shoot them and I need target practice and I'm listening to podcasts etc on the background so I'm not really paying that much attention to the sounds of the game either. That said I can still hear someone sprinting near me just fine so I always get at least couple of kills per game.
Hunt showdown is unlike any game I've played. Usualy when I play a shooter I suck. Too many recoil patterns to memorize, have to use counter strafing and even after all that there is spread which sucks. This game has gunplay which is brutally to learn. But I put time into learning the bullet travel time of guns and guess what? It made me better. There is a high skill calling but unlike other games like csgo or valorant, it's very possible to outplay people who are much better at aim but have no other skill. It's also a beautiful game both in sound and graphics. I only have 2 complaints about the game. 1 the graphics have gone down a bit over time and 2 I keep getting killed by people with mosins for some reason.
It's a great game compared to many other shooter games. The only thing I REALLY miss in this game is a "Solo mode" for bounty hunt. Not the Solo mode like we have it right now, where you also play against Duos. I want a mode, where EVERYONE plays solo and this not only in quickplay.
And here are reasons not to play it. People are so scared to lose their hunters that they run away, nobody wants to fight anymore, which begs the question, why the fuck do you play this game ? Hacking is at an all time high and there doesn't seem to be anything done about it. Hit reg hasn't been properly fixed and still has lots of issues as they stated on their website. Alot of speculation about aim assist for new players or bad players and this one is probably the most insulting, all the money you spend on dlc, skins and other cosmetics doesn't go into the game but into other different crytek projects...
I started playing Hunt a month ago and I am in love with this game. I think first time since Unreal Tournament a FPS has given me so much fun (even though it is totally different). Even my wife loves to watch me playing, even though she doesn't like FPS games and horrors. BTW I watched like 90% of your Hunt videos already :P
I just started playing this game 2 weeks ago because of the sale on steam and my friends and I have been having tons of fun. I'm surprised I don't hear more about this game, its fun as hell and really solid.

When you said, to much spam traits and weapons, I really felt it. First time ever. No one plays specific weapons anymore. Especially some of the single shot. Only fast spam going for headshot. Miss old times now

The game needs a bigger player base on console for sure. I have a good amount of time into the game and am not half bad but it keeps putting me against players that are prestige 15+ with INSANE K/D ratios.
So I'm not crazy thinking that the matchmaking is broken. On the very first match I played there where two bounties. Both killed banished and claimed within 5-6 ish minutes. I kept checking the map to navigate. One team evacuated the other hunted us down. Like aggressively. For 30 minutes. We just kept running around the map trying to get away. Eventually we all 3 of us got killed. But the players that got us where "lvl 1" but played like someone whose played the have for que sometime. Definitely not the play style of someone new. We quit after 9 matches because that was the case almost everytime.
@@Dr.Octavios yeah it’s crazy. The last six matches I played I was fired at 9 times and 6 of those 9 shots were instant kills from mid-long range... The game is great but I feel the only time the matches are slightly balanced are on Saturday or Sundays during the day when more people are online.
Loved the dig at the Dolch. It really is the only gun in this game that I cannot stand. It's actually been really disheartening playing Hunt due to how many of them I see. Came across a team with nothing but the Dolch and the Dolch Precision and I've never been so sick to my stomach. Three guys with a dolch precision and dual Dolch. It's high cost isn't a factor. I've got over 20,000 in reserve to just spend and I'd have to lose every game for about thirty games before I ran out of dolch to spam. It just needs to go. There's nothing else to it. On a side note, barring the Dolch, Hunt is the best PvP experience and offers a truly unique game that never ceases to bring tension and excitement. It is by far one of the best shooters out there, and I strongly suggest picking it up. But watch some of it online first before going in because the game is VERY different to just about every shooter out there.
The reason hunt is such a great game is because no two matches are ever quite the same. You really never know what you're gonna get yourself into. Stack that with the fact that you never truly know where your enemies are until they are right on top of you adds massive tension. Especially on foggy or night maps. My buddy and I arrived at a compound where the bounty was located, only to find at least 3 teams of hunters completely dead, and the monster was still at full health. With tons of fog in the air and no darksight, we literally waited things out for over 15 minutes completely freaked out thinking someone was stalking us. Turned out the teams had just whipped each other and the last two players traded on their deathblows, but the lack of information played with our heads and made it really exhilarating in a way no other game can.
I always wanted to get hunt but thought i wouldnt like it/ be too hard as a a solo.... got in april 2nd and i now have 215 hours in it lmao. Also i have spent at least $35 on dlc’s because i just love the game.
I love hunt. Basically all weapons are viable to the point that the expensive mosin can get wrecked by the extremely cheap starting weapon Winfield in the right circumstances, and the fact that being able to shoot good isn't everything in this game, using sound you can be the one that always notices enemies first and sets up a deadly ambush.
The part about mastering and getting good at the game is all well and good, but as everyone who have played for a good amount of time knows, no matter how good you get at the game you will still have those days where you die to the stupidest shit or a beginner player and there's probably gonna be two types of people who might respond to this from the people who have played for a while, either those who accepts that hunt giveth and hunt taketh and admit it or the liars x3 It's okay to die in Hunt, it's a big part of the game.
I just wish they introduced levering before qs became a ''exploit'' after being in the game for 2 solid years^^ Don't think we will ever see it back now... even tho we have pretty devastating high rof weaps now wich made rocking gear like Nitro, , double revolvers,crossbow, and such way less viable and less fun to use overall

I tend to agree with you on the fact that theres too many speedy weapons or traits in game. Most of the older guys I play with think the same. It destroys the biggest factor of this game, its use of weapons. It's not fun getting creamed over and over by the same dolche/Avto combo or levering winny with dolce, ect
Oh please, new players coming =) Playing solo for the last few days with so called "skill-based matchmaking" on, getting killed every one game with a very rare kill of enemy, and enemies always have ~1500 kills or even more, I myself have ~550/580 KD. New players xD please didn't say that. Some ppl come after new map, but they leave very soon, because fanbase who never stop playing becoming even more experienced since their last time, and this is how its would work. This is self-propelled small online, nobody wants to train on zombies to play a game, it's an amusement - not a sport for money. Maybe if they put some fast-paced a bit more casual mode with small maps to train gungame only, that's might help. Also playing with random is super-awful most of the time for me.
I fully agree! It was probably close to 15 years ago I last played a pvp fps game last time. I just never considered them being something I would find entertaining anymore. Being off that genre for so long, the idea of being ganked by kids with reaction times in the single digits just didn't appealed to me. That's until a friend of mine talked me into trying Hunt: Showdown, early January 2021. He sold it to me as a PVPVE-game; "It's a PVE game with PVP elements to it" he told me. The other way around would have been a more apt description, but I'm glad he manage to peak my interest enough to try it out and to go into it without too many preconceptions. Now, 5 months later, I am closing in on 400 h gameplay. Don't get me wrong though, I still get ganked; but it is from all age brackets. The thing you mention about different play styles being viable is very true - that and the pacing that tend to ebb and flow allow you a chance to play to your own strengths. I like the description of it being a "Sandbox PVP" game too.
Hunt sounds great on any headphones. However, if you can, get a pair of open backed headphones from an audio company. Don't buy gaming headsets. It will change everything. It's like going from 720p to 1440p but for audio.
I've had very mixed results in skill based matchmaking making, I'm not that good at a 1.3 KDA but I get matched sometimes with ppl that have a 0.8 kda or even 4.0kda, prestige 0 up to 100. free hunter loadouts up to facing gangs of avtomats. It still needs some work.
One huge reason not to play it: the servers suck. I mean this 100% literally; I am not exaggerating: I cannot play this game. Every single, and I do mean *every single* match ends with me getting disconnected. When you get disconnected in this game even for one second, you will not reconnect. If you have even slightly shoddy internet, don't buy this game. This wasn't an issue at all until a community event a few months ago. Before that, I never suffered hardly any connections at all. This is pure speculation, but maybe their servers were overloaded and took some heat damage, or maybe there are just alot of new concurrent players right now (normally a good thing, assuming the servers can keep up). This actually used to be my favorite game, but the game is unplayable for me now. Sucks, man.
I’ve played over a 1,000 hours of Hunt on console, it’s a game like no other. Recently with the introduction of custom ammo it has changed the gameplay, sometimes not always for the better. Explosive rounds can be a little cheap, especially when a team of trios all load out on double medium Springfield’s with explosive and spam the floor to kill you. Other than that, Hunt will always be a strong entry within my active gaming library and frequently I will reconnect with online friends to play this game, be challenged and feel rewarded when we manage to pull together as a team to accomplish that double bounty (Gauntlet) win and wipe a server in PVP.
As a new player I "almost" abandoned the game. I was only playing quickplay and boy the matchup there sucks. But when I joined the normal contracts I fell in love with the game. I hope I can buy a new PC with a good graphic card soon to play this game on high quality lol. For now laptop goes BRRRRRRRRRRR
You know, I'm fifteen, I got a little job at our neighbors for the entire summer. I cut their quite big lawn every week over the course of two days (usually on Friday and Saturday), my point being, I'll be able to get just enough money to get this game by the end of summer break, and this guy convinced me that this isn't warzone with a dark green filter but something totally unique! (That I could also play with my friend!)
Played for a year and was absolutely entrapped by this game, but honestly, after the matchmaking g update my experience went to the gutter, constant headshots out of nowhere playing against 8.5 KDA players, just no more fun, one day I booted it up and realized I wasn't having fun anymore. Hope they can fix the matchmaking
I can't think anymore that sound design in hunt is some kind of unique selling feature. Rather I came to think that it's a standard, and if you don't meet it - your sound design is garbage. Needless to say, not a lot of games meet it. P.S. You realize that when you talk about improved new player experience, you club some fools like baby seals in background? Eeesh, was painful to look!
I love Hunt. I have just shy of a thousand hours in it, but the elo ranking and how you are ranked is a major problem in this game. When you have a PVP shooter that does not have KDA be a major factor for the elo, you get people that just take advantage of this. I really am sick of seeing me, a .98 kda, apparently in the same elo and "equal skill" as a dude that has a 1.90, because reasons.......
Hunt unfortunately also has many issues and it had many of them for a long time. Here is some info so you can choose if you wanna buy it after you heard the good the bad and the ugly: I focus on negative info since 4FS focussed on the good stuff about hunt. :-) It is lacking important features like a reconnect feature or ranked gameplay . You cannot queue alone vs other solos, just solo vs teams if u want to play alone. If you have a buddy you can queue vs duos or trios but you cannot search for a random partner if you dont wanna play 2 v 3. Many criticize there is a hacker problem. I encounter every single match (if I dont die within the first seconds of course) at least one bug. Many times it does not matter all too much, but sometimes I have a disadvantage, get disconnected or die directly or indirectly because of it. There is no weapon "balancing" in the traditional sense: You have to pay for a loadout before playing. Striclty better weapons cost more from your pool of ingame currency. There are drawbacks and advantages but some weapons are strcitly better than others. It is poorly optimized for Radeon cards (at least in my books, Vega 56 almost not playable). The focus of Crytek seems to be Skins and cosmetics lately (instead of fixing bugs). It is true though that there is still content added to this game aswell. Soon a new map will come. I recently started playing hunt again, and even convinced some friends to join me. We're all hooked to the game now. It really deserves more credit for the unique features and gameplay. Hunt even induces a type of tense gunfight feeling, without stress or rage. 10/10. If you can pick up the game, I'd highly suggest it!
Just picked this game up on PS. Stressful this game is stressful. I like it, i think it has a certain level of intrigue to it. The combination of pvp & pve is what makes this game stressful imo. I haven't played bounty hunt yet just quick, to get a feel for the game before I get stomped🤣. I'm still getting stomped though. I'm not a fan of Battle Royal games, but I have heard a lot of good things about it, & imo it's loosely battle royal at best. Can't wait to get good.
This is the hardest game I have ever played! but there`s nothing compared to the intense PVP-PVE fights, nothing... That feeling when you are inside a compound with the bounty and you listen to enemy players walking around the compound, looking for a stealth entrance, praying not to fall in a trap, that feeling is unique!
Wish I could return but the whole PvP system just ruins the horror survival experience for me. Your more afraid of facing other players than the monsters to put it bluntly. Wish they had a co-op mode with 2-4 players with enhanced enemies where the last one standing wins. Kinda like king of the hill or something like that. However proud of their work and don’t regret supporting them after all this time plus more power to whoever still plays it have fun.
The community is one of the best. I get ggs pretty much every game. There's those few toxic cod players, but they are ignorable. And still love this game. It's my go to. I just wish it had a few more rewards for reps. But the "running the gaunlet" is holding me over for now.

They need to add a new game mode, dont get me wrong new weapons, bosses, and maps is good but not enough for me. I would like a new game mode. Maybe something similar to what they originally planed back in 2014 or a bigger team based game like a 4v4 or 6v6 with the maps split and each team has a boss they have to protect, while trying to banish the opposite teams boss. They could keep the same mechanics of having to look for the clues then find the boss. But just like you, the enemy team knows where there clues r so they can booby trap them. Now what if they created a horde type mode, where you could of just start at the bounty and it was already banishing but all the adds on the map just start swarming you trying to prevent you from succeeding. The main problem with that in my opinion is they dont have enough adds in the game yet for that mode. They could add snakes, gators, hyenas, vultures etc. I feel like if they keep walking in this direction the game will slowly be forgotten.
Man i wish they'd allow 60fps on the next gen consoles. The "unfair advantage" argument holds no water, most players on pc are playing at completely different specs, yet in the same lobbies so why is it such a big no no for xbox sx and ps5 players to be in xbox one and ps4 lobbies?

I stopped playing Hunt due to my PS4 not being able to handle graphic heavy games because of overheating :/ however im gonna get a ps5 very soon and im looking forward to getting back to it!
I think the point about sound really deserves highlighting because it's *intuitive*. It's not an exaggeration to say humans literally evolved to engage with this sort of sound, and in life the very act of listening and observing through sound what can't necessarily be seen is exciting - tense - and rewarding. And it's just such a shame so many games don't make better use of that.

The game is hard but rewarding,the world is beautiful,firefight is intense,weapons are cool and fun to use,i've put ~600h into Hunt and the only time i've taken a break from it is the cheater infestation right after the twitch drop event.
I dont know how it is in higher elo, but for my elo (i think mid to low mid) i feel like the matches are much more consistently fair. Ever since the match making change i almost never feel like i faced a team so damn good i never stood a chance. The vast majority of the matches feel very well balanced now for my potato butt, and has made it much more easier for my friends who tried Hunt in the past but got blasted away. Seriously now is such an fantastic time to play Hunt, pick the game up or if you are on the edge wait for a sale, Hunt Showdown usually goes on sale a few times each year.
The learning curve is way steeper then other game from blood line 1 to 15 i way loseing gun fights I should have won then I used the spark the single shot rifle and I love it so much I am on a wining streak and kill at least two people a match im blood rank 45 right now but I’m going for 100

@@DirtyxLarry hood was sloppy and undercooked in all of its aspects. It is a shame to release a game with pre-alpha quality. Empty and claustrophobic locations, stupid AI, wooden-stiff animations, and, most of all, extremely linear gameplay.
I'm always shocked at this, although nobody's really ripped off Siege or Tarkov yet, either. I guess it's less obvious what really makes these games tick, there's a lot more design that goes into it than, say, building Fortnite out of the PubG model.
Imagine if one of the big immersive sim studios put out a Hunt clone? Good lord.

The sound EFFECTS is great. The sounds itself is garbage. No way to tell in a building if the guy is running above, below or same level as you.

Even tho I get my ass handed to me on occasion. Hunt is one game I'm just not able to walk away from. You nailed so much right here as to why it's such a beautiful game.
Me and my buddy started playing last event. and been playing almost nightly ever since. While it's gotten tough now that we're fighting experienced....sweat lords, it's still a game you always wanna play again.
One of the most memorable moments was offering a dude in a compound to split the bounty, and he accepted. He went out to revive his buddy, and we all extracted. Just hilarious when all chat interactions exceed shit talking.
That last bit is honestly amazing, and I wonder how often that happens. The one or two people that I watch playing Hunt are so stacked with stuff in game that they only play for the pvp experience, and would totally ignore something like this.

I've played just a bit less than you and I agree I mean when I first started I joined the discord and a guy took me in the game and was being helpful but I had literally just installed the game like 2 hrs prior and you could tell my bad play frustrated him.
Now when i play with guys who have a ton of time in the game they are great teammates as long as you have your basics down and dont just crouch everywhere and actually assist in fire fights. The dudes that are just starting getting good arent as good of teammates. They tend to be out for themselves and have little patience for a teammate.
I really enjoy the game even though sometimes I have no idea how my shots arent landing ;)
There’s a difference between extracting with a bounty and “winning”. That’s a bit subjective when it comes to hunt. But I’m my opinion To “win” a match in hunt is being the last team/man standing with bounty

Speaking of shotgun spread, me thinks it's time to update the old shotgun video. Not just for the custom ammo but apparently they changed a lot of handcanon spreads.
Its kind of weird how a game with such strong immersion probably has the wackiest collection of weapons and consumables I have seen. From bee bombs, bomb lances and derringers' there always new and ridiculous ways to style on other players
But its wacky thats still in theme and aesthetic. ONE fantasy weapon (boom Lance) is totally fine. And since there are hives and exploding bug barrels, a jar o' bees isn't THAT unrelated. I prefer a regular grenade but one of my mates loves the bees. It's his prepared building breaching weapon with shotgun or melee.

I’m not good at FPS games. Never have been, probably never will be. I just don’t have the twitch reflexes. So finding a game that rewards careful planning, positioning, and with a gun roster that makes everyone shoot as slow as I do, has been awesome. I’m still not the best of the best, but with practice I’ve gotten to the point that I can pretty reliably go toe-to-toe with folks.
Have had some intermittent issues lately (on console) with hit registration. Most of the time it’s fine, but now and then I can put a bullet through center mass and not get a marker.

I think that Hunt needs to be given a great of deal credit race and gender wise in the range of characters available, it's all beautifully equal . Also unlike most other games they're all just average folk, nothing sexualised - boobs, muscles, butts, skimpy outfits etc!
The random hunter generation pretty much forces everyone to play all types of character models. It's great.
Nice comment about the Dolch/Mauser. What I think is unfair about this gun is its unrealistic depiction in the game: it of course never jams. In real life, that thing was never as reliable as a revolver and I really think Crytek should work that in, especially if a gun got dirty. It would balance the game so much more.

I got into the game last Halloween because one of your earlier videos, where you also talked about sound design. Now here's the thing... Hunt was too hard for me. I never liked competitive games and I'm honestly not that good of a player. I'm an adult, I have a life, missed out a decade of gaming since I couldn't afford a rig, BUT. In one of my first matches I did a double kill with a winfield. I was scared shitless and got shot in the head seconds later. But the adrenaline high, that was amazing! So I got my mate to buy the game, he was first against it because of the period, but tried it and since then, we are religious, we play almost every weekend, and we break down EVERY match, everything we did right or wrong, and slowly but surely started getting better. And this is where something amazing happened: I started to see concepts like bravery, effectiveness, etc. in a different light. They were not feelings or attributes you either have or don't. They were choices. And I instinctively started to break down interactions I make while at work or with friends, and find the same choices. I've learned things from the game that I can apply to real life situations. I'm more assertive, more confident and more methodical, and not as emotionally sensitive to mistakes and rejection as before. And now I'm kind of a weekend adrenaline junkie in Hunt, not afraid to lose, seeking the thrill of the fight, and as often as not, coming out alive.
So yeah, thank you for your vids.

Also if you do really like some of the gun skins and don’t want to fork out the money dropped dlc guns from dead hunters can be used and kept even if you don’t own the dlc. I like to keep them and think of them as trophies!

One thing you didnt mention, this game looks absolutely gorgeous. Technically speaking, the graphics are as good or better than the top AAA games being released today and the art design of the setting is so grim and dark and horrifying that its wonderful.

Hunt is my most played game since CS1.6 . This game is pure gold. Sure, it's a bit clunky, you sometimes get frustrated when you get wrecked. But it's just sooo damn good. Sound design is better than every game i ever played, BY FAR. Visuals are perfect for this genre and the theme itself is top. Balance it good too, you can play whatever you want. If you are playing to your strengths, you win, easy as that.
Since i play this game since Day1, i really love to see new players joining us. Crytek does an outstanding job with this game. They even REALLY listen to the community.

On the fence about getting this game, was wondering if people could give me some opinions. For context I'm a relatively casual gamer in the Oceania region.
- What's the Oceania playerbase like, in terms of skill and numbers? I've heard it's largely populated by people who've been playing for a year or more, and as a more casual player I don't really want to focus on getting super gud in order to not get consistently dunked on, nor do I want to be stuck in massive matchmaking queues to find matches with fellow noobs. (I had this problem with Titanfall 2's multiplayer, with long matchmaking times and getting stomped constantly by elite guys with Krabers)

I actually managed to win my first ever match in this game due to what's probably dumb luck,like someone didn't pick up the bounty from boss so I went in there and just killed them even though they were camping the doorway. Went from level 1 to 14 instantly after that but 5 matches later haven't extracted once. It's pretty hard when everyone you fight is at least level 70 and you just started.
Though after failing to extract few times I just fucking quit even trying to get optimal wins etc I'm having A LOT more fun playing without being super careful etc. I'm not doing stuff knifing grunts even though that's what you wanna do to be optimal because it's more fun to just shoot them and I need target practice and I'm listening to podcasts etc on the background so I'm not really paying that much attention to the sounds of the game either. That said I can still hear someone sprinting near me just fine so I always get at least couple of kills per game.
Hunt showdown is unlike any game I've played. Usualy when I play a shooter I suck. Too many recoil patterns to memorize, have to use counter strafing and even after all that there is spread which sucks. This game has gunplay which is brutally to learn. But I put time into learning the bullet travel time of guns and guess what? It made me better. There is a high skill calling but unlike other games like csgo or valorant, it's very possible to outplay people who are much better at aim but have no other skill. It's also a beautiful game both in sound and graphics. I only have 2 complaints about the game. 1 the graphics have gone down a bit over time and 2 I keep getting killed by people with mosins for some reason.
It's a great game compared to many other shooter games.
The only thing I REALLY miss in this game is a "Solo mode" for bounty hunt. Not the Solo mode like we have it right now, where you also play against Duos. I want a mode, where EVERYONE plays solo and this not only in quickplay.
And here are reasons not to play it. People are so scared to lose their hunters that they run away, nobody wants to fight anymore, which begs the question, why the fuck do you play this game ? Hacking is at an all time high and there doesn't seem to be anything done about it. Hit reg hasn't been properly fixed and still has lots of issues as they stated on their website. Alot of speculation about aim assist for new players or bad players and this one is probably the most insulting, all the money you spend on dlc, skins and other cosmetics doesn't go into the game but into other different crytek projects...
I started playing Hunt a month ago and I am in love with this game. I think first time since Unreal Tournament a FPS has given me so much fun (even though it is totally different). Even my wife loves to watch me playing, even though she doesn't like FPS games and horrors.

The game needs a bigger player base on console for sure. I have a good amount of time into the game and am not half bad but it keeps putting me against players that are prestige 15+ with INSANE K/D ratios.
So I'm not crazy thinking that the matchmaking is broken. On the very first match I played there where two bounties. Both killed banished and claimed within 5-6 ish minutes. I kept checking the map to navigate. One team evacuated the other hunted us down. Like aggressively. For 30 minutes. We just kept running around the map trying to get away. Eventually we all 3 of us got killed. But the players that got us where "lvl 1" but played like someone whose played the have for que sometime. Definitely not the play style of someone new. We quit after 9 matches because that was the case almost everytime.

The game is great but I feel the only time the matches are slightly balanced are on Saturday or Sundays during the day when more people are online.
Loved the dig at the Dolch. It really is the only gun in this game that I cannot stand. It's actually been really disheartening playing Hunt due to how many of them I see. Came across a team with nothing but the Dolch and the Dolch Precision and I've never been so sick to my stomach. Three guys with a dolch precision and dual Dolch. It's high cost isn't a factor. I've got over 20,000 in reserve to just spend and I'd have to lose every game for about thirty games before I ran out of dolch to spam. It just needs to go. There's nothing else to it.
On a side note, barring the Dolch, Hunt is the best PvP experience and offers a truly unique game that never ceases to bring tension and excitement. It is by far one of the best shooters out there, and I strongly suggest picking it up. But watch some of it online first before going in because the game is VERY different to just about every shooter out there.

The reason hunt is such a great game is because no two matches are ever quite the same. You really never know what you're gonna get yourself into. Stack that with the fact that you never truly know where your enemies are until they are right on top of you adds massive tension. Especially on foggy or night maps. My buddy and I arrived at a compound where the bounty was located, only to find at least 3 teams of hunters completely dead, and the monster was still at full health. With tons of fog in the air and no darksight, we literally waited things out for over 15 minutes completely freaked out thinking someone was stalking us. Turned out the teams had just whipped each other and the last two players traded on their deathblows, but the lack of information played with our heads and made it really exhilarating in a way no other game can.
I always wanted to get hunt but thought i wouldnt like it/ be too hard as a a solo.... got in april 2nd and i now have 215 hours in it lmao. Also i have spent at least $35 on dlc’s because i just love the game.

I love hunt. Basically all weapons are viable to the point that the expensive mosin can get wrecked by the extremely cheap starting weapon Winfield in the right circumstances, and the fact that being able to shoot good isn't everything in this game, using sound you can be the one that always notices enemies first and sets up a deadly ambush.
The part about mastering and getting good at the game is all well and good, but as everyone who have played for a good amount of time knows, no matter how good you get at the game you will still have those days where you die to the stupidest shit or a beginner player and there's probably gonna be two types of people who might respond to this from the people who have played for a while, either those who accepts that hunt giveth and hunt taketh and admit it or the liars x3 It's okay to die in Hunt, it's a big part of the game.
I just wish they introduced levering before qs became a ''exploit'' after being in the game for 2 solid years^^ Don't think we will ever see it back now... even tho we have pretty devastating high rof weaps now wich made rocking gear like Nitro, , double revolvers,crossbow, and such way less viable and less fun to use overall

I tend to agree with you on the fact that theres too many speedy weapons or traits in game. Most of the older guys I play with think the same. It destroys the biggest factor of this game, its use of weapons. It's not fun getting creamed over and over by the same dolche/Avto combo or levering winny with dolce, ect

Playing solo for the last few days with so called "skill-based matchmaking" on, getting killed every one game with a very rare kill of enemy, and enemies always have ~1500 kills or even more, I myself have ~550/580 KD. New players xD please didn't say that. Some ppl come after new map, but they leave very soon, because fanbase who never stop playing becoming even more experienced since their last time, and this is how its would work. This is self-propelled small online, nobody wants to train on zombies to play a game, it's an amusement - not a sport for money. Maybe if they put some fast-paced a bit more casual mode with small maps to train gungame only, that's might help. Also playing with random is super-awful most of the time for me.
I fully agree! It was probably close to 15 years ago I last played a pvp fps game last time. I just never considered them being something I would find entertaining anymore. Being off that genre for so long, the idea of being ganked by kids with reaction times in the single digits just didn't appealed to me. That's until a friend of mine talked me into trying Hunt: Showdown, early January 2021. He sold it to me as a PVPVE-game; "It's a PVE game with PVP elements to it" he told me. The other way around would have been a more apt description, but I'm glad he manage to peak my interest enough to try it out and to go into it without too many preconceptions. Now, 5 months later, I am closing in on 400 h gameplay. Don't get me wrong though, I still get ganked; but it is from all age brackets. The thing you mention about different play styles being viable is very true - that and the pacing that tend to ebb and flow allow you a chance to play to your own strengths. I like the description of it being a "Sandbox PVP" game too.

Hunt sounds great on any headphones. However, if you can, get a pair of open backed headphones from an audio company. Don't buy gaming headsets. It will change everything. It's like going from 720p to 1440p but for audio.
I've had very mixed results in skill based matchmaking making, I'm not that good at a 1.3 KDA but I get matched sometimes with ppl that have a 0.8 kda or even 4.0kda, prestige 0 up to 100. free hunter loadouts up to facing gangs of avtomats. It still needs some work.
One huge reason not to play it: the servers suck. I mean this 100% literally; I am not exaggerating: I cannot play this game.
Every single, and I do mean *every single* match ends with me getting disconnected. When you get disconnected in this game even for one second, you will not reconnect. If you have even slightly shoddy internet, don't buy this game.
This wasn't an issue at all until a community event a few months ago. Before that, I never suffered hardly any connections at all. This is pure speculation, but maybe their servers were overloaded and took some heat damage, or maybe there are just alot of new concurrent players right now (normally a good thing, assuming the servers can keep up).
This actually used to be my favorite game, but the game is unplayable for me now. Sucks, man.
I’ve played over a 1,000 hours of Hunt on console, it’s a game like no other.
Recently with the introduction of custom ammo it has changed the gameplay, sometimes not always for the better. Explosive rounds can be a little cheap, especially when a team of trios all load out on double medium Springfield’s with explosive and spam the floor to kill you.
Other than that, Hunt will always be a strong entry within my active gaming library and frequently I will reconnect with online friends to play this game, be challenged and feel rewarded when we manage to pull together as a team to accomplish that double bounty (Gauntlet) win and wipe a server in PVP.
As a new player I "almost" abandoned the game.
I was only playing quickplay and boy the matchup there sucks. But when I joined the normal contracts I fell in love with the game.
I hope I can buy a new PC with a good graphic card soon to play this game on high quality lol.

You know, I'm fifteen, I got a little job at our neighbors for the entire summer. I cut their quite big lawn every week over the course of two days (usually on Friday and Saturday), my point being, I'll be able to get just enough money to get this game by the end of summer break, and this guy convinced me that this isn't warzone with a dark green filter but something totally unique! (That I could also play with my friend!)
Played for a year and was absolutely entrapped by this game, but honestly, after the matchmaking g update my experience went to the gutter, constant headshots out of nowhere playing against 8.5 KDA players, just no more fun, one day I booted it up and realized I wasn't having fun anymore. Hope they can fix the matchmaking
I can't think anymore that sound design in hunt is some kind of unique selling feature.
Rather I came to think that it's a standard, and if you don't meet it - your sound design is garbage.
Needless to say, not a lot of games meet it.

I love Hunt. I have just shy of a thousand hours in it, but the elo ranking and how you are ranked is a major problem in this game. When you have a PVP shooter that does not have KDA be a major factor for the elo, you get people that just take advantage of this.
I really am sick of seeing me, a .98 kda, apparently in the same elo and "equal skill" as a dude that has a 1.90, because reasons.......
Hunt unfortunately also has many issues and it had many of them for a long time.
Here is some info so you can choose if you wanna buy it after you heard the good the bad and the ugly:
I focus on negative info since 4FS focussed on the good stuff about hunt. :-)
It is lacking important features like a reconnect feature or ranked gameplay .
You cannot queue alone vs other solos, just solo vs teams if u want to play alone.
If you have a buddy you can queue vs duos or trios but you cannot search for a random partner if you dont wanna play 2 v 3.
Many criticize there is a hacker problem.
I encounter every single match (if I dont die within the first seconds of course) at least one bug. Many times it does not matter all too much, but sometimes I have a disadvantage, get disconnected or die directly or indirectly because of it.
There is no weapon "balancing" in the traditional sense: You have to pay for a loadout before playing. Striclty better weapons cost more from your pool of ingame currency. There are drawbacks and advantages but some weapons are strcitly better than others.
It is poorly optimized for Radeon cards (at least in my books, Vega 56 almost not playable).
The focus of Crytek seems to be Skins and cosmetics lately (instead of fixing bugs). It is true though that there is still content added to this game aswell. Soon a new map will come.

I recently started playing hunt again, and even convinced some friends to join me. We're all hooked to the game now. It really deserves more credit for the unique features and gameplay. Hunt even induces a type of tense gunfight feeling, without stress or rage. 10/10. If you can pick up the game, I'd highly suggest it!
Just picked this game up on PS. Stressful this game is stressful. I like it, i think it has a certain level of intrigue to it. The combination of pvp & pve is what makes this game stressful imo. I haven't played bounty hunt yet just quick, to get a feel for the game before I get stomped🤣. I'm still getting stomped though. I'm not a fan of Battle Royal games, but I have heard a lot of good things about it, & imo it's loosely battle royal at best. Can't wait to get good.
This is the hardest game I have ever played! but there`s nothing compared to the intense PVP-PVE fights, nothing... That feeling when you are inside a compound with the bounty and you listen to enemy players walking around the compound, looking for a stealth entrance, praying not to fall in a trap, that feeling is unique!
Wish I could return but the whole PvP system just ruins the horror survival experience for me. Your more afraid of facing other players than the monsters to put it bluntly. Wish they had a co-op mode with 2-4 players with enhanced enemies where the last one standing wins. Kinda like king of the hill or something like that. However proud of their work and don’t regret supporting them after all this time plus more power to whoever still plays it have fun.
The community is one of the best. I get ggs pretty much every game. There's those few toxic cod players, but they are ignorable. And still love this game. It's my go to. I just wish it had a few more rewards for reps. But the "running the gaunlet" is holding me over for now.

They need to add a new game mode, dont get me wrong new weapons, bosses, and maps is good but not enough for me. I would like a new game mode. Maybe something similar to what they originally planed back in 2014 or a bigger team based game like a 4v4 or 6v6 with the maps split and each team has a boss they have to protect, while trying to banish the opposite teams boss. They could keep the same mechanics of having to look for the clues then find the boss. But just like you, the enemy team knows where there clues r so they can booby trap them. Now what if they created a horde type mode, where you could of just start at the bounty and it was already banishing but all the adds on the map just start swarming you trying to prevent you from succeeding. The main problem with that in my opinion is they dont have enough adds in the game yet for that mode. They could add snakes, gators, hyenas, vultures etc. I feel like if they keep walking in this direction the game will slowly be forgotten.
Man i wish they'd allow 60fps on the next gen consoles. The "unfair advantage" argument holds no water, most players on pc are playing at completely different specs, yet in the same lobbies so why is it such a big no no for xbox sx and ps5 players to be in xbox one and ps4 lobbies?
New players: 4FS and Irregular Ace are the best YT content creators for getting a grasp on Hunt gameplay, strategy, weapon mechanics & in-game etiquette.
I stopped playing Hunt due to my PS4 not being able to handle graphic heavy games because of overheating :/ however im gonna get a ps5 very soon and im looking forward to getting back to it!
I think the point about sound really deserves highlighting because it's *intuitive*. It's not an exaggeration to say humans literally evolved to engage with this sort of sound, and in life the very act of listening and observing through sound what can't necessarily be seen is exciting - tense - and rewarding.
And it's just such a shame so many games don't make better use of that.
The way you present this video is really nice. Personally i bought hunt in 2020 but dropped it. This video made me jump back in the game just a few days ago.
So sad that this game isnt played in OCE as much as other regions. I've just started searching in US West and dealing with the 160 ping. Hope that OCE sees how good this game is!

The game is hard but rewarding,the world is beautiful,firefight is intense,weapons are cool and fun to use,i've put ~600h into Hunt and the only time i've taken a break from it is the cheater infestation right after the twitch drop event.
I dont know how it is in higher elo, but for my elo (i think mid to low mid) i feel like the matches are much more consistently fair. Ever since the match making change i almost never feel like i faced a team so damn good i never stood a chance. The vast majority of the matches feel very well balanced now for my potato butt, and has made it much more easier for my friends who tried Hunt in the past but got blasted away. Seriously now is such an fantastic time to play Hunt, pick the game up or if you are on the edge wait for a sale, Hunt Showdown usually goes on sale a few times each year.
The learning curve is way steeper then other game from blood line 1 to 15 i way loseing gun fights I should have won then I used the spark the single shot rifle and I love it so much I am on a wining streak and kill at least two people a match im blood rank 45 right now but I’m going for 100
