fly fishing a pristine Gloucestershire chalk stream
I was camping recently in Gloucestershire with the family, so i negotiated a couple of hours fishing the River Coln in Fairford - Спорт
So beautifully filmed. Lovely place. Beautiful fish.
Thanks man, I wish I had a few more hours... I was just starting to understand the river a bit..... it was a seriously beautiful river
Nice! The only time I fished there i saw a gentleman open the sliding glass door of his sitting room, bring up his rod, make a cast or two from inside the house, and catch his dinner! So jealous
It’s a lovely river…. Missed a really nice greyling……. I wish we had greyling in my river!
Lovely spot, I fished the the Coln nearly 30 years ago, it was tough going on the dry fly but I recall some nice trout and grayling on the bead head nymph! Very tranquil settling in a charming village. Nice vid too, nice one Guy (?) Dave Procter
Hi Dave, thanks for watching, i agree its a beautiful setting... i really needed several more hours to start to work things out properly on this river. thanks guy
Well negotiated. Lovely looking beat. Well done for shaking off the out of season grayling - I’m sure many others would have tried to land it and photo it 🙏😇😉
Exactly, you probably saw how I refused to strike and set the hook just incase of a grayling.
Out of interest, I posted this video on a trout lure group. Someone complained it wasn't lure fishing..... which got me thinking, because as far as I can see we are using artificial lures in flyfishing to catch fish? No?
@@theoccasionalangler6956 many but not all fly fishermen think they’re somehow superior or better than lure anglers so would never admit to their giant gold head nymph being a lure. Many lure anglers regard fly fishermen as dainty public school faeries so would never admit to wanting to be associated with one. Unfortunately there’s as many people building barriers as there are those trying to break them down
@@theoccasionalangler6956 now that's a new can of worms! I'm not sure how to define a lure, to most it's a spinner, plug or soft plastic, but to fly anglers it's also a fish imitating fly (snake, wooly bugger, viva etc etc) cast on fly tackle! Maybe if it caught on a dog knobbler your post would have been OK 🤣🤣
@@Fishwish inverted snobbery? Saying that, there's more all rounders such as yourself around than commonly thought. I'm in a fly fishing club and it's astonishing how many members come from match fishing and specimen hunting backgrounds. Trout and salmon magazine has a lot to answer for, bloody hardys, spey, tay, test etc.etc
I noticed on one of your vids you mentioned using a shakespeare agility fly rod, which is good, esp when a viewer looks up the price!
@@davidprocter1585 its a shame that flyfishing has that stigma.... with the popularity of ultralite and bfs fishing, flyfishing does often get overlooked
Great vid dude 🙌👌
Thanks mate, ive been chatting to some locals and looks like the bass have started to show up.... one of my neighbours had a 6lber a week back!
@@theoccasionalangler6956 hmmmmm bass time 🦾🦾🦾
Pretty country. Much Greener than California =)
This river is very beautiful, one of the nicest ive fished in the uk. The reason its so green is because it rains so.much in the uk (which isn't so nice)
@@theoccasionalangler6956 too much rain isn’t good either.
@@dwongwayvideos2023 i agree
If you had more time andwent further down stream to the ford you would have had more space for the cast and that area is usually pretty good. Next time you are up will take you along the river.
That would be great David, ill let you know next time I'm in the area
Think like a fish.....tough luck loosing that greyling...
I know, it would have been my first grayling in years (we don't have them in kent)
Wet your hands when holding fish, especially small valuable wild brown trout
It’s a shame that’s all you took from this video, of course I will take this on board, best guy
Wading NOT allowed !
That’s interesting , I wonder why they say “wading , although not essential will help you cover more of the water” in the rules…
