How did you get into digital mode. Have the same radio. With SIGNALINK. Don't see in the manual for this. At some point going to interface with my computer. Have all the cables. Been about 20 years. How things have changed 73 KQ4CD Paul
I've just bought a 1200,don't know much about it,how do you decode morse ?,do you need a board fitted or some kinda mod so you can decode or can you do it radio straight out the box ?
Just ordered one today with fft-1 board fitted from ml&sons should be here tomorrow, can't wait to play with it, will only be swl for now but may get my licence again (2e0 amc) if I feel the need, been out of the hobby for over 12-13 year so will be interesting to see how the equipment has moved on.
Thanks Steve, ive had a 590 and its a fine radio but very different in lots of ways. The 590 has a few problems with ALC spikes and the AGC never done its job correctly for me but a very hot receiver. The 1200 doesn't suffer with these..The roofing filters and NB in the 1200 actually work which makes a nice change..both are excellent radios and you would be please with either. More vids coming soon. M0WBK 73
I made this comment on your other video >>>>>>>I should mention that I know a few people that own the Yaesu FTdx1200 and after installing the FFT-1 and then doing the firmware updates they are having problems with the analog meter not working as it should. Even when I did the firmware updates on mine I immediately started having problems with the meter myself. It acts very sluggish, fluttery or jittery. Its not like when I first bought it. I did try and adjust the AGC in the menu with no change. We even did a master reset of the radio and programmed it manually and still have the same results....Hope nobody else has this problem...Like to find out how to fix this problem.
I just don't get the cw decode. Most new hams dont want any part of cw, and its not even a requirement any longer to obtain a ticket. So, if you dislike cw, why would you want to decode it just to read it? If you want to use cw, learn it, period! Yes the rig can copy 35 wpm but can the new ham copy even 5 wpm, not to mention sending? My opinion of course and everyone is entitled to one, but a cw decoder just encourages new hams to never learn cw. My two cents. Nice rig though, but i think since the prices have come down a bit, the ftdx 3000 is the better choice.
I disagree. As someone studying for my foundation exam (uk), and learning cw at the same time, I find being able to decode cw a big incentive to learning it properly. Looking up decoded callsigns and seeing where they're from gives me a reason to learn. Being able to compare what I think was sent with what the decode says is invaluable as a newcommer
Once you install the FFT-1 module , how do you switch on the decode mode? I tried [mode] but that did not work, still see the scope , how do you set RTTY or PSK decoding also?
I don't need the decode facility but I am truly impressed with the CW reception of an S1 signal and DNR switched off. Very low noise and minimal ringing. Does the DNR degrade CW? I've seen other rigs in which the noise reduction suppresses the rise and fall of CW tones. Thanks for a really helpful video, it's greatly appreciated. 73, Graham
G4VUX QRP hi and thanks for your comment. Degrading of the weak signal s with the DNR on is very slight compared to some othe radios I have in the shack. The 1200 is a nice little radio and shouldn't be overlooked. 73
Hi, is it able to decode cw just out of the box or does it need any external unit? And is it able to tx and receive even in psk 31 and 63 without pc or add on units? Thanks
Interesting video. I just ordered a used FTDX1200. I was thinking about getting the FFT1 but now I'm thinking I can save some money hi hi Thanks and 73! de KC2NEO

It does get easier, make sure you adjust WPM correctly and its not to bad . careful adjustment of RF gain helps.

Your right it does, but was just showing the function. I'm not a cw operator at the moment so thanks for the info..M0WBK
I've noticed you have reviewed this and the 590. In your opinion, which one did you prefer?

I used to do it by ears ( 2 of them ! ) and haves no problems... hi ( 73 PP5VX )

What do you mean by 'hot reciever'?
Very helpful intro - just took delivery of a great condx ftdx1200 and learning the ropes - Cheers Steve 73 Rob G1VXD
It does not appear that you have pushed your CONT/APF Button to clear up the CW

You need fft-1 module fitted in radio for decode and af scope. Dont know about psk as its not my thing..thanks.73.
This is why it's better to read it with decoder number one.. The brain! Nice radio, sad it's no longer made.

LOL, totally useless feature, if do not know CW just go with SSB

Youll probably find with CW the decode will work better at 500hz. Thanks for the video. Gareth de2e0bkw

Strange how you introduce yourself as a 2E0WBK but the video is a person with a M0WBK callsign. So who are you really?
. Intermediate license then advanced license
@No Say. I like the 590g more but there's nothing in it really. Both are very nice radios.
M0WBK Reviews I ended up with the 3000. I'm still getting my head round it. Wish I'd kept my 1000mp to be perfectly honest.
good videos but does it get easier the more u use it i installed it 2 days ago and im about to rip my hair out

There is an FFT-1 card on Ebay right now for $149.99.

I will be buying the ft1200 next week, is the decode a part of the radio? or an add-on or mod?
Add on...You have to buy the FFT-1 and install it.
what does lvl do in CW? cant find in manual
Riveting...
Works nice.
Best decoder is your ear
What are all the 'E' s coming up? I have the same???!!!
its just not decoding correctly. make adjustments and it's not bad at all. Or learn CW. lol.
