The big brown truck is bringing my Yaesu FTDX-101D today and this video is a tremendous help going into setup. My WQPlus and Equalizer are set up for a Flex 6500 so I may have to tweak the settings a little to minimize changes to the equalizer between using the two radios. I also have the Heiul PR-40 microphone so this was like a custom guide for me. Thanks for the great video!

Great video! I'm glad you did this one and am greatly pleased you receive good audio reports with the PR40 with close to stock radio menu settings. This attests to the wonderful design of the radio's parametric equalizers.
I use the Heil Gold Elite microphone and a Heil Pro Set with the HC4 and 5 cartridges with the settings provided on the Heil web site and receive fantastic on-air audio reports. Yesterday, I did order the 2 band W2IHY equalizer just for the noise gate option because I use a Henry 2KD Classic and the blower can be heard as well as the Ramsond split/ductless AS/heat pump in the background. One station did come on the air and comment on the great audio, but also asked me which Henry amplifier I was using because he could hear the blower in the background. Luckily, he was using the 2 band equalizer and also had a Henry amp. He took time and demonstrated the noise gate option, and then the base and treble option on the air. The noise gate and bass.treble options of the W2IHY 2 band equalizer made a great deal of difference in the transmitted audio from his Heil Gold Elite microphone with the same menu settings that I was using.
Please keep up the good work with the videos on this really wonderful radio!
    V/R
    Buck

I added a PR40 about 3 weeks ago, and this particular microphone coupled with this radio's parametric equalizer and the W2IHY equipment makes a really phenomenal sound combination. On FM it really sounds studio quality, and approaches it on SSB from all the reports I receive. Gordini, we need to see a video on AM voice setup next! Keep up the great work!

Buck you have made a good choice getting the PR-40. Coupled with the W2IHY and the ftdx1200 will give great result for sure..
Haven't done any AM voice work but as soon as I have I will post a vid up.

@softrocktw, the eq in the 1200 is very good but if you want a little more control the W2IHY gives that but it's not needed for good audio.Even the standard microphone gives very good results.

I installed my W2IHY 2 band equalizer yesterday. I bought that version for the noise gate option because of the noisy blower fan on my Henry 2KD Classic. It was well worth the investment for a W2IHY product. After a short period adjusting both the noise gate and the 2 band equalizer and listening to it on the FT-DX1200 Moni feature and one of my FT-897D's with a Heil headset, the on the air reports with my Heil Gold Elite were "studio quality" sound. If anyone out there is thinking of buying a product that Julius, W2IHY, makes, don't worry, it will be money well spent.

Hi, great videos! What would you recommend as I am looking for my first rig. I am wondering whether to go for an older model like a yaesu ft950 or a new one like the ftdx1200 or a kenwood ts590sg.
Would you say one is better than another?
I have also considered the ft991 to cover more bands but I don't know if it's receiver is worse than the 1200 since it covers more bands... What would you recommend?
    Kind regards
    Simon

Thanks very much...I have the FT-3000 and W2IHY 8 bander but have bad hearing and cant tune things. Your settings helped me out and I am getting very nice reports on audio with the PR40. Appreciate it! Paul out of California. Are you still into radio or have you put it on hold with waning conditions? Enjoy your vids. Nice and clear and concise.

Very good series of videos..especially for the people whose English in not their native tongue..wonder the built in TX equalizer wont do the job properly so you have
to connect an outboard equalizer ?

Hello, Good data points on the settings. Enjoy your vid's. Can you fill us in on a couple other key tie in's to your setup? Microphone...I assume your PR-40, Do you run the radio and W2IHY with radio processor engaged or not, I've also heard guys saying to turn the onboard EQ "off" and only use the W2IHY EQ, and lastly how does your driven audio look on the built in FFt-1 audio scope with monitor enabled. I assume you know you can image and water fall plot your out going audio. Also, if you ever figure out how to increase the gain on the spectrum scope let us know as no menu adjust unlike the audio scope db adjustment. I have the FT-3K BTW. 73's

There was a trial-and-error on your transceiver or were you able to get that information from the auto box. Same radio mike 10 from Neil hm10

there is PRMTC EQ1, 2 and 3. additionaly there is P-PRMTC EQ1, 2 and 3. (notice the extra P) Does that mean these EQ parameters are all double ?? if yes, then the ftdx1200 has a build in 6 band parametric equalizer with variable frequencies but then i find it strange that yaesu says on their homepage the ftdx1200 (same as the ftdx3000d) has (only) a 3 band equalizer.
beside that, i find it great that even the EQ bandwidth for each EQ-parameter is adjustable, with that a very well suited adjustment to the speakers voice should be possible. how wide is the bandwidth of each EQ parameter ?
im thinking about buying a FTDX1200 and would like to hear a recording of that setting.

Yaesu's have 2 sets of 3 band parametric equalisers. One set for when the Processor is OFF (PRMTRC) and another (P-PRMTRC) when the processor is ON. The radio uses one or the other, not both simultaneously.
Please note: Yaesu's bandwidth (BW) settings are actually "Q" NOT 3dB bandwidth. The menus and handbook are confusing and wrong.
Increasing settings for BWTH (higher Q) result in a NARROWER effect, NOT wider as seems obvious.
Note also that if you set the "LEVEL" of any section to "0", then both the BWTH and FREQ settings are irrelevant.

It's unusual to require bass boost on an Amateur SSB TX, quite the opposite normally so may I ask what are your settings for TX bandwidth?

Awesome. Another trick: To wide the transmittion bandwidth in FTDX-1200 and FTDX-3000 is simple... Press the CS and TXW button and hold. Then turn on the radio. Now in the menu #104 you will have TTBF instead of 3000WB. If you select TTBF you will have 4khz of transmission. 73 my friends.

does the equalizer menue show 50Hz and 4000Hz ?
(those 2 frequencies should be the lowest and highest transmitted frequencies in that 4KHz bandwidth)

    • @PY2ECM
      @PY2ECM 9 років тому

Martin Luther No. Still the same frequencies. But in TTBF the radio can transmit with 4khz BW

thanks for answer. that means an external equalizer is necessary, to get to the lowest and highest tones. i have other questions on the ftdx1200 eq, if you look above on this page.

If anyone comes across a method to place an audio file (.wav, mpeg, MP3, etc.) directly onto the DVS-6 module using the RS232 port and WITHOUT using a speaker to record it through the microphone, please post how to do it and let me know. There must be a way to hack into the DVS-6 via the RS232 and place a file onto the recorder without having to go through the microphone.

8 minutes wasted. Absolutely NO information about the FTDX1200 EQ settings. "Here they are guys, mine are all set at the defaults" .. because I have no idea what they do, I use an outboard equalizer.
