    You know what I love about pottery? Everyone has the same material, there's nothing upgraded or fancy. And every individual manages them in their own way to create. There is no right or wrong way to play with clay :))

      So true! It is a great kind of art too. Created accordingly to each one's personality, taste and preferences. And because it is handmade each piece is unique, there is no two of the same. Thanks for your comment! ❤️

      @@cjgaming5544 but it's just clay and most people use the generic one. The ones that are not that cheap, they still work like the generic one. It's like paint, people may manage them in different ways, but it's still paint. Because you have something fancier, does not mean your result will be better. Everything is on the artist and the technique that works for them.

    Hello, thanks for the beautiful video. is this all in one process or do you do the paddle slapping & trimming one it has dried a little?

    • @yukiceramics
      @yukiceramics  3 роки тому +3

      For the slapping and trimming the clay needs to be more firm, and not sticking to the touch (leather). If it is too soft it will be more difficult to shape it. So you might need to let it dry a little bit before that. It also depends on your environment humidity. Hope that helps!

    • @yukiceramics
      @yukiceramics  4 місяці тому

      Two firing stages: bisque firing and glaze firing. Bisque firing is the first stage, where the clay is fired at a lower temperature to harden it, making it easier to handle for glazing. The second stage is glaze firing, where the glaze applied to the bisque-fired piece is melted and fused to the surface at a higher temperature.

    How you make this clay soft

    • @yukiceramics
      @yukiceramics  5 місяців тому

      Hi, Usually, I wedged the clay well. If it is too hard and dry, I moisten it. If it's very dry, I put the clay in a bag, add water, and wait for the clay to absorb it. Depending on the amount, this can take a few days, and I turn the package since the water settles at the bottom. Alternatively, if you have a bucket, you can do the same process, tightly seal the bag, and immerse it in a bucket full of water (this way, you don't need to keep turning the bag with the clay). If the clay is only a bit dry, you can cover it with a wet old towel, then place it in a bag and leave it for a while until the clay absorbs the water from the towel.

    My clay keeps drying out whenever I try to do it this way 😕 I am always smoothing over the cracks and the thickness is then uneven.

    • @yukiceramics
      @yukiceramics  3 роки тому +6

      That might be because of many different reasons. You could try a few different things:
      1- wedging more for a more uniform clay
      2- start out with a softer clay (slightly more water in it) if your environment is too dry
      3- apply less pressure when smoothing out the surface (using your fingertips only)
      Hope this helps!

      @Lyddiebits 3 роки тому +4

      Keep practicing, use water on your fingertips to smooth cracks, and go gently. Don't push or mash, small, gentle movement with clay💜

    Hello! What kind of clay did you use? I’m new to pottery and need help. I want to hand make plates and cups. And if I make small bakeware do I need to use different kind of clay so it can be oven safe?

    • @yukiceramics
      @yukiceramics  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! I use a stoneware clay from a local pottery studio. You can ask at your pottery shop if it is oven safe. In general, medium and high fire clays are usually suitable for oven use. But certain clays are more indicated for that! Hope that helps! Good luck!
