Kuerten's career being cut short was a massive loss to tennis i believe he was capable of being number one for a spell even in the Federer Nadal era he had so much talent and he loved it so much he would have played for years seems like a good man aswell

Yes. People don't remember how amazing Kuerten was. He was just figuring out how to win on hardcourt and entering what should have been his peak when injured at 24 years old. The last glimpse of that talent we got was 2004 French Open vs Federer when he dismantled a peak Federer. His top level of play was as good as any of the big 3 on their best days. I'm sure he would have held 1-2 Frenches from Nadal and 1-2 hardcourt majors from Fed. He would have been way past prime for Djokovic as he is 5 years older than Fed even, though. It is definitely one of the biggest "what ifs" and great losses for tennis. Now, it seems like many don't even remember him, especially since he has not won the French in an era that it wasn't really given the same limelight as the USO or Wimbledon outside of Europe.

Kuerten was a very good player capable of beating anyone on a given day, but to sober up the vapid fanboys. Agassi was 7-4 against Kuerten. In fact 3 of Kuerten’s wins - the first 2 times they met were in Agassi’s career bottom 97/98 - the meth period lol. After that, this was guga’s one of only 2 wins he had.

    Pelé (Futebol)
    Senna (F1)
    Guga (Tênis)

I'll never forget this one. Its similar to the way Zverev won in the sense that it was mission impossible to first win your semi and then if you survive that you hit a brick wall in the final anyway. But where there's a will there's a way and Kuerten did the unthinkable to beat those 2 guys on a hard court like that. His triumph here sticks out to me more than anyone else's in the history of the game and is probably on par with Zverevs amazing end of year win.Except the fact that Kuerton(like Rafa a clay court specialist) wasn't as talented as Zverev but pulled it off against Sampras and Agassi who were 2 giants of tennis at the time. although afterwards he did admit to really going for his shots due to some sort of injury he was carrying as i recall. Special.

If i could pick one dream match out of all the amazing possibilities it would have to be Kuerten vs Nadal French Open final both around 23 years old i think Nadal's defence would probably edge it but who knows i just can't see anything less than a absolute classic 5 set battle i know Nadal's record is far more impressive but neither man has ever lost a French open final

phil thompson I think Guga would had achieved so much more without his hip injuries. I’m a big Nadal fan, but also Brazilian... i started to cheer for Nadal two years after Kuerten’s retirement. Clay court specialist’s, physical players and so much heart in every play... Without the injuries i think would be very close.

@@fmkkshi i'm not a fan of any particular player i just call it like i see it and Kuerten was one of the most gifted players i have seen since i started watching tennis in the mid eighties
