That Knicks-Rockets trade is hellacious for both sides. Randle has excellent chemistry with the Knicks core of players and exchanging him for Smith Jr. would make the team considerably worse. Meanwhile, the Rockets sacrificing their top 3 draft pick from 3 years ago (who’s playing decently) for a guy who’s not on their timeline and can’t realistically be a #1 option is just braindead.
Randall's trade package looks like he is a near all star lock every year caliber or damn close for the Rockets to give up that much for him. He is good to have but with his contract it's a bad trade unless a first goes with Randell due to the cap hit.

In the short term, I think Chet is already going to play a lot more PF this coming season next to IHart, likely 12+ mins per game and they will split the Center mins otherwise. My only comment on the scenario you mention if this goes through, is you'd actually have JWil play the backup PF role a lot if this happens, and both Chet/Lauri would play small ball 5 on occasion with 4 guards. You'd have a similar situation to the Wolves where you have 3 bigs in Lauri/Chet/IHart that share 2 positions and all play 25+ mins.

The Knicks very clearly are not trading Randle and his fit with Brunson and OG was phenomenal last season. Only going to be even better with another long distance shot creator in Bridges. Randle is disgustingly undervalued on the open market yet contributes like an all-NBA talent in NY. No reason to sell low.
