Chris Stapleton is a soul man!!! This song played for years on my Pandora and I loved it. Then a little over a year ago this song popped up on my youtube. I didn't realize how many of his songs have been on my Pandora Blues and Jazz stations and it was him and I've loved this man's music and the emotion and soul he puts into his songs.
This song was a spur of the moment thing. From the "Taste of Country" website --- The song took on a life of its own when producer Dave Cobb started playing a riff in the studio, with the other musicians following suit. "I [Chris] said 'Guys, just keep playing that, I'm gonna figure out something to sing on top of this,' Stapleton explains. "And that's how that song came to pass. Those are the moments that you get when you're in the studio that you don't get anywhere else." Not too shabby for something done on the spot, eh? Raw, unbridled, gritty, impassioned ... that's where Chris Stapleton gets his mail.
this whole album is 🔥. as for the genre... my friend from Arkansas that got me into Chris Stapleton called his music "Rebel Rock". I told him I wasn't really into country but really liked Southern Rock... So, he recommended Chris.
You can visualize it. Everybody's scenario is a little different but those screachy touches paint the picture that you can see in your mind of what this man is seeing and feeling being on death row. It's amazing.
He is so good; must we file him into a particular genre when he can obviously cross into something beyond just country? Coming from a country fan, that's something. Great song, great musician, great reaction!
This is one of the few Chris Stapleton songs I prefer the studio version over live. And it's exactly because of what you said about all those little sounds that give you the atmosphere of death row. I find those are not as prominent when he sings it live and it adds a lot. Of course, vocally? He's as good if not better live, but I really love those little musical touches that honestly kind of creep me out.
I’m following you now and, thank you for mostly staying in the song without really interrupting. I love Chris and glad to see you digging him too brother👍
Have you listened to the music he did when he was with a band called. The Steeldrivers? If not, you should. It’s more Bluegrass based. A couple of favorites from that album from 2009 are “Sticks That Made Thunder” and “Drinkin’ Dark Whiskey”. But there are so many other good songs on there as well.
This man has me considering the possibility of reincarnation. If anyone has been here before, from the same region, it’s him. He sings with the pain of a Great Depression sharecropper.
Chris really is the truth. He releases masterpiece after masterpiece and is not really boxed in any genre. Having said that, if we are playing Dave Chapels racial draft we keep Chris. He’s our franchise player. No trade talks will be held concerning him.
As always an amazing reaction. Please give Allen Stone a reaction. Similar greatness on a different vocal spectrum. Give you blue - Live Acoustic, Unaware -From His Mothers Living Room , 5 minutes . All give me same feelings as when I listen to a Stapleton song.
He is considered a country singer because the other radio stations won’t play his stuff.? There’s hip hop, hip hop, top 40, trash 40, rock, and contemporary Christian. Then country scoops everybody else up and gives them a seat at the table. You wanna do blues? Sure. You wanna sound like the Eagles, cool! You wanna do folk. Come on in. You wanna do bluegrass that’s awesome. You wanna do rap that isn’t full of cussing and killing being nasty? Sure we’ll play it. Basically country is todays REAL top 40.
I love lyrics too, but ever notice Chris is more often than not, writing and singing of Loss, Good voice but always singing lost love or with this, Life.
Mama Coral I love you and Micheal too but you got to understand y'all done me wrong so many times and I know so much ....and if I can't hurt and be upset over you thinking I'm a dollar sign to you if I fuck up which you and the girl I've got a kid with wanted so bad...
More loving social-concious stuff and less right-wing B.S. propaganda stuff, please. Tom McDonald and such are crap. Pleae leave them behind in favor of truth.
One of my favourite tracks by Chris ❤
I saw an interview where Chris said "There's only two types of music, good music, and bad music " . That I found profound
The beat in this one makes me think of the prisoners shuffling down the hall with ankle chains on.
"Chris Stapleton is a perfect being"
Basically ❤

My favorite Chris Stapleton song 🔥
The funk and the stank he gives on that guitar is hands down the best!!!!
Chris IS one of the GREATEST SANGERS OF ALL TIME.
Like you said, he's basically his own genre. If you had to label it, I think it's almost more blues than country, I guess a combo of both.
this has always been my favorite song and it so underrated
These are lyrics that absolutely PAINT A PICTURE
"Chris Stapleton is a perfect being." TRUTH
he must be protected at all cost
how this man continues to add more and more amazing songs to his repertoire !!! makes me feel I'm in the cell next to him
MrLBoyd is going to ROCK this song in the Jeep!
Jazz/blues all the way! Sit back, sip your whiskey, and embrace the sadness.
Get over it, take your aspirin, and go to work. Keep on keepin’ on.
Great reaction! Chris Stapleton is my favorite artist… Took my wife to his concert for anniversary… It’s deep bro😅
He started as a country singer but now he's a blues singer in my opinion
Finally someone dose Death Row. I think it's his best song.
One of his best!!

We all knew the vocals would be amazing, the music is awesome!
The vibe is great, I too could listen to this for hours.

Chris Stapleton used to be in a southern rock band called the Jompson Brothers, and it’s worth a listen.

Enjoyed very much watching you experience this staggering piece of music.
The rhythm feels like he is walking down the hall, it's time to go. Death row.
That was perfection!
Absolutely Awesome ❤️🔥
This has long been one of my favorite CS songs but it goes pretty under appreciated a lot of the time
I can’t believe you don’t have more likes to this! Dang!
I haven’t heard many songs set the scene for a piece with just the music like this one does
Best reaction from my favorite reactor.

Check out Chris Stapleton‘s ballad. HiGher, which may be a self title because he keeps reaching higher on the notes.
I'd like to see specifically this type of content
In this country today everybody feels they are on death row

What is the going rate for a song request?
Yeah, there’s nothing country about this song it feels all blues to me, but he has a country twang I guess
