A big thanks to Ross and the team at www.southern4wd.co.nz
The gearbox is a W50. The engine is a Toyota B (3ltr 4cyl Diesel)
I've removed several Landy gear/transfer boxes & always take out the floor & seat box. tie the doors forward & use a crane, (rental), to lift it out the door. No crawling around required. In my younger days I lifted one out with a rope over my shoulders & carried the bloody thing out of my carport.
I've got no mates and struggle by myself , also keep forgetting to video if for my weak channel 😅
Terrific video, very enjoyable. Land Rover, making ordinary men into mechanics for decades. Keep up the great work.
Good job. I've got a Toyota box with no fifth gear as well. maybe a weak point to those boxes.
I'm no mechanic I'm also a hobbyist and i find the best way to learn something is to do it. My first major mechanical job I did was replacing the head gasket on my g60 patrol but there is always something to learn when doing things with old vehicles. Not many people show things like this when they are not a professional but its always interesting to watch people learn how their vehicles work.
These 4WDs make a person mechanic 😂
I had a LWB Series 2 with the old Holden V8 coupled to a Nissan gearbox. Like the idiot I am, I sold it and the guy who bought it wrecked the Landy and kept the engine and gearbox for another project. Well done on the repairs - it was great to see as much as you have presented. Ex Chch guy here, too, living in Canberra.
Nice job. Good on you for getting in and having a go. That's the first time I've seen inside a land rover transfer case. Thanks for sharing.
Good video. Entertaining and informative as usual. Have taken gearbox/transfer box out of my 110 ffr several times on my own. Not an easy task. But extremely satisfying once completed. Next time it will be easier! now go and enjoy!
Nice one Hayden! Maybe one day I'll have a crack at tinkering with gearboxes.
A piece of removable Flex Pipe should get used for that exhaust . Or simply re-route it .
Awesome job Hayden. Good on you doing so much of the work yourself 👌🤙
Hi Hayden, glad to see all went well with the gearbox repair, can't wait for your next drive around the bedt countryside in the world, best regards from a ex ChCh lad now living in Melbourne, PS: That didn't sound too noisy, Les
Well done mate. Great effort 👌
Good video, would like to say its the first time I've seen moving ground through the footwells of a land rover but 😬
Great work on this. All of my big mechanic projects (and learning!) happened on Land Rover products. But not Toyota products on a landrover. That’s a bit less common I reckon.
Wreckanic is the technical name I use.
Good Evening Mate.. Thoroughly enjoyed this video as do I the rest of them... I too had to strip and rebuild my Series 2 Land Rover gear box... Had no Bloody clue what I was doing as I too am not a Mechanics Backside...😂😂
Felicitaciones!
Thanks for the video Hayden! I've always been interested in how your Celica? gearbox was coupled to the Toyota B Diesel and Landrover series Transfer and this video answers all those questions! From what i could see with lots of pausing, its a Landrover input gear with the splines milled out and the centre of a Toyota Input gear pressed and welded in place? Then a custom made rear mainshaft bearing housing? Gearbox Crossmember looks very neat
