If you're new to my channel and videos, Hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make weekly "comedy" videos every Sunday evening. As an American living in London I love noticing the funny differences between the cultures and one of my most popular video series is my British VS American one. I'm also known for making terrible puns so sorry in advance. Hope to see you around, and I'll see you next Sunday! :)

Sharla in Japan my two fav your tubes met up - this is so good!!
"no guns in the uk and japan and NO ONE GETS SHOT! WHATS UP WITH THAT?!"
honestly as an actual american i think this is my favorite quote ever
megan jones 😂😂😂
megan jones Except that the US isn't a freaking Island like the UK and Japan. Also many crime related incidents on the US are done by illegal guns which are untraceable that's why you never see mass jailing of gangs or criminal organizations which perpetuate the killings by tracking the serial number.
This is why I hate liberals, They take our bill of rights for granted. Trump needs to trade, Liberals get out and we bring out Europeans that want some freedoms they don't have and aren't so deep with the handout entitlement.
C'mon I like guns they are fun to shoot
Japan has lowest crime rate among major countries today..
in 2017or 2016, just 1 victim was related to guns in the Nation.
masaharu aiba Mainly because they are mostly a homogeneous society. If you look at the stats, the more homogeneous a country is, the less crime there are. Besides, they have one of the highest suicide rates in the entire world.
"The ride was popcorn..." Omg 😂😂😂
I would love to visit Japan someday, but those queues look unbearable. Especially for an impatient American like me haha.
I live in Germany and plan on moving to the UK this summer 😊
Loved this 💖
STEVE AND JODI'S VLOG Don't come to the UK either then 😂
Rosa Aziz I've been to the UK 3 times and plan on moving there 😂
STEVE AND JODI'S VLOG I went to Japan last year and went to Disneyland and the lines weren't that bad. The longest line was 40-50 minutes without a fast pass.
STEVE AND JODI'S VLOG didn't know you watched Evan, Jodi... guess I should have known

Why do Americans say caramel like carmel
Froggy Boy Not all. Depends on who you ask.
ginavstheworld because it's Carmel
It depends where you live in the US. Not everyone says it that way, although that is the way I say it.
As an American, idk. But one time a friend of mine said I sounded "pretentious" for pronouncing the second "a" in caramel. :|
Froggy Boy depends on where you love in the US. I say caramel, which is obviously right
anyone else notice the girl in the background on the bed with the laptop who DOSN'T MOVE. ANYONE ELSE OR JUST ME...
for the fist section of the video
its dodie
wildgirl it's dodie
Connie looks like shes the one that lived in Japan for 10 years instead of Sharla lol
Can we talk about how cute dodies brother is though
I feel like you basically just focus on London, which is not representative of the rest of the UK, like everyone in Yorkshire chats on a bus, it doesn't mean we're drunk! We're just friendlier than grumpy Londoners :P
TheDemonOzzy same, I'm from SW England and everyone is always friendly, you'll always get random people referring to you as 'my love' or whatever
TheDemonOzzy people chat on the bus in Yorkshire?! Are you in north or South Yorkshire cause you aren't in the west, considering Bradford and Leeds are in west and we'd rather punch the twat on the back
Haha I have lived in both west and north yorks, people are friendly in both in my experience
TheDemonOzzy Also in london, we do talk to eachother 😂 normally when others have dogs we just instantly become friends 😂😂
I live in Manchester, we just air each other lol unless they're asking for directions or smth
literally just been watching your other british vs america videos
Woohoo!
1:50 "So Ireland" I'm actually crying I live in Belfast ahahhahaa
Oh my gosh it's sharla! I have been watching her for years! How nice you should finally cross paths :D
I literally figured out about her yesterday lol.
greenteawithbees SAME!!!
Did he just diss Ireland since Protestants and Catholics have a bad history?😂😂 2:00
Hannah Cooney and I got offended😂😂😂
Odhrán O'Shea same😂 I can tell you're Irish too since you have one of the most Irish names ever😂
Yep haha from Tipperary
I'm glad someone else noticed that! I'm Irish too!
Odhrán O'Shea lol, I'm from Cavan👍🏼
UK, US or Japan? I would have to say... Norway. It has been rated as the best country to live in twelve times by the UN and was rated to the happiest country this year :)
Sunniva Joø you know what yeah
Sunniva Joø hahah it's all a lie. no, but seriously i'm norwegian and those lists are most likely wrong. an alternative list came out that included what the people of the country thought and norwegian was like nr 10 or something.
Elinesof I don't think they are entirely wrong :) It just depends what they are measuring, but I guess there's some chance of the happiness-measure to be wrong, since it's just a group of people from each country and not the entire population.
However, I would say that our free healthcare and education help massively compared to other countries, no matter how it's rated.
Edit: In addition, it's not always a good thing including what people think of their country. For instance that Americans an North-Koreans are raised to be super patriotic and believe their country is better than all other countries, instead of knowing their strengths and weaknesses.
(Antar det ikke er så relevant for listene du så på, men synes likevel det er interessant :) )
Sunniva Joø I really want to visit Norway
Frances Ivy Awesome ^^ Norway in a nutshell: Stunning nature and ridiculously expensive
I used to watch Evan way WAY back in the day and it's so nice that he kept going with Yt and is doing so well.. ahhh so nice to randomly stumble upon your channel after all these years 😭
I wish I could be in one of these conversations. I love discussing and learning about the differences between various cultures.
I'm an american (upper-midwest-ish area), if you want to get a conversation going here! :]
Looking at your other comments, you're in Japan, right? We just need someone from England. :P
Babytherat oh cool! NOW RECRUITING ENGLISH PEOPLE!!!! Where do you live? Because I used to live in Ohio in elementary school
I live in Wisconsin. Land of cheese, beer, and calling water fountains "bubblers." :P
Lol I go to college in Wisconsin and have gotten "corrected" multiple times for calling them water fountains. (No hate, I love Wisconsinites)
'So Ireland...' 😂😂😂
ok, I really feel like it needs to be brought up that America does have tea, and no I don't mean the cold stuff with loads of sugar. We have the actual tea bags that you pour into a lil mug. It's just not super popular. Most of my friends drink the cold stuff and I'm the weird one who likes the hot stuff, which would ofc be the other way around in the UK. I just wanted to point that out lol cuz we got it. It's in stores and restaurants and stuff, it's just no one likes to drink it as much as the cold stuff around here. Also, it depends on where in the US cuz I've heard that in New England they don't have the cold stuff, which means they probs have the hot stuff. Wow I said stuff wayyyyyyyyy too much here lolol
we did talk about that
connie did
it's HORRID
// Keziah // did that require you writing an entire paragraph?
Llama Girl yes it did
Llama Girl wasn't really meaning too, im just very passionate about tea 😂😂😂
// Keziah // I think they meant that America has tea but it's not the same as British tea. Whenever I see tea that the Americans make it's always clear and dark brown (as if you're making coffee) and they always leave the tea bag in it. Do it like that and it will definately taste different. British tea is suppose to look a light brown (or a bit darker depending on how much milk you add) and no tea bag sat inside. Actually based on how clear American Tea is I'm guessig they don't add milk to theirs which creates the light brown colour??
I love how Connie is so engaged in the conversation. . .
My favorite people all together, thank you for this. You are amazing.
SHARLA MY BAEEE
I'm moving to Japan this summer to study at a language school! I'm from the US! I'm so excited!
This was a funny, entertaining, and informative video lol This was one of my favorite videos!!!
I love sharla and her channel so much!!! I'm so surprised and happy by this video
So for those that don't know, (i can't remember if she mentioned or not) but Sharla is from Canada. We're like a mix of aspects of the UK and the US.... but better... hahah!
SO HAPPY TO SEE SHARLA!!!

I loved this video so much. when i saw it in my sub box i got so excited that Evan, Connie and Sharla were all in one video. it was a great video

I know! It's so confusing omg
'Murica !!! I must go have a steak with my extra large diet Coke

jazmyn young 👏👏👏
jazmyn young you are first
That's cool! Didn't know you were in Japan! Have fun!
yup!
So prepared for this video! ❤️
I LOVE THESE SO MUCH
Not to be rude or anything but it's not really fair to base the whole of the UK off of what Connie, and sometimes Evan, say because they both live in London and have probably never ventured to other parts of the UK (just a guess, correct me if I'm wrong). So really they're only talking about London which is very different to the rest of the UK. It's kind of like someone who lives in Scotland and never leaves but does a video with a title that compares the UK and the US. But they're only representing Scotland. If they left Scotland and travelled to other places in the UK then you would have had a pass at doing a video like this. Because you've seen more than one part of the UK. I've seen it all the time from British People and foreigners who live in London (they're ALWAYS from London) and do these videos. Everything they said was what they experienced in London but they based the whole of the UK off of one place. Sorry if that sounded horrible I didn't mean for it to be but I just see this all the time and it really irks me. The whole of the UK doesn't have Black Taxi's. I've seen them in Manchester but we also havee normal cars that have Taxi logos stuck to them. 😕
baybeehannah19 they regularly go to other parts of the UK...they live in london but it doesnt mean they havent visited. Plus, black cabs are across the vast majority of the uk. They are public taxis. The normal cars are private cabs. They are different things. Private cabs cant be picked up on the st, you have to book them for insurance. They have them in London too... black cabs are just the specific UK cabs that other countries dont have!
same with the US, he lived in a small place out of ALL america. but he obviously can't get one person for every neighborhood in the US and UK
OMG THANK YOU! I’m from Blackpool and London is nothing like Blackpool lol
You should check out Being: Joel and Lia. They do videos comparing the US and UK and they live in London now but they’re not from London. The only thing I don’t like is their limited knowledge of the US and it can frustrate me being that I’m from the US.
In the same breath it's not fair to base your image of the u.s off of Evan because he is from south Jersey and has a unique experience based off the tri-state area
back at it again with those inappropriate jokes about Irish history that still happens to this day Evan :))))
Its so cool to see youtubers I watch in the same place! Especially Sharla since I never knew you guys knew her until recently. And I see Michaela in the background
This was so coooool! Going to America in November and then I can really compare for myself!
Their comments on American jobs and days off only really applies to minimum wage jobs in the retail or food service industries. I work a full time job in an office and have 7 paid holidays a year, and accumulate 10 hours of PTO every month up to 200 hours. And you don't lose it at the end of the year! 401K, profit-sharing. Seriously, don't trash American job benefits. In the right job, they rock!
KeriJo12 7 paid holidays for a f/t job doesn't sound like a lot. I work f/t in the UK and get 26 days off + public holidays. We also get paid time off for illness, paternity / maternity and other unexpected needs - plus government and employer pension contributions. I think overall workers in the UK have more benefits than the US and Japan. It's not the case with all jobs and workers but generally we have a good balance of work benefits and at least culturally a f/t job doesn't mean our lives are dominated by work, which is the norm in Japan.
I only work part time in the UK as I'm a student and still get 10 paid holidays.
You might as well look at averages and the average number of days of PTO in the US is 10 days or two weeks. Britain and Continental Europe average 4 to 6 weeks. 25% of Americans have zero PTO. 25% have less than 10 days. That's not just minimum wage jobs but many many jobs in the middle and lower middle class salary ranges. It IS a serious problem (I think) and a clear difference between Europe and US.
Some Brits call u 'love' or poppet.... im sorry but i gotta chose England 😀 Also Everyone there is very polite 😂😂 i do love japan and america too
You prob won't see this but I started watching you when you first started your channel (we were even mutual followers on my old channel!). After many years of not constantly being on youtube due to school, it's nice to come back and see you so successful!!!
I've been waiting for this😆
I've always been surprised how in USA people expect you to be independence by the age of 18. You just finished school and you have to have a car, live by your own, even have a job. In Chile, where i live, it's more kinda like Japan. most people live with their family until the get married (if they do it) and sometimes they continue living in the same house. I think one of the primary reasons is because its cheaper that way, all the people living in the house share the expenses (in theory) it's easier.makes sense , too, since the live in this country is quite expensive and the average population is on the middle class (middle lower actually)
Nowadays is a bit more common to see people around 25 or so to start living alone, leave their parents house an have their own independence, but at 18 no, not at all. Again, you just ended school by that age, you have no experience, no money. you cannot start a live without help from others.
I think that's more a white American thing. I'm not entirely sure other cultures, but asian american will often live with their parents into their 20's or even beyond that.
that's England we can already drink by 18 (americans its 21) as well but we can drive at 17 not 16.
Got outside New York and the public transportation is absolute shit. It's nasty, slow, and just not practical.
Public trans is fine in Chicago I don't know what you're talking about. Perhaps its not state-of-the-art but its ok.
A lot of people in Japan stay in their childhood home or move back after going to college to take care of their parents and to just inherit the house itself. My moms brother(my uncle) did that. At a time, there were four generations of people living in that house:my great grandmother, my grandparents, my aunt and uncle, and my cousins.
Yesssss Sharla!!!! Been wishing she would collab with Evan for ever!!!!!!
Who do you think won: Britain, America, Japan?
Japan cause Britain had brexit and america has trump
Saintmartine You can't win them all unfortunately haha
Easily UK for me because of the working culture - such a massive influence on life quality.
And Japan has Anime and Manga.
but Japan doesn't have gay marriage legalised...
Nina Kato not necessarily, some parts of japan has had gay marriage legalised such as shibuya which has taken a good step towards the lgbt community and ideals. I don't know too much about it though but I'm in japan at the moment and I am Japanese as my family. also, japan isn't as anti-gay as much as other countries so I believe it is very close to having the country, gay marriage legalised in a few more years :) (not to mention there is a LOT of yuri and yaoi ;))))))))
The New York subway is so bad if you live here lol. It really be dirty and rarely on time b. Track fires, signal malfunctions, sick passengers; always got me tight... It's deadass garbage b.
lmao truu. one time when i was taking the subway home from school i witnessed someone have a seizure in the seat across from me.
Love this video!! Looks like you had a great time in Japan! So jel! ❤
Sharla in an Evan Edinger video: the two halves of my world finally collide lol
Apparently in Japan you get judged/discriminated against even if you're half Japanese because of the 99% ethnicity thing
Waddup notification squad?!
LukeCutforthSmellsLikeMilk sup!
I'm not even part of the notification squad. I just never leave UA-cam
Sup
safiya tariq you're the most relatable person online, that I have ever heard of
This was really cute! Loved the topics you guys picked to talk about! My only comment is that I wish it had been left unedited or maybe just edited down a bit less, because you would get into a discussion and then the topic would suddenly change once I became interested! Otherwise really great vid and I hope Sharla visits the UK sometime 💫🎉🎎
ahhhHHH I love Sharla!! This video was super duper interesting, too!
When I saw Sharla in the thumbnail, I was like "WHAT??" Then it's really Sharla!!😍 いいですね。☆彡
what you said about tea is what Spanish, Italian, Latin American etc think about your coffee
I really want to go to Japan! This video actually made my day, I love your puns and you always make me happy watching you x 💖💖💖

OMG THREE OF MY FAVOURITE UA-camRS TOGETHER AHHHH
I think I would like to live in the UK
Reegan Mestre its grey and dreary the whole time...I cant wait to leave 😂 plus everyones always moaning (like me now), people dont talk to you etc.
Reegan Mestre and social justice is apparently large
Reegan Mestre
The weather is 90% of the time horrible.
Reegan Mestre if you're fine with rain and cold and people wishing for death because of Brexit
I bet Japan doesn't have a good FakeTaxi like we do in the UK hahahaha
Chris woo LOOOOOOOL
You have to see the kinds of DVD's in Japan. You wouldn't believe it.
Another great video!
I was so shocked to see Sharla on this! Been watching her for nearly 2 years now, it's amazing to see her make videos with the bigger UK youtubers :D
Why am I so early
Fyi Ireland didn't necessarily war over religion, it was about British occupancy and rule in the country. It just so happened that the majority of the native Irish looking for freedom were Catholics and the British or people who wanted British rule were Protestant
YES A VIDEO WITH CONNIE
WHOOOOOOO SHARLA AND EVAN MY NEW TWO FAVE UA-camRS. I'm a little happy XD
SOFT AND.... I'm sorry Evan I will just leave now
Emme P SOFT AND NEAT!
Emme P what the hell is soft and neat?!
Victoria Robertson dan and phil's new craft video. its being spread everywhere similar to "protip" or "dont cry craft"
^ so just go to every popular UA-camr's video and spam it lol
Ok but Japan is by far the best place out of these three. I'm half Japanese and I've been to Tokyo probably like ten times or something. Seriously, I know my way around Tokyo better than I know my way around the most well known city in my state, which I live only an hour away from. But seriously, Japan's subway system is amazing, everyone is so nice and polite, and it is so safe! Like, I have seen young children on their way home from school on the subway, alone! The traditional culture is still everywhere, and the food is the best. Gah, I love Japan so much! I may be a bit biased, but I don't care.
justafan17 really? It depends on what you want to focus on ..every country has issues and I consider myself blessed to live in the United States ..
Japan has a very high cost of living and an obscene work culture where one is expected to work til late at night ..plus they have one of the worst immigration policies in the world ..they do not like others to get citizenship extremely hard
Everyone has a personal preference but for me to complain about living in a first world country with relative freedom is asinine .ghere will always be someone who something better ...American doesn’t do healthcare well and our politics r concerning but watching brexit negotiates and the rise of the far right In Europe is also concerning ...
Grass is always greener on the other side ..
Didn’t Europe have two world wars in the last century ? I believe staying and making things better
i'm moving to the uk next year for university & i'm so excited ! also totally with connie on the american tea thing , it is either hot dirty tasting hot water or a bloody lipton ice tea bag . i have to go to world market to get tea bags lol . lovely video ! 💛
There’s so much culture shock here!! An American who lives in the UK, a Brit who’s a flaming weaboo (and we still love her), and a Canadian who lives in Japan
This is interesting. I like it 🤔
You know these videos always make me feel bad about america...I would like just one video about the good things about america. :(
Why does Evan say crepe so weird and I'm American 🙃
RazzleDazzleMunchin
Wait do you mean like crep or crape? Because crep is the British way of speaking lol
Yes! I've watched Sharla for YEARS!
I love how that one dude in the background was laying on his phone the whole time
Aha I live in England and I'm half English half Japanese and I go to Japan every summer so I get a mixture of English and Japanese culture 🙌🙌 My dad is British and my mum is Japanese
Also... 6:17 I can confirm Japan is better :D
sOFT ANd NEaT!

JMG787 your mum
*browsing through my subscriptions when* Oh, Evan uploaded a new vid-- IS THAT SHARLA??? IT IS!!!!
the fact they have great service is so true! I was looking at the display of matcha parfaits in japan at a shop yesterday and the lady standing at the front knew I was just looking but offered to help hahaha (she probably knew I was just looking cuz I was way out front and I'm very young without my parents who were at the bathroom sooo😆)
Why do British people get so heated about tea (pun intended)?? Like, it's just a drink. People in America tend to prefer it cold. Nothing else to it. (Just wanted to add that I'm asking this with all due respect to British people. I don't mean to be rude, I'm just confused)
Because the vast majority of people drink it at least some of the time, and so everyone develops a very strong opinion on what it should taste like. It's the same as how a lot of Americans and Canadians think bacon MUST be crispy, or that foreign McDonalds tastes worse because it has much less fat in it etc.
Crystal Walker I could say the same thing about that stuff British people try to pass off as lemonade
so what. lemonade was first invented in medieval egypt, way before carbonation was even a thing. Whatever, all I'm saying is people like different drinks differently and there's basically 0 reason to argue about it
Maybe not in places like mcdonalds or whatever, but good, american iced tea does contain tea (also it's mostly people in the south call it tea. I live in New Jersey and whenever someone says tea they are referring to hot tea. We normally call the cold stuff iced tea or sweet tea)
@TheDustyForest, I don't think I've ever heard an American say that America has the best McDonalds. They complain about how much it sucks here, actually.
But, I'll give you crispy bacon. Crispy is best bacon.
(Also I'm an American who loves hot tea and dislikes iced tea/sweet tea. I don't have an opinion about other people drinking it though. ;] )
S O F T A N D N E A T
