This is great timing. I just had one of those mornings where I drink some coffee and get a cool idea for a short story. Love seeing your editing process. Hope everyone has a great writing or non-writing weekend
The part where she's editing the short story with Covid content, the one where the guy just turned 40 and had just found his first gray hair, made me snicker a little. It reminded me of a post on Insta that i found where this teacher took pictures of the kids in her class writing about what it felt to be forty years old. I think one kid wrote something around the lines of, "I am 40. I am old and tired, and i use a cane and cannot walk up hills" something around those lines. Lol
really revealing the fact that although I just made a 31 minute video on line editing, I am actually *deeply* terrible at proofreading and never spot typos
Watching this as I proofread my novel excerpt for workshop. Having someone actively commenting on writing as you look over your own gives so many great tips on how to look at things objectively! You always come out with a video right when I'm in need; thanks again, Shae!
Shaelin, I enjoyed watching you edit these short stories and excerpts. I learned so much about how we can use prose as a tool to enhance the story. I loved the flash fiction story especially and I hope it gets published one day. I am currently writing a short story that I began yesterday. I love you
I would absolutely love if you started up this series again so much, it's helping me immensely with learning how I might line edit my current manuscript!
The "rule" about dashes at 4:37 doesn't hold for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and I like to keep this book as my guiding light for formatting. But I would still like to know where that rule came from! :)
hi! love your videos, I was wondering if you have some advice on different sentence structures, because I often feel like my writing gets repetitive with the noun+verb+other details every single time. thank you so much for this video :)
I would really like to take a course in grammar and copy-editing...would you recommend self-learning through books, or an online program...? Any recommendations?
This is so cool! Love your videos! I'm learning so much! I'm not native english, so writing is even more of a challenge. Can you recommend resources you used to learn how to line edit? Thank you!
@@ShaelinWrites oh wow, you took the time to respond, that's awesome. I've been watching writing videos all the time now and listening to them at work. They are helping me on my BL (gay) romance novel.
@/Shaelin for the story about Amber and scary story stuff, I think the first-person view is a thought. Maybe italize it will be a better suggestion...? :)
Sorry, I'm not able to take anymore at the moment! I did a call on my youtube community page a few months ago, but go enough submissions to do ten of these videos so I'm just working with those submissions for now.
@@ShaelinWrites haha! ;) you can do everything except copyedit ;);) That should be "set up" not "set-up". Second one is a noun. And you love verbs so much!

"I don't care for proofreading"

I do love the thumbnail typo, because if there is a video where it can exist, it is this.

I feel like I learn so much watching you edit. This really inspires me to step-up my verbs when I write ✨
I wrote my first short story. WOOHOO. been with shailen since 9 years old. Now I'm 12. Lol

Thank you, your edits added depth without massive verbiage. 🤗♥️
These videos are so great. I love this section of your channel

Thank you so much, this is so useful!! Please create another one---I'm even considering sending one of mine in! 😀
Wow, this is a valuable teaching video. Thank you! (Keeping an eye out for how to improve dialogue--my Achilles heel)

30 minutes of surgery and describe-as-I-dissect, with such tact and dexterity? Curious what's in that mug. Thanks so much for what you do.
it's just tea in the mug!
I love this book content.
I also find editing soothing.

What makes a short story scene different from a novel scene? I always feel like short story writing is an enigma.
"Then" is used instead of "so" etcétera. Is a word to express something is MORE IMPORTANT than some other thing that happend before on the story...
At 6:21 what did you mean by 'familiar'?
Familiar means it's a common phrase that might be cliche or just something that's been seen before.
@@ShaelinWrites Ah, I figured it might be, just wasn't sure. Thanks for the response.
I still remember the time
I feel like you could do these line edit videos as ASMR.
Will you make another line editing video?
Yes! They just take a long time to edit, and I've been a bit swamped with work so haven't had the time, but I do plan to make more!
@@ShaelinWrites oh wow, you took the time to respond, that's awesome. I've been watching writing videos all the time now and listening to them at work. They are helping me on my BL (gay) romance novel.

Hey, can I send a small short story for line editing? You can obviously get to it when you want to, if you even want to get to it.😅
💜
Do you edit professionally ?
Not at the moment, but maybe someday!

it's still in the editing phase so not yet, but hopefully someday when it's published!
Hi Shaelin
Do you do paid editing, or just freebies for the sake of content? Either way, I'm curious if you have info on this.
Not currently, but it's something I might set-up in the next couple of months!
