It’s amazing what having a crowd, behind you in a playoff game can do. Unlike that fake playoff game they played in 2021 at Heinz Field. No fans, no energy, and no comeback
The Browns' offensive coordinator in 2002 was Bruce Arians,, who went on to guide the Steelers offense to a Super Bowl victory. Both Arians and Holcomb had been in Indianapolis the previous year.
Bruce Arians the Browns Off. Co-Ord. (Tampas current HC), "No Riskit No Biskit" philosophy was in full display even this long ago, he hadn't even gone to the Steelers to coach Big Ben yet. Just look how many times the Browns threw it down field (20+) in the FFn Snow, exactly what he had Brady do last year.
Even as a Steelers fan I'm not totally mad about last year. The Browns outplayed the Steelers both games and prolly deserved to win them both. The Steelers had their window a couple years ago if Big Ben doesn't hurt his arm in the 2nd game, as that defense was Super Bowl caliber with Tuitt, Heyward, Watt and Dupree leading the way. I checked back, and with Ben at QB they win at least 4 more games and easily make the play-offs.

The biggest mistake in the game was the challenge of the TD w/ 3:46 remaining in the 3rd. If Cleveland had that timeout in the 4th, they would have had the opportunity to kick the game winner instead of the clock running out on them...
If Holcomb puts some zip to a running receiver who gets to the sideline quicker, leaving one second on the clock, then the Browns can try to tie the game. I noticed the pass was sort of more lobbed then zipped, and that cost maybe 2 crucial seconds. Hey, time is money is correct! But I agree with your main point. That challenge was very costly. lol! I actually missed this game working at my job. In fact, I never got to watch football on weekends because of my job, since it involved shopping during the holidays, and inventory in January. I had a VHS recorder, so I put the quality at best, and taped the last hour of the game, which was the best. I later bought the whole game on DVD from some dude online. Great game!
It's just a bad read from Kelly. He throws for Northcutt, and one of two things happens. One, defensive holding on the Steelers. Ticky tack call, but it deserves to be made. Two, Northcutt catches it, gets out of bounds, Dawson has 1 second to drill the kick.
This is football right here!!! Actual hard hitting ball man I miss it. A decent balanced o and a decent d could win games. Now football is basically a 7x7 but with 11 and wearing pads. Make football like this again!!! Like if you agree!!! MFBGA!!!
This game was overshadowed by the giants/49ers game later that day. The difference was that the Giants collapsed, here the Browns were on fire until the end.
This is the most Cleveland Browns game ever. False hope. Flashes of brilliance. Mismanagement of the clock and timeouts. Penalties. Dropped INT that would have sealed it. Ball goes thru Northcutt’s hands after a great performance. Coming up 1 second short. The promise of being better next year and building on this season turning into frustration and disappointment. Fans of Cleveland, I salute you 🫡 You’re all masochists but your unrivaled suffering will one day culminate in a Browns Super Bowl Championship 🏆 just as the dead rise 🧟♂️ and the apocalypse is upon us. 🏈
And as the bus handed the torch to ben, Ben hands it to Najee as he runs it into the end zone, soon to show Pickett that torches light... Let's go Steelers!
The week after this the Steelers went to Tennessee and would've/should've beaten them, but kicker Joe Nedny FLOPPED on a missed FG at the end of the game, got a BS penalty call and another try from 15 yards closer, and of course made it to win the game. He then joked about taking up an acting career after the game. Garbage.
I got to see that game live but I was sitting in the Browns Section. Those Browns fans were shocked at what happened. So was I as I didn't think the Steelers would come back from that.
Sims said it was okay to challenge a simple ten yard pass play because it was early in the game ….Steeler coach won the challenge …..and on the same drive the Brown were short on their touchdown …so Sims said it wasn’t okay to challenge a touchdown….no wonder Sims lost his job as lead analyst
Love him or hate him Butch Davis needed to be fired as GM . but not as coach if the Browns would have gotten a good GM that knew how to pick offensive lineman at that time we had a.decent pass protection line, but couldn't move a lunch box for the run.
The Steelers didn’t get to the Super Bowl that season, but they still had a better team than what they are now. And then, they were up and coming. These days, they’re a continuing downward spiral.
I’m a Saints fan and as it was great to beat Brady TWICE in the regular season, there was no way we were gonna beat them in playoffs.
