    I love fish rooms like this. So well designed and thought out, down to every detail. Not sure how many picked up on this, but he even had some of the tanks color coded with blue or pink, for the sex of the fish. I like how he runs separate smaller linear piston air pumps rather than one large. Very forward thinking. The water change system it so well thought out. Dedication is when you bust up a concrete floor to add floor drains. 😉👍 Also like the diversity of fish he collects and keeps. From Dovii to Guppies. Any idea what racking he was using? Big box retail racks or commercial racking? Didn’t see any 2x4 or 2x6 racking. Tours like this are so helpful to those of us who strive to improve our fish rooms.

    "You can have one tank and do a really good job with it. And, you should be proud of that too." That was my favorite thing that was pointed out in the video. I think that some folks see all of these fish rooms and jump in without having developed a very sound plan and end up disappointed, or worse yet, having fish that suffer. Not due to the lack of good intentions but rather ending up miscalculating the time and expense involved with many multiple tanks. A single tank made and maintained to your utmost.....as Rick said, "you should be proud of that too."

    this fishroom is really beautiful and well maintained. it's a nice job. I want to know what is the density of the foam used for the corner matten filter? 20 or 30 ppi? And thank you in advance.

    Hi Jason, I have a VERY general frozen food question... What are your top 2 or 3 frozen foods (bw, bs, mysis, cyclops, etc..?) that you feed to community-type fish in your fish room (ie. guppies, tetras, platys, corys, etc.....) or small cichlids? And how often?
    Thanks!

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  5 років тому +1

      I really only keep two on hand - frozen brine shrimp and frozen blood worms. Everything can have frozen brine shrimp and I feed blood worms to everything but my mbuna cichlids (blood worms you just have to make sure whatever fish you are keeping can digest the high protein content well). Some fish might get frozen foods every couple days, while others not as often. Just depends on their diets.

    Remember, I urged you to at least experiment with a corner Matten filter. I hope this guy convinces you to try one. Increased media area, good surface agitation, high flow with jet lifters, near silent operation, and you get rid of those ugly, ugly, ugly, sponge filters. Pardon my fixation and fetish.

    Rick gave a talk on goodeids a recent Louisville Tropical Fish Fanciers. He's the best presenter I've seen. He's funny and quick on wit. I'm glad to see his fish room. I think a lot of us aspire to have organization like he does, but if you noticed it was teamwork with his wife. Thanks for the video. It gives me a lot of ideas for my solo fish rack.

    Wait a cotton-pickin' minute! Just hold on there!! Fish rooms have floors???
    When I manage to pick up my jaw off what you call a floor, I'll have a comment. Wow. Wow. Wow.
    I much prefer this type of system over the generic water change system. I like LARGE water changes.
    That labeling system - oh my! And the feeding area contraption!! The redundancy on his systems is top notch.
    And I haven't even commented on all the amazing fish. I could write a whole book - or better yet - Rick should be writing a book! I would love details on his racks, his plumbing, every little invention he has incorporated into his fishroom. Just WOW!

    I'm in process of drilling several tanks for my fish room. i'm curious what be best location to put bulkheads in each?? Does it depend on where the tank is located, or to do with flow of water? kinda stumpted on this one..thx in adv...

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  5 років тому +2

      I'm probably not the best person to answer that question because I don't drill my tanks. However, what I typically see, if the tanks are facing forward, is a hole drill towards the bottom for drainage (location dependent upon setup) and another one closer to the top for overflow (with a pvc elbow facing towards the surface). Fresh water usually comes in from the other side if running auto water change.
