I've seen other videos but they had a different Kobalt model. You have my exact model and explained the process so well. Thank you!!!
Great! Thanks!
Excellent video, that’s my exact model I just got. The instruction manual was useless for this, so thank you for posting the vid!!
Thanks!!!
I just bought the 24v and this is the same for that and aligns with the newer string coil so thank you and for doing it at a good pace. Thank you.
You're welcome!
Excellent video! Couldn't make heads or tails with the manual, watching your video made it simple. Method #1 was the one for me. Thanks so much for making my day!
Thanks!
Thank you for teaching us how to replace the string. You made it easy. GOD bless you ❤️🙏
😁 Thanks!
Method #2 solved my problem. Gotta love the UA-cam community 🙌🏼. Thank you!!!
Great. Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing! It’s my go to video every time I’m have to change the trimmer line. Today is a good day as option one worked on the first try!
Awesome, glad to hear it! Thanks for the feedback!
THANK YOU MY UNIT WAS A PAIN TO REPLACE AND THE 2ND METHOD YOU SHOWED ME WORKED GREAT!!
Awesome!
Thank you for the vid because the manual doesn't explain things well at all. Doesn't even describe the "easy" version which makes it pointless. As a side note for anyone who is struggling to keep the spool tight while securing it, there are slots on the "top" of the spool that you can temp feed the string into to secure it, then slip it off and through the eyelit when ready to install.
👍👍
I am an 80 year old woman who has been gifted a Kobalt weedeater and have used it enough that the string was used up and needed new string.I followed your instruction video and was able to do it myself. Thank you.
That's fantastic! Thanks for the comment!
Thank you! I just about blew a gasket trying to figure it out myself.
Glad it helped!
This just saved my day. Thank you.
Great!
I gotta say what a great fucking video seriously no sarcasm at all I’ve been dealing with this damn weed eater for about 3 months now and it has given me trouble loading it every time excuse my cussing but sometimes cussing is necessary
👍😂
I’m a gal not a guy 🤪, but this was so helpful!! I thought I was going to have to get someone to change the string, but decided to look up a video and yours was the only one I needed to watch I DID IT! I’m so proud of myself! 😅 Thank you so much for the super informative video!!!
That's great! Glad I was able to give you a little boost so you could do it yourself!!!
I’m a lady as well and I’m goin in !! I’m gonna try it
👍👍
Know you gals what guys do. We don't know it all we just share our knowledge on UA-cam to help one another. ITS A MANS WORLD BUT IT WOULDN'T BE NOTHING WITH OUT THE LADIES 😜
Good video, that was very helpful.
Thanks!
Thanks alot. That was very helpful
🙂👍
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
YW!
Brilliant! You are a hero!
😁
thank you, nice demonstration reload the string..
Thanks!
Thank you, very helpful.
Thanks!
Super helpful! Thanks.
Great. Thanks.
very helpful - thank you
👍
Bro thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Thank you!
😁👍
Boy am I an IDIOT! I was going to take back my Edger until I really Watched this Video. Guess What? After Fooling around with this Thing for about a Week! I got it to Work. And it even Spits out new Line when you follow the Instructions. It took a while and LOADS of Anger, But Finally WORKS Correctly. Folloow the instruction, This Video Helped me LEARN!
We've all been there, believe me... 😁😁
Thank you for sharing this!
You're welcome!!
Bro thank you
YW!
Thank you
🙂👍
This is my second one. They work well, but the trimmer heads are god-awful.
Can I use 95 size
No. 0.080 is the thickest for this machine
Amen 😆
I've had the Kobalt 40v Trimmer for about a year and ever since I've had it I've found it difficult adding new line. Looking at the scant directions in the manual was of little help. Your video offered clear and concise directions which I quickly replicated. Thank you for posting this video.
You're welcome!!!
I agree.
I just got the book out and it was useless to me.
This helped a lot.
I absolutely hate these things and everytime i try to restring it, it makes me so mad. Ugh
Is there a way to replace the whole spool since they sell pre-strung spools or do you have to just re-string it?
I don't think this spool is intended to be replaced every time string runs out. Other trimmers have replacement spools but this is meant to be re-strung.
Kobalt’s instructions are horrible. There are NONE on the string replacement package. Super pain in the A. Hate my Kobalt now.
OH. MY. GOODNESS!!!!!!!!!!! The hours and hours and hours and money I have wasted trying to one find the replacement kit calling lowes calling kobalt pulling my hair. I had NO idea you can just use regular wire and twist it in. Customer service for kobalt didn't even know that. OH MY GOSH. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome. Glad this helped get you up and running again!!!
Hey man thanks so much. I’ve never done manual stuff, and your video literally guided me thru my first success story 😂
Great video
Awesome! Glad I was able to help! You're on your way to many future successes!!!
You are the Best HowTo for restringing this weed eater. Thank you for the Clear Instructions!!!
Thank you for the kind words and the Super Thanks! Much appreciated!
Thanks so much for this video! Showing how to restring with the video UP CLOSE was great. Thank you!
Great!
Couldn't use the 'easy' method because I still had string sticking out of one side. Low visibility made it hard to find the release detents. Amazing how much it helps to actually see something being done vs reading about it in a manual. Thanks!
YW!
🙂👍
I watched a different video which only had the first method and was about ready to give up on restringing my Kobalt because I didn’t have the wrist strength. Thank you so much for showing the second method!!
Great. And you're welcome!
Last year, I searched for how-to videos, but didn't really find anything helpful. Just searched today, and your video was first. THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED!! Both methods were successful. Thank you SO MUCH! Adding to my DIY list.😁
Great! Glad I could help, and thanks for the kind words!
This weed eater sucks to high heaven. This is season number 2 for me using it as a private owner. When I feed the string through the hole and try to turn the knob counterclockwise to retract the string, the whole weed eater starts to turn and fall to the floor or slide off the table. And if that's not enough, when I have someone helping me and they hold the string out to the side while I take pliers to try to rotate the knob it just makes a clicking sound and the string never retracts. Thanks for taking the time to make the video it does confirm that I'm doing it right but I'm sure it's helpful for others. I am going to see how hard option two is
I've never done this on any weedeater before. I tried the first method this morning and it worked! Thank you!!!
Great! Thanks for the feedback!
The one thing he didn't show or perhaps understand is that in the center spindle, there is a channel for the line to travel from one side to the other. You can see the channel hole at 2:31 in his video. The reason he is lining up the arrows on the spindle case is to insure the medal feed slots are directly over the channel if you lined them up correctly. Once you shove the half the line through the channel, you can then crank the spindle to retract the new line.
With all due respect, a lot of people take the time and the energy to make and share videos, others just like to comment.
@@rhoula comment sections are there for a reason skippy. So zip it
@@vonkanon3091 who are you? his cheerleader. Take your own advice bouhahahahah CSL
Thank you for listing the size of string to use. A big thumbs up 👍!!
You're welcome, and thanks!!
This video is extremely straightforward and easy to follow. I will add that I had to use something to help me push in the opening levers to remove the top. Thanks for your video!
You're welcome. Thanks for the kind words!
Thank you so much! I was getting frustrated lol
You're welcome!
Love this. I got the weed-eater restrung without opening it!!! I'm so excited to have learned that., Could you help me with one more thing? I try tapping it to get more string but it doesn't work for me. Am I too weak? What is the trick to getting it to feed string?
Make sure the weedeater is spinning pretty fast when you tap it. Also, you may have to tap it harder. I try to find a patch of grass to tap it on, and sometimes it does take a somewhat hard tap (more of a bang than a tap). That should work and you should hear the string getting chopped off by the small cutting blade on the shroud. You should also see small pieces of string on the ground when it works correctly.
Dude!! You're a lifesaver!!! Thank you so much! All these years! LOL
Ha! Thanks!
I have found numerous videos that show how to restring trimmers. I do appreciate it, but no videos on how to grease the gear box and other moving parts?! Help us out, please.
Hey has anyone come across any good bump head replacement options ? I have the same version and the bump head is finally no more. Need good suggestions
I follow method 2 but I have to manuever the head to the floor and smack it to get back in place. The design sucks
I'll admit I'd never done this myself. Not too complicated but this really should have been in the manual that came with it
Instruction manuals aren't very clear much of the time...
Thank you so much! 30 something here and finally learned how to do it!!!
But you did it!
Thank You.
Now we know it is possible to do this by stringing the spool first.
The "easy" way is a pain, the cap doesn't turn easily at all. Had to take turns and each of us ended up with sore hands.
I am happy (and she is too) that we don't have to do it the "easy" way.
You're welcome. And I agree with you on the "easy" way.
You have to push down hard n turn at Same time
good video - awful trimmer. next to impossible to add line. also - the .08 trim breaks all to easily.
Winding that thing in counterclockwise takes the strength of two mules!
Thank you for making a quick and precise video. I can confirm the first method works for an 80V as well. One thing i noticed that varied, my bump know was so scratched and scoured that i couldnt see the arrow. You can rotate the knob while looking through the eyelet until you see the passthrough hole, and it worked like a charm. Cheers
Great! Thank you!
I’m a bit late but mine won’t turn, am I supposed to push the button in? Bc it still won’t turn
Option 1 didn't work for me, option 2 worked like a charm...thanks for the video
👍👍
Very good video, but very hard to turn rotating button after trimmer has been used.
This was incredibly helpful thank you
Great! Thank you!
Thanks, I was going to try to just thread the string straight thru like the first method but decided to pop the head off just to look inside. Glad I did because there was a 4-inch piece of line inside the head that probably would have caused problems later. BTW, I have the 24V version, appears to have the same head.
👍
Thanks from a woman who doesn't have a dad to teach me how to do this on my first weedeater. I was about to cry 😅 or go to my neighbors house like a sad sad girl 😂
Good job. Most tasks around the home end up being easier than you'd think, especially when you get a short tutorial like on YT. Glad you figured it out!
Dude
...I was winding the string manually and fighting to get the cap on for the past 2 years...😂
Thank you
Thabk
YW!
You saved my life, man. I was about to lose my mind trying to restring this.
Glad you figured it out!
Trying to wind the line "evenly" without marking the center made me feel hella slow lile Homer Simpson... *DOE!!!* 😂 Thank you, Sir!
YW!! 👍😁
After struggling for over an hour trying to follow the stupid instructions on the manual, I found your video and finished in ten minutes! Thank you very much! Why the heck doesn't the Kobalt manual show you the easy way to do it? Stupid, stupid, stupid...
You're welcome! Glad I could help!
The instructions tell me to use 16 feet of line. I find your suggestion of 12 feet is much easier to wind and not so thick that I can still drop the spool into position. Maybe a machine can do it with 16 feet but I am a mere human. Great video.
Thank you!
I'm sure you've gotten plenty of kudos for your video. I would like to add my name to that list. Excellent job. Thank you.
Well I appreciate it! Thanks!
My Kobalt weed eater will never feed the line out when you bump it.🤦🏻♀️And I did just what you showed here.
Hmmm. Usually that happens when the string underneath gets pinched by the next layer of string. I say try it again and see what happens. Are you winding it manually or turning the knob to wind it?
onlyproblem IS I dont have a bump thing on mine. I assume its auto....... the spool on my 40 MAX spool is totally different
What model number is yours?
Excellent video. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks!
Nice video. Tried the second method since every now and then old fashioned is the way to go. Working good so far. Appreciate ya!
Great! Thanks!
2 seasons later my no longer winds. So frustrating
Thank you so much for this video!! Someone gave me this trimmer and I've never used the first one. I've downloaded the manuel and watched a few videos and this is the one that made it all click. Thank you so much!!!
Great!
The metal piece on the plastic will automatically cut the string for you so it’s not so long.
True. But if the string is very long when first pulling the trigger, sometimes the long string makes it hard for the battery to get the whole thing spinning fast enough. Just saves the battery/motor a little bit to cut it first in that case. But yes, just a tiny bit long is no problem, and the blade will cut it.
Thanks, option 2 worked really easy for me....thank you for creating this video.👍
You're welcome! Glad to hear it!
Thank you. The second way you showed worked for me because I didnt have the strength as a 65 yr old female to turn it the first way.
OK, good. Glad I could help. Thanks for the feedback!
use the notches to hold the string while you put the cap back on
Thank you, you made this easy for me. Im a senior female. My first time doing this. Thanks again😊
Great! Congratulations for getting it done yourself!
This is genius! Thank you, you save me a lot of headache trying to man-figure it out myself! Lol
😄👍 Glad this helped!
Thanks i just purchased this weed eater and few months ago and just now needing to change the line this worked perfect for me
Great!
Best weedeater i have ever owned
Very easy to follow. I wish the instruction manual could have made it that easy. Thankyou
Thanks 🙂👍
great video. well scripted. great teaching method. THANK YOU
Thank you!!
Glad to see this as I thought there was only one way. Which was the newest way with this newer model. Mine didnt turn so easily think I will just stick to the old way. Gratitude
Good deal. Thanks for the nice comment.
Thank you; this was very helpful.
Great! Thanks!
Thanks a lot, I have exactly the same model, and there's always a first time to replace the string and I did it the easy way
Great!
Oh my how easy it was to string my kolbolt! Excellent video! Thank you very much!
You're welcome!
Thank you for the explanation. The instructions included are useless and makes me feel like I need a degree in rocket science for such a simple task.
You're welcome!
Wow so easy to do it the first way
👍👍
i WENT TO Lowe's to try to get pre-loaded cartridge and we compared it to what they said it was and totally different. I called customer support gave the model of the string trimmer kst 1040b-03 can the call line to customer support could not even find that as a model # and I had read it directly of the long shaft near the handel and they could not even find the model. I only bought the unit in early months of 2023 and they can't even find the model at customer support. What is going on does the cartridge come apart the one they had had a Hugh diameter and was not the color of yours . my cartridge look like yours, theirs's did not so what is going on. can't even find the model only a year and one half old. Am I crazy expecting Lowe's not to support Kobalt!!!
This video doesn't work for your model (your model gets loaded differently)? I have another Kobalt video for a different style of weedeater. Will post the link.
Try this video: ua-cam.com/video/XLYDwJqc5PA/v-deo.html
Thank you Uncle Fix Everything Yourself! See ya at the reunion!
👍
The spring and black washer came out. What's the correct way to assemble them?
To put the spring and washer back in, put the spring back in first, then the black washer. You'll see there's a similar black washer inside the white spool. The two black washers sit against each other.
Thank you! Excellent and very helpful tutorial. 😊
Thanks!
What bump feed spool is this one? I have a different one and having issues with it.
Not sure what this one is called. I have another video of a 24V Kobalt (see lonk below). Maybe it's what you have? If not, I'd be interested in knowing what model number yours is.

Nice job! Included instructions SUCKED so bad!
😁👍
Thank you so much for posting this very helpful video!!!
YW!
Gratitude! Now I can go finish this yard work.
😁👍
Very educational and informative. Thank you!!!!!!
Thanks!
What do I do if it gets tangled during the ‘easy’ method and won’t turn?
Take the cap off, unwind the string, and try one of the methods again. During winding, very gently tug on the string every few turns and that might keep it from tangling.
