- This video is a quick one on how to auto load pinup popper and start playing pinball on your virtual pinball cabinet without needing the keyboard to login to Windows and without needing a mouse to double click on pipup popper.
I will show you the steps to have an autoload Windows set up and an auto start up pinup popper whenever you turn on your vpin cabinet. You'll be playing pinball in 10 seconds after pushing the power button!
If you would like to make my vpin cabinet, here is a link to the free plans!

Another great video. Your VPin build series is fast becoming the video equivalent to MJR's pinscape build guide
Wow! What a compliment! Thank you very much but without MJR's vpin bible, I probably couldn't have made such a nice cabinet. I just wanted to help make a visual aid to compliment the bible. It was a very complex hobby to initially figure out so hopefully this series can help people out. Thanks for the watch and the support of the channel!
Agreed! The verse is one thing, but seeing in practice makes it much easier to follow. Where do we send our tithes! So much value around here.
Nice and simple. I’ve been so busy loading tables and fine tuning the front end I haven’t done this yet.
Thanks! Yeah I was just setting it up on my cabinet and thought this would be helpful for others....so here it is. Thanks for the watch!
The copy paste of the startup file for pinup popper did not work, had to create a shortcut for it and place that in the windows startup....just FYI....great video!.....your videos have saved me so many times from giving up! Thanks for all your great work!
Yeah either way should work. Glad my videos could help you out and you're enjoying the channel! Thanks for the watch!
Great tip and a quick hitter. Please tell me this weeks vid isn't only 3 minutes!!!! More brother, more! *cheer*
Lol, sorry bud. I know you're fixin for a WOTW video of epic proportions but these quality videos require time. Next video is on installing glass and making custom glass rear trim from scratch. I just got the cabinet buttons/coin door/plunger wired up and working great today so a couple videos there coming too. Thanks for the support Brandon!
ty for all your videos about pinball . i was waiting for this one.
You're very welcome Gary! Glad I could help ya out. Thanks for the watch, cheers!
Thanks a lot for this. Straight to the point.
No worries! Glad you liked it!
Nice! Step by step... thank you bro!
No worries! Figured it would be useful for people! Cheers Sam!
Quick Easy and in and out. Subscribed
Cheers! Thanks for the sub and welcome to the channel!
This is a question I have thought about alot, and you answered it. I use joy 2 key for my vpin button controls and have it setup as a startup program as well.
Do you have to tell Joy 2 key to start? I thought it was a program that automatically ran....hrmmm, ya learn something every day. Thanks!
@@wayofthewrenchI have to tell it to joy 2 key to start...unless I am missing something and now I am learning something new....haha
Nah, you're probably right.
Nice one, thank you.
great videos with clear instructions ...would like to ask 1 thing thou ,can you do a video about flippers sticking on virtual tables and how to fix this ?....
Thanks! Flippers sticking? Are you talking about the sticky keys pop up that you have to turn off to make the pop up go away? If the flippers are sticking, I would check your physical buttons to ensure it's physically breaking the leaf switch contacts causing vpx to let the flipper go back. Thanks for the watch!.
Really enjoy your videos got me inspired to build my own I have the monitors and pc to the point I can play the leprechaun game. But thats all I can not download anything from vpforums. I have the 7 zip is there anything else I'm missing
From vpforums, you dowload the vpx table and the b2s backglass files. Make sure the are named exactly the same and put in tables folder in visual pinball folder. Open the vpx table and it will error out and tell you the exact name of the rom you need. Download this rom and put in the visual pinball/vpinmame/rom folder. Then restart the vpx table, set and save your dmd position how you like it/save it, and close it again. Open it back up and your golden.
Great video Mate, I have set this up however now I cannot get back to the desktop.
Can you please advise how to get back into settings and the desktop.
Thanks! Just press escape on a keyboard or exit on pinup popper and you'll be at the desktop. Thanks for the watch!
For Windows 11, I also had to turn off Windows Hello for sign-in.
Nice! I haven't used Win 11 yet, how is it?
obrigado!
You're very welcome! Thanks for the watch!
I love your videos WOTW! I installed my Pin Cabinet following your other videos. It was very helpful! I cannot get this startup with windows working though. I installed the baller installer on a different HDD and I did follow the instructions here. There must be something different that i have to do? It doesn't work for me. I am very frustrated. It shows up different errors. Do i have to have it on the C: drive maybe? If anyone has a clue what to look at let me know. Thanks!
When you start the pc, what does it do? Just opens to desktop like normal?
@@wayofthewrench I used just the shortcut and it worked! I had went by the pinup popper instructions that had another .txt file in it but it wouldn't work that way. I am not sure why. Windows 10 x64 is what I have installed.
Glad you got it figured out Anthony! Cheers!
Great. Thank you. Why they alway start with this green pinball table...?
The Lephrachaun King is just the first table in the Pinup Popper menu, you can remove that if you want. Thanks for the watch!
This looks awesome I wish I had the funds to be able to build one.
Do what I did and start slow. Use/get an old pc and 2 used tvs and install baller installer. This cost me $150 and I had a blast playing tables for like 8 months while I saved up and waited for free stuff.
@@wayofthewrench does everything work even if you don't have a case or table. I just want to make sure if I do get all of the electronics together to make shure it will work with the software.
You just use a pc keyboard to try the software. Shift buttons are flippers, ctrl and spacebar is nudge, enter is start, 4 and 5 is coins, etc. Try it and then once you're hooked, but the parts and build a cabinet!
@@wayofthewrench can I use a Arduino mega as my input controller for the computer with my buttons?
They are not usually used like this but if an arduino mega can be configured as a game controller than yes. Your buttons are inputs and you need the pc to recognize those as outputs so you can configure it as a gane controller. Cheers!
If you use instant sheller it hides everything and faster boot in the frontend, pinup, pinballx, whatever...
I'll have to look into this, thanks for the tip! Cheers!
dont forget the KL25Z interface ;-)
Nope, not forgotten. I use an under the cab power button which turns it on and now it goes straight into PinupPopper. When I want to shut it off, I have my plunger button (press it in) and it brings up the system menu in PinupPopper and then I can select exit to desktop for service or shutdown the entire cabinet. Video is coming soon! Thanks for the watch!
So how do you shut it down with out keyboard and mouse?
I have my plunger push button to bring up the close menu in popper and from there I can kick out to the desktop for adding tables or shutdown the pc. The smart power strip shuts off everything else and then I flick off the IEC320 power switch at the back. Thanks for the watch!
great video. a lot of people talk a lot of waffle.
Thanks..... I'm usually the one who talks waffle, but it's really good. Cheers!
How do i startup automaticly from d drive because c is only a small ssd to startup windows faster ?
It would be exactly the same set up as in the video but your shortcut needs to be from where you have your baller installer (visual pinball) installed. So you would have to install your pinball software on the other drive if the C drive is too small. I suggest a 500g or 1T ssd drive for your operating system and your pinball stuff. Cheers!
I tried i the way you did it i get a error message that windows cant find the file
Got it thank you
Hrmmm, not sure
Glad you got it figured out!
So if I need to add more games how do I get it not to "auto launch" when I power on the table?
OoOh and I'll be doing work this weekend on the 7.1 surround sound... got all my parts in today :) thanks to you for that video :)
You don't, just let it start and then quit popper to desktop. Take about 20 seconds total.
@@wayofthewrench so Q Q gotcha... thank you
no worries!
Hey mate, when I quit topper back to windows, nothing is on the desktop. It's as if all the desktop items are hidden. Is there a way to show the start button or desktop items
Thanks for the share! Cheers!
creen un acceso directo, no copiarlo, abz y gracias por el tutorial desde Argentina, armando mi cabina de pinball! muchas gracias
Nice, how's your vpin cabinet going? Thanks for the watch and enjoy your build!
@@wayofthewrench Hello!, at the moment it is going well, my main idea is to recycle most of the things to be able to assemble it, the interior is a DUAL CORE and an NVIDIA 1030, 4 GB RAM, and it works, lowering the quality, I will probably give it a try later an upgrade, as you get the parts. Your videos were very helpful to me and I thank you for that, your board looks incredible, I started building my own board with your videos and now I almost have it. although here in Argentina it is very difficult to get some parts, like a simple front door. :(. anyway, thank you very much!
There might be a 3d printable coin door or you could make one from wood for a very low cost version.
@@wayofthewrench yes! I Will try. Thanks!!
no worries!
That box for the checkmark isn't there. 😑
If the box is not there, you need to make a local account. Then it will be there.
Save all your work.
In Start , select Settings > Accounts > Your info.
Select Sign in with a local account instead.
Type the user name, password, and password hint for your new account. The user name must be different than any others on the device. Note: If you’re using Windows 10, version 1803, you can add security questions-instead of a hint-to your local account to help you reset your password in case you forget it. Check your version of Windows 10
Select Next, then select Sign out and finish. Sign back in with your new local account.
If you didn’t add security questions to help you reset your password, it’s a good idea to create a password reset disk. If you don't do this and then forget your password, you won't be able to recover it.
Cheers!
@@wayofthewrench there's also a way to go into RegEdit and change the registry to show that box on an already created account. Worked for me. Google is the way, as I do not remember the steps off hand.
For those who are interested, U can actually suppress the Windows 'Brand' entirely, with the settings under 'Unbranded Boot' switched on, and switching the 'Windows Shell', default being explorer.exe, with whatever software u want running, in this case, the pinball software. These are a group of settings that will remove the Windows feel, so that when you switch the computer on, it doesn't feel like a program running on top of Windows, but it's own embedded device. And setting the Windows Shell to the software u want, will prevent the desktop from even loading, and simply boot into the desired software. This is the same thing they do for store POS systems, McDonald's self menu selectors, and even in the banking world, with ATMs. It is a bit technical, needs WinPro minimum to do, and it is advised to have 2 user accounts in place. One for whatever your setting the computer up to be, and a 2nd normal account for management, so you can simply remove the account should you screw up. But the results look great. For my set up, its no Windows branding from switch on to LaunchBox/BigBox booting up. Worth a look.

That's great info to share, thanks for the tip/link. I might do this once I'm all done. Cheers!
@@wayofthewrench I would also add that its best if ppl don't know what they are doing, best to experiment within a VM or something. When I first tried to get the unbranded boot working, I could find little to no tutorial videos online showing examples and guidance on how to get it done, and it took me a few screw ups to finally get it to a point where I liked it. Didn't go the full lot, suppressed the Boot UI, Replaced the Motherboard Boot logo with the LaunchBox Logo, and swapped the Shell to BigBox. At some point I would tinker with it a bit more, but I'd rather not screw round with it now I got it sorted. Maybe if u can get your head round these settings, maybe a future video idea. Would help many ppl who are looking for a complete 'Windows-less' experience.
Yeah that would make a good video for giving that polished look to the vpin. Thanks for the idea!
@@Cyberbyte_010 when you exit out of a table does it then default back to desktop? Thanks so much for adding this info. Adding it to the ever growing list...
@@Shaner014 No. If u exit the software, what you are left with is a black screen. The computer is on, but there is no UI, no taskbar, no icons, no mouse icon, nothing. This is bc the desktop that we all know is part of the default shell 'explorer.exe'. If you reach this point, you'll probably worry that your stuck or broken the computer, you haven't. This is just the computer running with no graphical UI running. If you had Command Prompt running, it would look like an old MS-DOS environment, like in 1982's TRON film. There's a simple way to get back into the desktop UI or any software u want. Simply Press "Ctrl+Alt+Del" or "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" to bring up Task Manager, click on the "File" Tab, and click on "Run New Task" and type in "explorer.exe" for the desktop UI. Doing that will load in the shell, and the desktop will be as it always was. Or from the "Run New Task" window, Click the "Browse" button and navigate to wherever the Frontend software is installed, Select the frontend software and your back into Pinball or BigBox/HyperSpin etc. It's for this reason why there's an option, called "Keyboard Filter", to disable certain key presses like Ctrl Alt Delete within the Device Lockdown settings, bc if these weren't disabled, anyone could plug in a keyboard into an exposed USB port on a POS or ATM system and mess with it. I for one haven't enabled Keyboard Filter, as there is no need to. My BigBox setup isn't in a public place, I've locked my BigBox setup into Kiosk Mode, so no one can break out of the software environment and get stuck in a black screen, and I'm the only one in my home who's tech minded. Hope this helps and answers your question.
