I'm 52 years old and because of people like yourself and others I found the confidence to build my own virtual pinball arcade system. I found a alienware aurora r7 for 20. 2 25in 1080 pc monitors and desk mounting pole for 5. A 40in 1080p tv for 16. 2 speakers for 10, and a real standup arcade cabinet coin doors and all for 15. It took me roughly 4 months on and off (I'm in arizona) building it. I built it and now I'm doing the software portion. So as far as I know I could be the first standup pinball, I'm limited to room in my home thats why I went this route. The pc monitors sit above the playfield monitor. Left side dmd, right marquee. Good afternoon. First of all, congratulations on your work building the pinball and...... let's see if you can help me with the installation of the "baller istaller"... I understand everything and I do it well but I think that when I get to the last phase I'm wrong about something because when I load a table it doesn't appear In my "FullDMD" the entire screen only shows the marker... I'm a little lost because I can't find guidance online and I'm sure this is where I'm wrong. My cabinet configuration is three screens, "Playfield, Backglass and FullDMD"... I have seen other tutorials but they use two screens and not 3....Thank you
I would redo the screens portion of the installer and see if something got missed. Beyond that check windows display settings where you rearrange the display numbers. Aldo check your screens for a very small DMD that needs stretched/sized to fit the full DMD. Remember that you need a game that has a full DMD so you can check it. I believe the lephrachaun table does. Good luck!
No worries, we were all new at one time. There's a whole build series to check out since it is for beginners too! Thanks for the watch and enjoy your new hobby!
you don't need to disable anti-virus. You could just exclude the folders and programs, it is harder to figure out but is possible. Windows would block some stuff in the firewall with the AV so you may have to figure out which ports are required. If the ports are randomized you could allow it at the exe.
Yeah ya know I don't usually have any issues with the anti virus, more issues with Windows updates that mess my 7.1 sound settings. Thanks for the watch and your suggestions. Cheers!
Realmente Fantástico o seu tutorial. Passei o dia tentando configura o Back glass, se tivesse vindo direito no seu canal teria me poupado um bom tempo...Obrigado.
I only had two favourite shop teachers. You're one of them. I'm going to build a VP cabinet but first I'm trying to go through a learning curve before starting. You do instill confidence in my tackling this. My Q is, do you use or need MJR's Pinscape software in your build? If not, why?
Awwwwe shucks.....thank you very much! I do try very hard to make the best videos I can for people out there so it's always nice to hear back from my viewers. Yes, you can do it! I'd love to see your cabinet when you're done! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. No pinscape is not mandatory, it is an option though. For example I used a Virtuapin plunger kit and they use their own controller. Pinscape is the software running on a kl25z board. If you use pinscape with a stand alone kl25z board you will have to figure out a plunger for your setup but as a trade off, pinscape software has a shift button function that he Virtuapin controller doesn't have. Good luck on your build and welcome to the channel!
@@wayofthewrench Lol - the hardest part is figuring out what to do once it's installed. 18:47 was a start. 1 Start Game, sometimes 5 to enter a coin and Shifts left Shifts right are paddles. Q in the right place to quit. It took me longer than the install pretty much. haha -- Now I'm about to rearrange my displays!
Nice! Yeah I never played when I was younger but now Im hooked and I've gotten my daughter into it too. Eventually I would like to have family tournaments and high score bragging rights. Cheers!
I absolutely LOVE your virtual pinball series 🙌. May I ask? Could I first start with a one screen cabinet and then later add two or three screens down the line? Or will I have to reinstall the software after adding extra screens?
Follwoed your guide, which was perfect, thank you. I am a desktop user and would like my playfield to display in Landscape for my 2 monitor setup (my second monitor for backglass/dmd is on the wall above my primary monitor) How can i do this if possible?
In VPX, there is a desktop mode to select and that's it. Worst case scenario, in editor of the ode you can rotate the playfield to 0 or 270. I believe 0 is landscape and people set this to 270 degrees usually for portrait if fullscreen doesn't work for the vpin cabinets. Good luck and thanks for the watch!
No worries Bruh, glad you liked it! Lots of videos in that playlist and they get better as the build progresses. Thanks for the watch, enjoy the series!
Thank you for your helpful videos! All went ok with the baller installer until I click to play Leprechaun King. The backglass remains, but the playfield disappears. Tried restarting pc and same thing. Any thoughts?
I would check Alt+Tab and see if the playfield is up but hidden behind another monitor. Aldo check vpx video settings for which monitor is playfield and check that screens setup in windows is what it's supposed to be in the baller installer instructions. After that maybe redo baller installer for the screen selection process. Good luck!
Pure Awesomeness!!!! I have failed at installing VP many times over the years. But, I keep coming back and trying. I stopped back today, did my classic google search "how to set up virtual pinball" and your video has me very excited! Could you please tell me what operating system to use? I only have an old imac at the time but I will be purchasing a PC to get this working. I have no idea of what kind of system requirements that are needed. RAM? Processor speed? OS? It will be used only for this project. Thank you so much for this video!!
Sweet! Glad you're trying again as this hobby is too cool to not get started! You will need a pc with windows 10 ( or 11) with at least an i3 but an i5 with say 2.9mhz or newer is recommended. Try to get 16g of ram and a gtx 1050ti or better. Use a new 500g ssd drive for your os install. These are a minimum for 1080p at 60hz display. Do a fresh windows operating system install and then install baller installer. All of this should be in the video series as well. Good luck on your build!

Love the vids man so much useful information, I’m going to give this a try with a barebones build with the kids, how do you set these up to work with an arcade stick or controller? I want to look at a custom arcade stick with flipper buttons on the side
Awesome, you should totally do this with your kids! The setup with an arcade stick should be really easy if it has a usb connection, just map your buttons inside vpx. I have videos coming out later that will show this process but it should be really easy. Essentially you can play with a keyboard too until you get it figured out. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench Gave this project a go over the weekend! Was mostly a proof of concept using a laptop and an small tv propped up on the coffee table with an arcade stick as controls, kids loved it though. Its got me wanting to explore a more permeant feature!
Awesome, you should totally go for it now! Start collecting a pc and some monitors first and go from there. Just take your time and get your kids involved in the process! Cheers!
Thanks Brenden for the watch and the sub! Yeah this vpin cab is one of the coolest builds I have ever done, I can't wait to play it again (played on my living room floor just on the monitors for like 6 months). Thanks! This is great! Helped a lot! Is there a video showing how to add additional tables? What files should I move to, what should I look for? Thank you in advance!!!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful for ya! Yes, if you look at my virtual pinball cabinet playlist there is a video on how to install vpx tables and all the little things you need to know to get them working right. Thanks for the watch!
I'd like your help, I had a little problem. Everything works great with two screens after installation, the only problem is that i can't move the DMD to the backglass, but not even to another position. Whatever coordinates I enter do not change position of DMD. The problem is in Pinball Fx3 only, Future Pinball and Visual Pinball are OK. I don't know why. Help me, please. Thank you in advance!
If I remember correctly the positioning of the dmd is done by Cartesian coordinates ( like x;y) from the top left corner of your primary monitor. You can change these values to change the size and position with even negative values if your second monitor is to the left or below in your windows display settings. There is also a setting to allow repositioning for backglass and the dmd so maybe that is turned off. Let me know if you can move it at all after this. Cheers!
Yes, in fact the 2 screen option makes the backglass look just like authentic speakers and dmd. I actually did this for 8 months on my test build. Thanks for the watch!
I do have a back up of all my videos just in case something happens. That would be brutal to lose all of this work..... Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
I appreciate all the work you have put into your cab and especially all these videos. It looks like you installed the VirtuaPin plunger and accompanying input board along with the Pinup Popper front end. How did you manage to get Pinup Popper to recognize the keys from the VirtuaPin board? It'll work for all the tables in VPX and FP but not for the menu in Pinup Popper. Thanks for your help.
No worries, glad you like the content! In previous videos I was using the keyboard for button presses, I haven't set up my Virtuapin v3 plunger kit yet but I will be soon so I will find out soon. As far as I know you setup up using the virtuapin controller software and make sure it is running ok in vpx and future first. Then if it isn't working in pinup popper, there should be a button setup menu in popper to get that setup as well. Hope this works for ya. Thanks for the watch!
I planned to try this today, joined both facebook and discord groups, the only links for downloads are 'upgrades' assuming you have 'baller installer' already installed. I can't find this 'all in one' anywhere? Any help locating this file would be much appreciated
Thanks dude! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks in advance!
Hello, before installing the PinUP Popper "Baller" Installer more easily, I simply wanted to ask the community if with my I5 Intel PC, 8gb Ram Memory and a 2gb Nvidia 940 I will be able to play VPX casually with the tables that use PinUp popper, Since I play classic tables everything is fine but I really don't know if the requirements of my PC will work. Thank you so much It is to run it in desktop mode
It might run 1080p at 60 hz ok but pup packs might be choppy. It's a little below the minimum requirement though. I would run a GTX 1050 minimum with 16 g of ram. Worth a try but you'll wanna upgrade pretty quick so maybe just do the upgrade to start. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
I would recommend a gtx 1050 minimum for 1080p at 60hz. I was able to find free gpus around this power just by asking friends and co workers who had ones laying around. You can't get much cheaper than free. Thanks for the watch!
Thanks, it helps me a lot. it all works fine after struggling for months. :) hopefuly youre going to ad all the buttons, solenoids, kl shieldv5.1 with the kl25z and all its software. because iam struggling with that too. and with youre videos it looks easy.
That's awesome, glad I was able to help you out and you're up and running now! Yes I plan on doing a video for the entire build, although with different components maybe. Next video is decasing monitors and talking about what to get. Then a parts gathering video ( might skip ssf for now and do later). Then a design/plans video. Then start building the cabinet. I purchased the kl25z plunger v3 kit from Virtuapin and to start, that might be it as it cab be used for 15 buttons. After the base budget build is done, I will start looking at all of the extras like dof, ssf, shaker motor, wiper motor, knocker, led addressable led strips, etc. I am heavily leaning towards ssf with exciters and then going from there. Thanks for the watch, cheers! Good luck with your build!
I can't wait to do it either, I just wish I had more time to work on it. These days I'm only getting a couple hours every every other day to work on it.
The baller installer is a game changer for sure. So much faster than the old way. Kudos to Nailbuster and everyone who has created these amazing programs and tables! Seriously a community of truly talented people. The real problem now is how to stop playing the vpin and get on building the cabinet.....way too much fun.
What are the specs of your pc? and other thing, How do you have the three monitors connected to the graphics card, using two hdmi ports (to playfield and backglass monitor) and one dvi (to fulldmd monitor?
It's a dumpster PC rebuild so not too fancy. It's an i5 3.2 GHz with 16g of ram and a GTX 1050 running on a 500g SSD. My GPU has 3 ports for this to happen. One display port might have an adapter to run HDMI. Thanks for the watch!
Thank you for a very helpful video. I also watched TerryRed's software starter and file explanation videos. However, when I tried the test button using setup.exe in the the vpmame folder the window with the test button dissappear and nothing happens. Also, when I bring up the vpx editor and try to click on backglass icon my mouse disappears. In fact, anytime I place the mouse inside the vpx editor the mouse cursor dissappear. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Any assistance anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
I figured it out. There is a setting I forgot to set if you have an amd cpu. However, I can see the table and can hear the coin dropping, but can't start the game using the number 1 key.
@@wayofthewrench I'm still in the "thinking of building one" stage. and thinking a small 32" cabinet. Am looking at 32 inch screens and thinking of going with 1440 resolution.
Yes it is totally possible! There are new tables being made all the time. Some of them are new tables based off of another table's ROM files but with new music/graphics/theme and some are brand new. I haven't done it but have thought it would be cool to make one for the channel. Maybe a shop teacher theme where you try to create projects with out cutting your fingers off....lol. @Way of the Wrench On my build for right now I'm being cheap about it and not currently using the kL25 Just trying to build a bear bones set up for right now I was hoping to be able to use one of the DIY arcade button unit sets USB But nothing's communicating
Great question! If your doing 1080p at 60hz then it really shouldn't matter but as the resolution goes to 4k and higher refresh rate then You will want to look at the newer versions of hdmi and display port. HDMI, Display Port, and DVI are all digital compared to VGA ( don't use) but DVI is usually only video. With my practice builds I used hdmi and Display Port and both seemed the same at 1080p. Cool, what do you teach?

Awesome! Glad I was able to help you out. Hopefully I was able to earn your subscription today. Cheers!
A newbie here and I Thank you!
You are so welcome! Hopefully I earned your subscription today. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
Okay. I'm trying this tonight. Wish me luck!
You got this! You'll be playing TOTAN or Monster Mash in no time! Have fun!
@@wayofthewrench TOTAN and Monster Bash are a blast. The wife and kids really have gotten into it. I think we've been bit but the vpin bug.
Thanks alot! Yes you totally can! Later just redo the pinup screen section to update it. Thanks for the watch!
Fantastic video, thank you so much
No worries Bruh, glad you liked it!
Good luck!
Estou muito feliz com seus vídeos Parabéns.
Thanks Marcos, glad you enjoyed the video!
@@wayofthewrench this is so helpful. I can't believe you actually wrote back!!! You have supplied me with everything I need! THANK YOU!!!! I can hear the sounds of Data East's Check Point Pinball in my sleep. YES YES YES!!!!!
Lol yeah I'm answering every single comment so I can help people out with their projects/problems. It's a lot of work, especially lately because I'm getting 15 to 20 comments a day now and growing. Hopefully karma will shine her light on me and help my channel go viral one day! Yeah this hobby is amazing, I was playing my new ssf system today! Cheers Bill!
Cheers!
Great video. You got a subscriber. Have been wanting to do a build like this for a while since I built my name cab.
Thanks Brenden for the watch and the sub! Yeah this vpin cab is one of the coolest builds I have ever done, I can't wait to play it again (played on my living room floor just on the monitors for like 6 months). Hopefully this series can get you through your build. I'd love to see your finished vpin cab when you're done, just dm my Instagram. Cheers!
@@wayofthewrench will do. might be a little while, but I have a lot of salvage TVs and monitors lying around. Gotta finish my house remodel then I can get a new project.
I think your new house remodel needs.....no....deserves a virtual pinball cabinet!
@@wayofthewrench totally agree. Remodel is taking longer than expected. When done tinkering will resume as normal.
Everything works great with two screens after installation,
the only problem is that i can't move the DMD to the backglass, but not even to another position.
Cheers!
For people who opt for no DMD, Is it easy to have the score displayed as an overlay on the backglass?
Yes, in fact the 2 screen option makes the backglass look just like authentic speakers and dmd. I actually did this for 8 months on my test build. Thanks for the watch!
I hope you've made copies of this series of videos;for posterity, and kept at least 2 copies off site......just in case.
Thank you sir!!! Keep it up!!
Gonna be awesome fa sure!
I planned to try this today, joined both facebook and discord groups, the only links for downloads are 'upgrades' assuming you have 'baller installer' already installed. I can't find this 'all in one' anywhere? Any help locating this file would be much appreciated
It's pinned right at the top of the facebook group and there will be a all in one baller installer. Cheers!
Hi, is there also a video how to build tables into the frontend? Greeting
Yup, here ya go!
ua-cam.com/video/p5zofnnOXJM/v-deo.html
Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench thanks for your help ! Your Videos a perfect man !
Thank you so much
It is to run it in desktop mode
It might run 1080p at 60 hz ok but pup packs might be choppy. It's a little below the minimum requirement though. I would run a GTX 1050 minimum with 16 g of ram. Worth a try but you'll wanna upgrade pretty quick so maybe just do the upgrade to start. Hope that helps. Thanks for the watch and welcome to the channel!
For setting up with a budget PC, what is the minimum graphics requirement for great performance?
@@wayofthewrench Oh man thats great, cant wait too see more of youre pinball building stuf.
I can't wait to do it either, I just wish I had more time to work on it. These days I'm only getting a couple hours every every other day to work on it.
Thank you!
You're welcome! You building a vpin cabinet? Cheers!
@Way of the Wrench trying to figure out my best and most affordable option. Building would be better I think.
Yeah its waaaay cheaper to build your own. Like almost 10 times the cost. You can do it!
Mega Video ... THANKS!
Glad you liked it, lots more videos in that series coming....stay tuned.
I did exactly everything like in your video but I tried to change rotation and everything and is always showing the game vertically, help please
Rotation of the playfield? Check vpx video settings for the playfield and maybe PC display settings. Good luck!
Excellent
The baller installer is a game changer for sure. So much faster than the old way. Kudos to Nailbuster and everyone who has created these amazing programs and tables! Seriously a community of truly talented people. The real problem now is how to stop playing the vpin and get on building the cabinet.....way too much fun.
the 2 files that you download can you share those files thanks
cant find them on the site
You have to join the pinup popper facebook group and the files are pinned at the top. Cheers!
@@wayofthewrench Ok Thanks
You're welcome!
Where did ya download tables?
VPUniverse or vpforums or orbital. Cheers!
Glad you got it figured out! Out of curiosity, what was the setting for amd?
Is there option for 1440 resolution on main field?
If you have that resolution, it should be there to pick from. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench I'm still in the "thinking of building one" stage. and thinking a small 32" cabinet. Am looking at 32 inch screens and thinking of going with 1440 resolution.
Dude, it's too cool to be in the "thinking about doing it" stage......trust me, it is super cool and you won't regret it.
Thanks!
You're welcome!
Do you know if it is possible to create my own ROM table images?
Yes it is totally possible! There are new tables being made all the time. Some of them are new tables based off of another table's ROM files but with new music/graphics/theme and some are brand new. I haven't done it but have thought it would be cool to make one for the channel. Maybe a shop teacher theme where you try to create projects with out cutting your fingers off....lol. Thanks for the watch!
Thank you that got me most of the way
Great! Curious...what got ya stumped?
@Way of the Wrench On my build for right now I'm being cheap about it and not currently using the kL25 Just trying to build a bear bones set up for right now
I was hoping to be able to use one of the DIY arcade button unit sets USB But nothing's communicating
Those ipac boards should hook up ok. Maybe check usb port, windows devices/drivers, usb cords, etc.
@@wayofthewrench Figured it out all working now
Perfect, good luck on your build!
Thanks for the video I'm a teacher too. Does it matter what connection type for your main table screen? Is one output more responsive than the others?
Great question! If your doing 1080p at 60hz then it really shouldn't matter but as the resolution goes to 4k and higher refresh rate then You will want to look at the newer versions of hdmi and display port. HDMI, Display Port, and DVI are all digital compared to VGA ( don't use) but DVI is usually only video. With my practice builds I used hdmi and Display Port and both seemed the same at 1080p. Cool, what do you teach?
@@wayofthewrench SPED High school with a maker class. Spectrum / autism students. It's fun (most of the time) lots of projects scattered in. Getting close to finishing my pin cab.
Awesome, are your students helping with the build?
@@wayofthewrench ya getting the cab built but will help with some of the leds and toys. Probably help with painting stencils or decals too. Hope to have a mini pinball club at lunch. Announce the high score on morning bulletin etc. Should be fun.
Yeah that sounds cool. You going for an old electromechanical stencil look eh? That's cool.
late to the party with finally getting everything together to start building my VPM. i followed your video all the way, but when i launch the front end the DMD shows up over top of the play field. what did i do wrong? i lined out everything and saved it.
nevermind... ID10T error 😂😂
Glad you figured it out. You should be able to move the DMD with the mouse and then right click to save its position per table or globally for every table. Cheers!

Not sure about Discord as I joined the Facebook group and it was super easy. There is a link in the introduction video description. Thanks for the watch!
You get it figured out?
TOobad there isnt an all in one package someone has put together for noobs like myself
Dude!!! This is pretty all in one. You should try it the old way with a list of programs and stuff ya had to do. Baller Installer is pretty easy. Just give it a try and you'll be surprised how quick you'll be playing pinball. If ya get stuck, just let me know and I'll help ya out. Cheers!
@@wayofthewrench I really do appreciate it I would try to install it but it would be going on a cabinet that has a horizontal screen green with a bunch of other emulators and stuff so it's not a dedicated pinball cabinet
You can install it, try it, and choose to not open it later. It doesn't auto open up pinup popper unless you set it up that way. If you like it, you can also use pinup popper to open your other emulators as well like MAME. Good luck!
Baller installer has been taken😢
Taken?

pain.
The real pain is setting up all the individual programs the old way. The baller installer is actually pretty awesome and gets ya playing 3 screen virtual pinball fast. Plus you get 2 free ready to play pinball tables. Thanks for the watch!
