Hey, just a suggestion but I think it would be cool to see you build an ecosystem aquarium with its own food web using fauna and micro fauna. I was thinking of adding fairy shrimp and daphnia to my tank and I just want to see how you would work with that.

Love that idea! Working on something right now! Currently working on a botanical method tank that has lots of cyclops in there at the moment. Hardest part with those is making sure the fish don’t deplete the natural food sources haha

How do you get plants to grow in just sand? Is there some sort of trick?

Solid question! While sand is inert and contains no nutrients straight away, over time broken down organic compounds get trapped underneath and create natural foods for roots essentially. Finer sands make this easier to accomplish, I have play sand in this tank. Finer grains help keep things locked in.

Most aquatic plants can feed primarily through the water column. The frogbit in there is feeding from just the water column and looks pretty healthy, meaning there are plenty of nutrients in the water for all the plants to do well regardless of the substrate type.

Prime is my go to for water treatment. Nice to see your desk tank. I grabbed a Fluval Spec V. Cycling it atm and plan to make is a shrimp and snail tank. Plants are going through their submerged phase atm. Keep up the good videos man!

@@WorldofWhasian So far, I like it a lot. Only small complaints really. One is an easy fix the other not so much. You will need a small sponge to go over the inlet for the filter otherwise you'll lose a fair amount of floating food to it due to the design. There's not a great way to put a heater in it unless you modify the main sponge to accommodate or find the smallest one I've ever seen to go inside the reservoir for the pump. Or if you don't care about the lid fighting snugly just put whatever you want in it. It's a very clean design and gives you a lot of space for an interesting direction focused scape.

Curious on your shrimp, I saw those rear shrimp they slowly drip the water to top up the tank but I saw you straight put the water in portion. Different here. So I just confuse , since I saw those shrimp keep top up the water is different from yours. I know you are doing an Eco system here without filter.

Ah okay. I always wondered what “whasian” meant. Makes sense though…now that I know that it’s a contraction of “white” and “asian”. So your mom’s from New York and your dad’s from Taiwan. I had this idea that you live in Canada… now I don’t know where that idea came from. I think you mentioned some Canadian area/province
