I’m not inherently interested in fish, and yet I was ‘glued’ to your documentary… magnificent and humane… and such devotion and hard work to these koi fish.
I appreciate how personal and slow-paced your documentary was. It was peaceful and relaxing, and it connects the watcher to people who live for the beauty of koi like hanging out with new friends and it inspires appreciation for their hard work. You took time and care into your video in all the right ways, so thank you.
@TheKoiPartner Glad you walked away from law enforcement when you did. The reason I enjoy my Koi is it helps me to deal with post traumatic stress from my law enforcement career. Very peaceful. ❤
I've always wanted to visit japan. You took such care in this documentary that I felt kind of like I had been there. So well made. The japanese people seem so kind, intelligent, and hospitable. And the food!!! I could almost smell it. Please make more videos like this, and thank you! I loved hearing that you quit your job to follow your passion.
Brilliant documentary my friend. The Japanese people are master craftsman at everything they do. There pride in what they do is amazing. Beautiful fish.🙏
It's amazing to think that the tiny ones will grow into such spectacular creatures! This is one of the best homemade documentaries I have seen in a very long time. Great work🤩
Hey Evo, great to meet you the other day at torazo with Lee. Can you send me the location of that koi shop to buy misc merc banners etc. I'm here till friday!! Cheers Wade
Yvo, We can't thank you enough for your decade-long enthusiasm and dedication to promote the love of Koi fish around the world. You shall win an Oscar award for Koi documentary films !!!
It is awesome!! This video is considered one of the best videos on breeding KOI..Thank you and those friendly breeders..I did keep Several koi for a small home fish pond..These fishes are gentle sliw swimming..We used to feed them from the hands..They are smart fishes. They recognised their own masters..It is fun and rewarding to keep koi..In tropical country, they need oxygen or bubbles created from the water source..They also eat some selected vegetables and green plant leaves..Thank you again for your sharing.. God Bless everyone..😊❤
Evo what a fantastic insight in to the koi breeding process I can’t believe they can put 3 day old fry in to a mud pond amazing brilliant documentary keep them coming mate All the best
In NZ, a country where the koi carp is treated as a pest, I have always had a strong affinity for the fish. I dream that one day Kiwis can learn to cultivate the koi for its natural beauty which it exudes in huge degrees.
what a wonderful, very personalized documentary of your koi experience in Japan. I was born and raised in Osaka, Japan, so I appreciate your view of the koi farm.
I’ve just found out the fry which don’t get selected are poured into the mature fish enclosures so they can predate on them. Good source of protein and the circle of life 👍
I loved this video...u did a great job...Looks like a lot of hard work and patience. Beautiful fish...very interesting watching the breeding process. .I'd like to see the fish show/ compitition for how they pick the best Koi of the year, and what they base it on....Japan is so wonderfully beautiful....and I love their food too...Maybe someday i can visit Japan. .I live in the USA...Oregon...used to live in California...My good friend, had a Koi pond with beautiful fish ..its to cold in winter where i live, it gets below freezing, 18-24 degrees in winter with snow and ice, so i cant have a fish pond...Thank u for sharing....
The poise, elegance and respect this video has for the breeders and koi is awsome. Its an amazing insight to care and attention that breeeders put into the care.
I always think of Japan as being a very busy, crowded city. This place is like heaven. This looks like our country .. in the country!😊 soooo calm and serene.
I'm into minnows and plecos but I watched your whole documentary, barely remembering to breathe. Thank you for this fascinating window in the mystery that is koi!
Thanks, Yvo for making your koi documentary. Very comprehensive, love how it’s all been put together and is complemented by the excellent choice of music. Well done, regards Stephen.
The quality of your videos shows us that you Love what you do. Thank you for sharing such amazing experience and marvelous fishes with us. Best wishes brother!
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL fish! I never knew they lived for so long. I never knew they changed color from the black carp to the colorful Koi. Thank you for sharing!!! 💛💛💛
The quality of the videos rises up to a higher level with each one. The biggest "problem" is that you need/want so much info in a short amount of time. Maybe it is an idea to make several (a series) of documentaries in which you follow a koi breeder throughout the year. You now have an excellent relation with some breeders which allow you to follow their activities. throughout the year. Maybe make a documentary for each step they do in the breeding of koi. The separate documentaries might be a bit shorter, but as a whole they might be the gemstone everybody is waiting for. Some steps I can think of are: preparing a mud pond, from dry, clean, (maybe chicken manure) and filling (how is it done and why? are there differences between breeders/regions), what do they do after the koi have left the pond, how do they clean it? Breeding the koi, How do they choose the oyagoi? natural or artificial breeding, the selections, what do they look for in various steps in the selection process. Maybe this info for some different varieties? What does happen with the koi that do not pass the selection, when really small. and what happens when they are already a little bigger (12cm+)? Older koi: How does the breeder select the koi he wants to grow to nisai, sansai and even older. What does a breeder look for when selecting/holding back potential oyagoi? How are the oyagoi kept in top condition for breeding? Buying a koi, what has to be done to get your fish abroad. prepare the koi for shipment/transport, pack the koi, transport them by truck, plane, van/car, customs/vetrenary. what kind of paperwork do you need to fill in? And maybe a longer documentary on selecting a koi. what do you look for with examples of the really good fish, but maybe even more important the koi where it is not the best. This is always very difficult to understand. Why? because "they" always show you the "perfect" koi, but if you have no comparison, it's more difficult to understand. Of course you do not need to bother the breeder every time for a "interview" they have enough to do without you asking them questions all the time. but when you do you might wanna use subtitles. For one because their English is not always the best, but more importantly, you often have a lot of background noise from the ponds which it more difficult to understand and follow. Again, keep up the good videos you are making, they are very informative and of excellent quality!
A wonderful documentary about a national treasure in Japan. I knew about the importance of koi but didn't know they lived so long or grew so very large! I will watch part two and look forward to more of your work. You've clearly achieved a level of trust in this rarified community. I wish I could visit your friend's shop, it looks great. Thank you.
What an amazing video! I live in Taiwan and have a bunch of Japanese friends. Well, it's basically around the corner. I can so relate to what you said in the beginning... about a peaceful and structured place. It's so fascinating. Thank you so much for this wonderful documentary!
Very well done! The video is both informative and relaxing. You have a great narration style. It's very impressive that you and the breeders have developed a relationship that makes them willing to allow you behind the scenes. Looking forward to more.
Thank you for this documentary! It is so interesting knowing how raising and caring for the Koi is so complicated. All the steps, love and care that goes into fostering them so that eventually they can go into someone’s beautiful pond.❤
Excellent video Yvo, very professionally done. It's nice to see that you're so welcome at the koi breeders facilities and in their homes, they seem like lovely people. Without your warm approach we wouldn't have access to this fascinating footage. It would be great to have some technical information occasionally like ph values, temperature fluctuations etc. Many thanks.
What a great documentary. I’m kind of surprised that an amateur could create content of such quality. I’ve never had an interest in koi but that was so enjoyable and interesting and well produced that it seemed to go by in a flash. Your passion is heartfelt and I look forward to seeing more of your content. Well done. 👍🏼
Ivo. Ik volg je al vanaf het begin. Elke keer zie ik dat je het weer beter doet dan de vorige. Nu moet ik zeggen dat deze docu echt een enorme stap omhoog is. Wat een kwaliteit. Goed gedaan.!!
It's a rare treat to watch your videos, so well done.
