In my view, these ideas directly align with minimalism, especially concerning the simplification of life and work.

I really love these two… the best duo … thanks Cal for your wisdom, you humbleness and your practical and clear message, and last but not least thanks Jesse.. because you are down earth and calm, that makes the perfect combo.

I had alot of trouble coming out of flow state and into "admin" state for years. What helps me now is that I seperate the days into flow days and admin days. Some people may not be able to do this due to a strict schedule but if you can, I found this to help so much mentally and productively.

    Enjoyed this format.
Where is this? Was it open to the public? Do you announce in advance when you are holding a podcast with an audience?

Minorities and women will often be seen as bellhops and needing to contort their work so that their fellow team members can "optimize". They will be seen as service providers or support staff even when they are "knowledge workers".
Women and Minorities likely won't be allowed to work with continuity for more than 90 minutes. And when I say allowed to, I mean colleagues and bosses don't grumble about it or turn it into a "performance issue".

100%. I'm a minority woman. I have to apply Cal's principles to my personal projects instead. My job literally went from being one of me having control to me being a secretary. It's getting even more like that. I'm offended but not enough to go "above and beyond" for a company that doesn't truly value me This is why I need to start my own business and put my energy and efforts into that.
It was estimated that most women will be self employed by 2040 and the point you made is the reason why.
Those people who are left, who get to do interesting work, will likely then outsource support roles to AI (not even other countries, like some are doing now). I feel sorry for people in those countries.

I’m an African American woman with 20+ years and counting in knowledge, and when I say this was my battle of all battles! This may sound offensive (it was when I first heard it lol), but here it is: give yourself permission to go past that belief. Now, don’t wait until the circumstances change. Because you’ve figured out a way to exist in a situation that deeply frustrates you, your mind and body have adjusted to it as “the way it is” and stopped looking for solutions anymore. You’ll recreate the situation in whatever you do next - even your own business. Until you give yourself self permission to go past it. Even though others deal with, you give yourself permission to go past that belief for you. I wish for you so much joy in your work 🌻

A great episode, fun to see them in a casual environment! Does anyone know what software/app Cal uses for keeping track of his research when he's compiling resources for writing? I believe he mentioned it in an episode but I can't find it.

Probably roam research. Could be obsidian, capacities or any bi-directional linking note taking platform. Dont get stuck in the busy work that it can become to choose and test each system. Chose the one that feels the most intuitive and then go with that for the next 6 months. Don't spend all of your time setting up your notes app, just get to the valuable stuff.

He uses Scrivener for general writing and I believe Overleaf (cloud LaTeX editor) for papers.
I think Markdown based systems like Obsidian or similar are pretty good. And if you don't like one, you could switch to a different Markdown system. Also your notes are always in plain text and easy to backup, version control, search using regular file or command line search, open in a regular text editor, and easy to convert to other formats

@Saffronelle *PURE SPECULATION:* One mike for PA system so people in the room can hear; the other mike is for making this recording for UA-cam. I've done this many times as a rudimentary setup during hybrid Zoom/in-person meetings when I don't have a mixing board available to split the input to two destinations. Hope you have a great day. God bless.

All the ads are so annoying. Many of us pay premium so we aren’t inundated with ads and yet these get shoved down our throats all the time. So many of them and so long . Ugh. Will we now have to pay premium premium premium to avoid these inserted ads?

this is the only one i’ve seen that doesn’t have chapters where you can just tap the one after the ad (I’m guessing since this was livestreamed)

Enough of the sexism, please. I doubt you make such stupid comments about men. Also the fact that you have the attention span of a toddler when you're dealing with a Cal Newport video is astonishing. Social media has turned your brain to rot.
