You should keep putting the poop in the litter box so that he sees that there's poop in there and he will eventually realize that that's where he goes to the bathrooms

Fakiha Tariq I have that same problem! I think it’s because my rabbit isn’t fixed/spayed/neutered. She’s 2 years old and pees amazingly in her litter box, but when it comes to poop, she only poops in her litter box when she’s conveniently in it. I’ve searched all over the internet and I guess I need her fixed, but my family thinks it’s stupid to get her fixed. :(

2 days ago, I adopted a rabbit from my local humane society. At the humane society she was in a small pet store cage. She could barely move and when she pooped or peed she’d have to sit in in. I took her in a 2x5 c+c cage so that she could litter trained. She immediately went to the litter box and hasn’t had any accidents. Now that she has more space she keeps everything so tidy. Once she is done with her toys she piles them up in the corner ❤️ I think today I might introduce her to free roaming today and keep the cage on standby just in case she wasn’t as litter trained as I thought.
Thank you, your videos are amazing! Your the reason my rabbit will live an amazing life.

I have two rabbits, one is a small female and is very clean and never pees or poops out of the box, the other is a large dutch and pees and poops everywhere, he pees right next to the boxes, in tunnels around the edges of the room we have them in. They are both free range buns and have access to a medium sized lounge room and out onto a terrace during warmer days. I know I'm going to have to shut him in a smaller space to re-train him, but should I put them both in? Any advice for this? They are bonded but have disagreements every now and then, and yeah he gets mad and randomly pees haha. I feel like all I do is clean up his pee 😩

I soon will take my rabbit to get fixed soon and I'm starting to litter box train her and she, for the most part, tends to pee and poo in her liter box.
My set up is a have a master bedroom and the bathroom is connected to my room. My closet is in the bathroom and her literbox and hidy house is in the closet. I sleep on the floor on a soft pad because it's better for my back. The issue is she climbs on my bed and my couch and she poops on them so much! Sometimes pees on my blankets and I noticed she has such sass about it. So now I'm making sure she knows who top bun is (me) by putting her in a short three minute time out if she poops on my bed or couch, I enclose her in her pen/closet with a gate.
It's kinda hard because I want her to get enough exercise so that's why I let her run in my room.
When I'm asleep and at work I keep her in the bathroom so she's not peeing on carpet. She does soooo well to not pee or poop outside her liter box when she is in the bathroom.
I'll see if it works, I'm being really anal about it so she understands that it's not ok to poop on my things.
She's so sneaky and territorial it's hard to keep my eyes on her the entire time, because it's as if she knows as soon as I look away for a minute she poops. What a little turd butt! Gotta love her though. ❤️

I have to partially re-train my rabbit because when the pet sitter was here Lily started just giving up 50% of her habits including peeing. Normally she has 3-8 poops 6-12 inches away from the litter box daily but it was everywhere. Luckily she's getting back to normal. She isn't spayed but other than that I haven't had many problems since 3 months old.

He has already familiarized himself with and uses the litter box which is setup with hay piled high in one half and litter in the other half because I heard that bunnies tend to poop while they eat. The problem is he eats his pellets from his dish that is outside of the litter box and poops everywhere. Also, what do you suggest for a bunny who, when in his cage, will use the litter box, but once we open the cage into his enclosure, he immediately starts pooping on the floor? That aside, we don't have hardwood floors, so its a bit more difficult to clean =\

1:30... Litter trained my rabbit, never neutered or spayed, he never had an accident either. He DID mark my aunt tho when she visited lol! On her head while she was sleep!^^ Good thing she had a wig on lol!! And u must know, they have 2 different shits, one to eat and another to waste, he always did that and pissed in the litter. A tip tho, if he's free roam (like mine was), it's a good idea to put SMALL ones (yes, small, trust me..) around like, next to ur toilet and one in his get away from all cage. Cage meaning, a big cage with door completely removed, furnished with a water bottle, something to bite, a big bowl and treats, maybe a blanket over the top, so he can freely go and come as pleased. He'll use his main litter box as such, and throuhgt the day use the otehrs too, they're funny lil guys when u give them their freedom thru the house.
If u play with them long enough, they'll bond, and u can let them loose outside, without leash, and they won't stray far, u may have to trick them to even get them out the house, and they'll run in when spooked or sumn. Even b4, they'll slam their foot on the ground if they feel danger is near.

I adopted two bunnies from a family who got a dog two years ago. I tried everything under the sun to get them litter trained. They do use the litter box but at the same time they do their business all over their territory, they don't just have one preferred spot. Another problem is that they don't want to hop on any slippery surface. So I have to use mats to make them move around. Honestly, I'm at my wit's end. I had bunnies before, my mum has - they were/are all "clean" and use only the litter box. I'd be really happy for some advice.

I don't have the space for it now, but if and when I am able to move out of my parent's house, I am debating between a Rabbit and a Uromastyx as a pet. It would likely be weird not having a dog, unless it will be possible too, but they both seem like the most ideal options for me as a Vegan that also wants relatively easy maintenance that is also big enough to handle without fear of somehow losing them in random crevices (i would worry about that if I owned hamsters or mice). Unfortunately, I am not financially stable enough to move out in New York.

    • @bunnybat9515
      @bunnybat9515 7 років тому +8

Rabbits are most active at dawn and dusk. They sleep most of the day. If your rabbit room has wood floors buy a large rug or two, slippery floors deter rabbits from moving the way they should due to the lack of grip with their pad-less paws. Make sure he has lots of toys. Cat tunnels, plastic baby keys, cardboard boxes, hay mats, and more. Bunnies love exploring so be sure to switch up toys and where the boxes/hide outs are placed.
Single rabbits tend to be lonely and get bored easily. Rabbits are very social animals and nothing can compare to a rabbit partner. They are awake at the same times of day, speak the same body language, groom, cuddle, and are more confident when exploring when they have a friend. If possible it's not a bad idea to talk to your local rabbit rescue about doing a date and find your rabbit a partner to spend his days with.

Just got my Holland lop this past Sunday and he is only 10 weeks old and is sooo good with his litter already it’s crazy, only peed on his fleece bedding once and since then he only pees in the litter box, he mostly poops in the litter with a few little ones outside 🤍🐰

Do you still think pine pellets are safe? Ive read you don't want to use pine shavings.. I think aspen is recommended. Is there a differenfe between pellets and shavings in terms of safety?

My holland lop will mark every now and then still even though he has been neutered 2 yrs now. He's my only bun ( out of 4) that does this. Just little pee dribbles in his favourite lounging spots in my house. I just clean it with vinegar water. Don't think he will ever outgrow that though. He's pretty territorial and leaves coco puffs and chins everything in sight too.

My rabbit was litter trained when I got him from my friend then I tried switching him to pine pellet litter (he was using hay) and now he WONT use the litter box!! I’ve been putting his dropping in the box but still nothing! I’m so frustrated!

    • @meghaduggineni3715

The reason for that is because your rabbit's diet should mostly consist of hay. Rabbits poop when they eat, but they aren't constantly going to eat pine pellets

I bought my rabbits two weeks ago, had them enclosed in a 4 x 4 feet space so I can potty train them. Three days later I gave them 10 x 7 feet of space . They pee in there tray, but they still poop outside the tray. They were born in July, females, not spayed yet.
Any recommendations or tips to stop the poop would be highly appreciated

  • @violet3430

Yeah putting up a gate really works! Same with the poop. I just set it there, and hopefully get a chance to grab them before they poop on my carpet. Then I put them in the litter box, and my bunny’s got it pretty quickly :)

Thank you so much for your videos they are very helpful! I do have two question for you if i may, how do i get rid of my rabbit's hair knots. I try to brush him but time doesnt permit it too often and i find a lot of knots on him mostly around the butt or stomach area. Also he tents to sometimes lay on his pee, he is white and he gets stained yellow how can i get rid of that? I have tried safe wipes, and corn starch but nothing... what could i do?

Hi and thanks for a useful video. I like the idea of hay above the rabbit rather than in its litter box as I don't like the idea of his food mixing with his poo. Please can you clarify that hay is not necessary IN the litter box if it's above it?
For small breeds like mini lops or Netherland dwarf should the litter box be smaller? Just wondering if the sides will be too high for them to get in.
Do you need one litter box per rabbit or can they share? If you have two dwarf rabbits can they share one large box?
What's your take on covered boxes that have an entrance? Some people have suggested that rabbits feel safer in such boxes, and of course it's a cleaner option since the poo is not exposed and the smell is contained.
Last but not least, if you put the litter box in a particular corner during training, can you move it afterward? Or will they associate litter with the corner rather than the box? We are planning to set up the pen in the kitchen initially as we have the most space there, but our long-term aim is free roaming bunnies who simply hop to the litter whenever needed. We don't want the litter boxes permanently in the kitchen. Once the bunnies are trained we'd like to move the boxes to the laundry room, out of the way of the rest of the house. The laundry room is attached to the kitchen and we'll leave the door open so the bunnies can access 24/7 but at least the box will be out of our daily sight. Is that doable?

Im in the process to litter training my 10 year old bunny since he just moved inside. He is a pretty stiff and old man so he isn’t really stable while he walks. So I need to keep the floor soft so he doesn’t slipp. So I don’t know what to do about the absorbent stuff in his cage/my room

How long would a 20 lb Feline Pine bag last? What about the 40 lb wood stove pellets? I have a 2lb dwarf bunny and I change his litter every 2 days. His litter box is 12in x 10in. 😊
I’m running out of my current litter (aspen) and need to know which product is worth it since I do live in a student apartment for the next 6 months and I wouldn’t wanna buy something that’s too big to carry when I move unless it’s worth it. So if anyone could let me know how long they last you I’d greatly appreciate it! 💞

Hi Haley, thanks for all your amazing videos! I am getting two bunnies that are 2 months old and they can't be spayed for a while. What do I do about them going to the bathroom? Do I put newspaper down in their pen and only let them run around the house once they are old enough?

Thanks for the tips. I am trying to retrain my bunny as I am downsizing her area when we move (she is free roam most day but is penned at night/when we’re out the room for long time as she has recently started peeing on settee). I now have a corner litter box which was previously in her bigger tray and she sometimes used it. She does not seem to be taking to it and instead seems to have held in all her urine just to pee on a cushion....I have put the cushion in her litter tray to try encourage her but do you think maybe the size is an issue and she would prefer a longer box? (Like a cat litter tray size or something)

I just got my bunny very recently. I’m having only a slight issue with litter box training. I have a 2 by 4 c&c cage that she’s in when I’m asleep and at work otherwise she is completely free roamed. When I have the cage open and she’s out and about she will run back to her cage to potty. She doesn’t go anywhere in the house and is great about this. This is great since I’ve had her less than a week and I think she lived in a small cage before me. Her litter box is in her cage and she pees mostly in it but poops anywhere in the cage. It’s contained just to the cage but I’m not sure on how to keep it just to the litter box. She’s 4 months so I can’t spay her yet. Any ideas?
