    The parcel hook is a lifesaver if you're disabled. I have osteo and rheumatoid arthritides and my hand strength is just about nil. The hook is useful for opening tabbed cans. I also use mine to tie knots (and untie them) because my fingers just can't do it anymore. You should check out Felix Immler's video on uses for the hook.

    Preheating the scales (with warm water) would help softening them, therefore it would be easier to install the new ones. Thanks for the video!

  • @jackellock7113
    @jackellock7113 Рік тому +21

    You're supposed to soak the knife in hot water for a few minutes to soften the plastic so the scales don't crack.

      @@jackellock7113 Really really hot water may effect a blade’s sharpness. I was talking about victorinox scales specifically. If you leave them in boiling water for even a few minutes they will melt.

      @@MichaelB2Lyep I needed to learn this the hard way too. But you can throw the scales in boiling water again for a couple of seconds and then press them flat unter a book or so. So I safes my transparent light blue scales 😀

    I'm actually considering grinding my hook into a point so I can use it as an awl. An awl in place of the hook would make this tool perfect.

    That’s the parcel hook. Has a few uses but it’s pretty crap apart from the file, so handy for that. The hook can be used to hold the pen for easy use and I’ve seen someone file the top of it where you clip it out
    Into a little flat head. Would be great to swap out for the screwdriver on the 58mm. Enjoy paddy’s day!

      Thanks for the heads up. I’ve seen people wedging the pen in but completely forgot. I’m going to have to change it for a Philips at some point. 🍀

      @@MarcusCreates only other thing to note is that the parcel hook on the compact is unique, it has a small file on its spine. Personally I’d change out of the corkscrew for a Philips drive.

      You can add a 3 mm(I think it's 3 mm) magnet to the parcel hook t magnetise the pin to find Mag North ( floating on a leaf in a cup of water....Felix Immler trick, he's a SAK Legend. Right up there with MacGyver 👍🤣👍🤣

    Apparently the wire bender works well with the ferrocerium rod to throw sparks but I do not have one to confirm this. The hook holds the pen in place so may be worth keeping since my handwriting is bad enough with normal writing instruments.🇨🇦

    Typically i carry a Cybertool L.
    I've made 1 cm markings on the file, using a pencil. The graphite persists quite well in the rough structure of the file and helps me to do rough measurements. It cannot replace a proper ruler or calipers, but helps to decide if there is a known discrete set of possible values.
    Something like, "is this a 18mm, 20mm or 22mm bolt?" can be answered with those markings.
    Near the base of the screwdriver of the Cybertool there is some empty space. There i keep a small neodymium magnet. On other models it can be fit into the corkscrew instead of the firestarter

    Your Compact looks great! The back side Philips may look good they don't work very well. Did you know the corner of your combo tool works on Philips screws? Not perfect but it works. Years ago I came up with a better solution I made an inline 1/4 bit exchanger that fits on the combo tool made from a 1/4 inch square drive to a 1/4 inch hex bit adapter. I carry it in the bottom of my front pocket with a Philips bit in it. If you are interested in seeing it let me know It is an easy DIY project.
