    Scissors with blunt nose are supposed to be ok per TSA, BUT... Always travel with a self-addressed stamped priority mail envelop on board, so that they can mail it to you rather than confiscate it. NEVER let them "take" it. Also a good idea to download TSA rules, print and highlight them for distribution to the "unwise" officer who doesn't know the rules.

    • @FittoSurvive
      @FittoSurvive  2 роки тому +43

      There are several things that "should" pass TSA, but the self addressed envelop is definitely the best contingency plan.

      That’s actually a great idea. They might still “forget” to mail it, but better a slim chance than an outright confiscation. (I got an empty lighter confiscated, even though TSA rules were clear that it’s OK to pack.)

    It's as if the Havalon was meant for SAK, just the perfect fit,
    Imagine a surgeon/paramedic/doctor/nurse orders one of these custom from you and happens to use it in an emergency situation.... That would be the epitome of EDC usefulness! Awesome work as usual!
    I thought TSA doesn't allow anything sharp edged or pointy ? That goes for the can opener, scissors, corkscrew yes hmm, intresting to know they aren't

    • @matthewstrunk605
      @matthewstrunk605 2 роки тому +8

      The Transportation Security Administration currently states that corkscrews without blades are acceptable in carry-on bags, while those with small blades must be placed in a checked bag (as with any sharp object, they prefer it be sheathed or wrapped to prevent baggage handlers and inspectors from being injured). Scissors, if packed in carry-on, they must be less than 4 inches from the pivot point. Any sharp objects in checked bags should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors.

      Don't knives fly in hold luggage ?

    • @doubledrats235
      @doubledrats235 2 роки тому +1

      For a knife like that I would put it in checked luggage or travel with a stamped and self addressed bubble wrap envelope and mail it to myself from the airport if the TSA gave me grief. I had a Compact SD SAK on my key ring when I travelled back and forth many times between NYC and Orlando and never had an issue. Until one day when I tossed my keys into the bin to be X-rayed and the loud clunk alerted a TSA agent. She opened the knife and said the sharp blade was not allowed in carry on. My wife gave me a dirty look since she didn’t want to miss the flight so I gave up the knife and bought a new one for $20 when we got home. I heard that the TSA sells some confiscated items. I wonder if they pocket some nice ones. I now put my SAK in checked luggage.

    • @orenmontgomery8250

      Yeah, at that point it would be reschedule and mail it because I'm not handing that over.

    What a great build ! , I don’t know if you or the customer came up
    with that idea but it is genius. Now if some over zealous TSA agent
    doesn’t take it away. There should be away to submit tools to an
    authorizing board or person that would issue a permit authorizing
    the item to be carried onboard an aircraft.

    saddest thing when travelling - for me as a swiss - is you have to leave your SAK at home (you never know when it is legal to carry it around in the destination-country)
    it's realy a shame that victorinox doesn't come up with a solution like this for their Traveller series on their own. luckily there are people like you doing this :)

    • @FittoSurvive

Btw - do you know a customizer in Switzerland who could make the Rescuetool into "41a compatible" (german weapons-law, article 41a. the most restrictive in europe - a knife legal by 41a is legal everywhere in europe)? (replacing the onehand-blade and linelock with a twohand-blade without lock)? Victorinox can do it but charges more than the 41a-compatible but discontinued version of the rescue-tool did cost...

    Hi 🤗
    Thankyou so much for this video. I have a standard swiss champ and a swiss voyager that basically has the same digital watch scale and pen/pick ect scale shape.
    I'm.looking to fit the pair of scales to the champ body. The scary part is removing the scales without cracking them as they are dicontinued and very rare. The other challange making holes on the layer for the scale to seat true. I'm going to do this without removing the rivets, so its going to be long tricky work with the dremel.
    I also noticed you was able to snap back on the scales with very little damage to the rivet holes ! Very nice work.
    Any tips for me 🤔

    • @FittoSurvive
      @FittoSurvive  2 роки тому

      Hey! Glad. That you enjoyed the video. Removing the scales has to be done slowly and carefully. You don't want to damage the scales, but also there are electronics that protrude on the back of the scale that you dony want to damage either.
      Making holes on the Swisschamp liner REALLY is going to be quite the challenge. You might want to measure them up before you start, because if u remember correctly the liner that goes next to the on board computer is a bit thicker, don't know if that will cause you any trouble or not...
      My advice, take it slow, work your way around the rivets. Don't just force from one side. I can't really give any advice about making holes in the liner...

      Humble tip for keychain carry on custom builds with no keyring loop;
      Just hook the small ring to the hook-tool and close it. It allmost closes and is in my opinion more than secure enough to hang from....
      So if you attach the small keyring to your bigger keyset, you can unhook and hook the knife easily by just pullin in the right direction...
      It is atleast a makeshift solution if needed on the go that is worth a mental note....☺️

      Thank you! I am from the States, but my job has currently taken me overseas to central Asia.
      I ship worldwide though.

    Do you have any alternative for using 2 saw spring. Because I don't have any 91mm Victorinox lying around but I want to try this mod.

      The only alternative I know of is 3 fish descaler springs.

    how to wash up this knife, it's water resisted?

      I am not certain. But I do not think that the electronics in the scale are waterproof. So, I would definitely not submerge it in water. Washing the tools individually and washing between the tools with a moist tooth brush would be the best option.
