    I ordered from Earthy Delights last year best pawpaw I've had so far. I'll finally be getting fruits from my own trees next year with 3 fruiting trees and nine more on the way pretty soon I'll have more then I know what to do with.

    I guess they got some more in because I just placed an order. Now see what you did! Its been about 30 years since I last ate pawpaw. They were wild ones I found. Some were very good eating. Some were very seedy and not worth bothering with. It was always hard to find them when they were ripe. But this year I finally planted some pawpaw trees- grafted cultivars as well as seed grown.

      I agree on wild ones. They are fun to find but once you're used to the cultivated varieties most of the wild ones are lacking. They tend to taste bitter to me.

    Bob Johnson of Nektar Flow Farms has a large pawpaw farm along the Wabash River. They have lots of KSU Chappell, plus lots of Peterson & KSU cultivars.

      Had a couple trees in my garden. Super easy to grow. Some varieties grow larger fruit and larger tree. Best to have a couple different varieties. After they fruit you will also see babies coming up so you only need a few trees to start. If just for yourself, too many trees will result in more fruit than you can eat.

    Whoa those delivered well!!! I’m gonna have to order me some of those when they restock!!!

      Definitely worth it! They pack them incredibly well, and only ship overnight air, so they are still cold when you get them. Pricey, but then again we used to drive to the festival in York, PA, get a hotel, go out to dinner, then buy fruit, so it's not so bad when you think of it that way.

    I heard one big challenge with pawpaws is that they won't ripe once they are off the tree, they are not like bananas . So, don't understand how this shipping works since some look really not ripe

    • @captiveroots3037
      @captiveroots3037  5 місяців тому

      They will ripen off the tree as long not as they're fully developed. That's the key. If picked too early then they'll soften but never get ripe.

    Those are beautiful fruit! Not over ripe. Looking nice! I’m jealous! I drove all the way to Ohio festival this year and it was disappointing something SERIOUS for pawpaw. Got to taste some way overripe/over priced wild ones. Not good. But I made a cake and icing with the pulp. That came out really good.

    • @captiveroots3037
      @captiveroots3037  9 місяців тому

      That's great that the cake came out well! I hear you on the festivals. It used to be a road trip we looked forward to, and a whole experience that ended with the chance to taste test and buy a whole bunch of pawpaws. Now it's become so big that it's more about everything else and you're lucky to get a couple of fruits. We really just went there for the fruit itself...we can buy all the local honey, crafts, or necklaces we want right here in NY!

    I going to start selling pawpaws next year. Only named cultivars and they will be labeled. $50 a pound! Im going to be rich 🤑😂

    • @captiveroots3037

      I did see someone selling them for $25 a pound and they sold out in hours. Crazy!

      @@captiveroots3037 Exactly! Its supply and demand. And my niche will be each fruit will be labeled. People want to know what they are eating. They want to know which cultivars they actually enjoys and pick that cultivars specifically.

    • @encygrowpedia
      @encygrowpedia 9 місяців тому +2

      That was me 😅 I still think it was very reasonable considering they were the best pawpaws transported from 800 miles away to arrive in top condition in a state where cultivar fruits are not available. Even more so considering Ohio festival was selling wild fruits munched on by critters for $30/lb. Also I think being able to know the cultivar of each fruit carries significant value.

    • @captiveroots3037
      @captiveroots3037  9 місяців тому +1

      @@encygrowpedia for sure! It just shows where the market is and what the demand for good quality fruit is too. I would have purchased some even at that price because of being able to know the cultivar if we were closer than NY!

    you need to try: IXL, Chappell, Susquehanna, (KSU Hi 7-1), Tropical Treat, Mango, Maria's Joy, Kentucky Champion, Nyomi's Delicious, (Mammoth X), Canopus, Regulus, Summer Delight VE-21

    So when you order them they don't tell you the variety? Glad you got some great fruit to start more trees!

    • @captiveroots3037
      @captiveroots3037  9 місяців тому +1

      From what I understand there's no way for them to know... they just get deliveries from farms and those are always a mix

  • @10putty
    @10putty 9 місяців тому +1

    I was hoping you were going to guess maybe the variety, the big delishish one, could that have been Susquehanna? A lot of people say that is the best of the best. Do you weigh the biggest one? This was a good episode, thanks!

    • @captiveroots3037
      @captiveroots3037  9 місяців тому

      Thank you! It's so hard to tell variety without at least an idea of the possibilities, if that makes sense. Whatever variety it was it was amazing! Could have been Susquehanna or maybe Overleese but honestly a lot of the named varieties are quite similarly delicious.
