I take a look at a cheap antenna from China it only cost £2.10 so I was not expecting much and I was not disappointed!

Thanks for the video. However I have one comment regarding testing directional antennas vs. omnidirectional. I don't think you should apply the same methodology for testing them. I would consider directional antenna that picks up many access points beaming from whichever direction a failure. So judging directional antennas by how many access points they pick up is not correct. What perhaps could be tested with them in the future is how strong signal they pick up from a specific access point if pointed towards it. As an example in this video when you compare two antennas at around 9:50 mark. If you look at the screen - the modified cheap chinese picks up BTHub4-25QT a little bit stronger than the other antenna. The rest of the access points show much weaker signal than the other antenna. If one would only be interested in picking up that specific access point it would not be half bad. Just some suggestions for the future tests.

was about to buy that adapter ,there was no feedback around about the range etc , so while i was checking all of ur videos , since i know u test some wifi antennas , i foud it :D , thank you , you saved me

You have established that this antenna isn't very good but my question is at 2w at each end on an antenna tracker, would it outperform a dipole on the same power or is it so poor that its not worth using at all?
I ordered one of these from china to try but then came across your video , glad it was only £3!

    1. This is a directional antenna. Shouldn't you aim it at a specific target antenna and look at the gain, vs just a general out-the-window?
    2. This antenna obviously isn't tuned for 2.4 GHz WiFi, even if that's what the packaging says. If you use it at the design frequency, it seems like it has great potential for the price. Do you have a antenna analyzer you can put on it to see what the actual resonant frequency is?

    Nice video!
But didn't you say that there would be a link to your other video?

A pity we didn't see the performance without the short.... I have one of these - unmodified - and found it works surprisingly well!

+Kingsway Driving - Richard King ADI To be honest the short was the main problem that and poor build quality

+andrew mcneil As a matter of interest, I also bought a little white yagi ant. like the one you recently reviewed, and this dish one appeared to work almost as well as the yagi - only a couple of percent down. If I get the chance, I'd like to try your mod, with the wider spacing and see if I can improve it further!

I tried the modification and at best the signal was slightly worse than before, ended up putting it back as original. For the money it's not bad.

Hmm... Interesting, how make it sound so simple and jet for some reason they didn't make a good antenna. It makes me wonder how much it would raise the price if they did make a better quality product, because it seems like the difference in signal would be worth the price difference several times... Thank you for sharing.

As I expected really .. like most things from China ..just not worth the hassle ..I've had quite a few from China that promises 'high power" / "high performance" ..etc ..yeah yeah ..what ever ..they all been crap ..you get what you pay for ... Saying that I did get a alpha directional antenna and that was crap too tbh ..unless was a fake ? It's possible I guess
