Chicagoan here: The first video occurred in Oak Lawn, IL. The 17 year old is of Middle East nationality. Immediately, his mom and a community of people held a press conference condemning the police of racism. A day later, the truth came out about the gun, and there was no further comment from his mother.

In my hometown during my teens, there was a big rivalry between the Sherriffs and the city police. There was a yearly baseball game between them (Fire Dept too) that got more attention than it deserved due to the known issues (Two officers from each dept were ticketed. One deserved, and the other was believed to be retaliatory. That led to more issues. The game that year ended up in a big brawl that other people had to break up. I remember a lot of jokes afterwards about who was supposed to arrest them for the assault and batteries. 😂
Watching two cops fight over authority and threaten to arrest each other is the best cops video ever.

So I found a backstory to the sheriff video… supposedly the cops have been going out of the city limits jurisdiction and doing traffic stops and that’s why the sheriff interrupted because that traffic stop wasn’t in the cops jurisdiction.
If the dude was speeding in the city, and the cop caught up to his ass out of city limits; is he just not allowed to give you a ticket?
Even if he had a valid point, that's just not a professional way to deal with it!
I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure whether your a sheriff or a city cop your police powers are ultimately derived from the state, not the city or county so as long as the state border isn’t crossed there shouldn’t be any jurisdictional issues with them pursuing someone outside of their jurisdiction.
Regardless, it’s not professional to get into an argument in public on the side of the road during a traffic stop. Really if has to happen it’s the type of thing that should happen between the sheriff himself and the chief or someone else in the command staff at the station.
@Cecrops as I remember from old tv shows when you're running from the cops and they hit the state line the cop jams the brakes and cranks hard left. They're more or less obligated to get out of the car, look over the roof and slap their hat against the car as you speed away. Pretty standard stuff.
Hiawassee is a podunk northeast Georgia mountain town. There's a lot of corruption in county departments in some of those areas. It wouldn't surprise me if the speeder wasn't either a buddy, politician, or someone the sheriff owed a favor.

Out here in the rural Midwest all we really have are the county sheriffs on occasion and a state police officer every once in a blue moon

Same here where I am, the County PD, City PD AND University PD all have joint task forces and SWAT. But even with that, no one has any problems with the county/city sheriff’s office😂😂

I took an intro to criminal justice class, a pro tip my teacher shared was that you needed to appear professional in front of a parolee/suspect. I can say the same is true when parents disagree in front of their kids; my generation has very little respect for authority because of the high divorce rate! Knowing this it would have been best to have that argument away from the civilian vehicle.

The sheriffs office was losing money on the stop for their pockets/retirement. It happens a lot around here. Ticket kickbacks was pretty common in the south back in the day until they get caught and have to say they sorry and we get a new sheriff who does the same thing as the last one.
