start small; best advice ever. It is a huge learning curve if someone has never done online sales before. Learning about rare colours, knowing conditions, pricing that fits your goals, acquiring shipping materials and shipping bands, getting storage solutions, developing a system... I can't imagine doing all that with 50k parts right off the hop. I opened with 8k and was totally overwhelmed!
I really like this video. I'm 45 and absolutely love Lego. I thought I would buy sets and hold on to them but then I quickly realized I had 10K of Lego but was paranoid to open any of them and ruin the value. So I started on Facebook Market place buying bins of used sets thay people were selling cause their kids moved away. Alot of times they were dusty and I began to clean them and dry them reassemble to make sure all parts are there. Now I want to start an eBay account to sell those sets. Alot are retired. So it's almost a way that I can still have so much fun with Lego but don't have to open the most recent sealed sets I have stored. Anyway I think this video is great. U have a new subscriber.
Thanks for sharing!! I’m just a guy who can’t afford his Lego hobby and have resorted to the bricks/sets that Dollar Tree sells. I’ve had some older sets (80’s) that I’ve sold and paid for my new purchases. This got me thinking about doing this on a small scale. My time management sucks so I’ll never be able to grow it to a full time gig without making a mess of my life but I do watch for deals at garage sales and thrift stores. I just got a 10-12 set lot for $30 that I can probably sell for $120+. It will be a slow turn around as I complete the sets, build them, photograph and post them to sell but it will teach me different techniques and part usage as the lots have sets I would never buy on their own. Your video was encouraging and helpful even for me as some of it applies regardless of the scale you are trying but/sell at. Keep at it! We’ll keep watching. Thanks.
Great suggestions. Going with used Lego to start will get your reselling started much faster. Buying already retired sets and pieces will make them have value and limit the competition. I sell primarily new sets with a little bit of used. My biggest reason for selling new is sourcing time.
I agree with everything , also the play/building part to keep the fun, except for me it is the organization part that has taken over which i find more fun than building now. Trying to find the best solutions in storage and everything that goes into it, how to store it while not getting scratches, how to part out and pick for sales faster, trying to get rid of silly errors, etc. And I love the finding lego part, trying to find only build once lego for a good price. 1-3 is not good enough, has to be 1-4 or 1-5 or more in cost vs part out value. But yeah everyone got to find their own fun!
i LOVE these tips because im starting on basically the opposite end of the spectrum. ive been selling locally but cant move some sets so I decided to part out sets I cant move as opposed to trying to just break even or get 5$ profit. thank you for the advice
New vs used is good advice. New is much easier to part out, but you'll end up with the same parts as 1,000 other stores, as you said. Over time it'll work out but you're going to be waiting awhile or significantly dropping your prices to sell parts.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am not in this for the money. I am # 5 and #8 is my consistent love for this little brick. However I i have a lot. And I believe your concept will help provide an small supportive income for my independent studio.
I agree with you thoughts on the BL muggles. What if they updated the site to simplify the shopping and check out process. Do you think the user base would grow?
There's an app called Yard Sale Treasure Map. It's by no-means comprehensive, but it can help you get started. Otherwise, Facebook, Craigslist, etc have a section for garage sales.
Thanks! I have such a massive LEGO collection and I’ve been considering selling some but I’m tripping up on the how. I discovered Brick & Minifig second hand franchise for the first time and wish I’d found it 5-10 years ago. I could open a shop without buying anything. 😂 Unfortunately, I’m not in an area that can likely handle another shop. Maybe this will be my post retirement side gig in 15yrs. 🤷♀️
Like investing in gold 😂 - it is a big time commitment, so you gotta love it and be comfortable with uncertainty some days. If ever you wanna off load some sets - get in touch 😉
good advice on there, there is a couple of community, servers and whatnot but we generraly do not accept everyone as we only want people that are really interested in the business and actually like lego. we dont want any of those folks that start reselling lego just because they saw someone do it. there is also a hole underground market between sellers who buys and sell lego internally to each other in order to get the best prices and stock quickly. for example i supply some store in the USA from europe becuase it is much cheaper
I just mainly want to know if there are fees associated as I intend to buy sets locally for pretty cheap and resell them on bricklink parted out to help ease my costs of buying used sets and things for my collection. So far I have a good amount of stock but I'm waiting to start to get more stuff allotted as well know possible profit margins.
how much do you earn per year via selling LEGO? Or, if this info is not ok to share, what could one earn, if they work as much as you do, with selling LEGO trough bricklink? I have 5 tons of lego bricks (5000 kg), and I am in process of buying 40 tons more (40.000 kg). I have 40.000 minifigs fully equipemd etc, tens of millions of parts, that is why I ask.
Think of it this way… if you have 40,000 minifigs and worst case scenario, they’re only worth $1 a piece, you have $40,000 of inventory. Now you and I both know there are figs worth way more than $1.
Bricklink Muggles 😂 I took a few years off from BL (branched out into antique centers) but I am back and starting fresh, so thank you for this. I found that joining FB Lego resell groups do well. Especially for minifigs that I got great deals on, I could sell items immediately which was nice.

For sure! If you wanna just do it for the fun and to fund the hobby, I think that’s totally valid!
Your transparency is very refreshing.
I really appreciate your candor and taking the time to share this with us. Your decency really shines through, also. Keep up the good work.

Huge factor. I seem to not have trouble finding used bins, so sourcing time is pretty low. But if new is faster, that’s something to keep in mind.
Thanks for sharing. Lots of great content for those thinking of getting into lego reselling.

What a great video. First I’ve seen from you and I’m hooked. Love the conversation and how casual this is… time to binge the rest lol
Welcome to the party!
I recommend doing used. Horrible when a customer that bought used but expects brand new. If you part sets you will never have to deal with that.
That’s valid.

Thank you for these tips, just subscribed. been selling for 2 years now and still learning here in the UK

This was interesting thank you.
Ive had a little thought about this.
Nothing mad. Just a couple of sets or so.
I appreciate the information. Cheers

Great video, greetings from Poland!

I think it absolutely would! Whether or not that ever happens is another story
Thanks for your advice many people like me appreciate you sharing…..god bless 🙏
How do you find all those garage sale? I can find them when they post signs outside on the roads, but is there a better way?

Yup. Bricklink has fees. Any platform you use will have fees. That’s how they stay open :)
Stumbled across the video while watching Bricklink sellers. Great tips and interesting hearing from a fellow Lego reseller!
Thanks for stopping by! Does your name mean you’re down in New Zealand?
@@TravisMarsala Yeah I run a Bricklink/BrickOwl store in New Zealand 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Very usefull. Thank you!
thanks
I'm always on the hunt and keeping my eyes peeled!

That said - you gotta enjoy the process. This is not a get rich quick scheme. It can be long, tedious, and frustrating sometimes.

So your packing is a point of pride. Anything else for you?
I try to also always ship same or next day, but I know that’s not an achievable goal for everybody.
@@TravisMarsalathat’s a good approach. Receive the order, ship it out asap. I bet people like that.

Welcome back! I think about getting into an antique booth every now and then, but I probably romanticize it too much lol
This can’t be viable selling pieces for .10 talk about nickel and dime.
Most orders total up to around $20. You can set a minimum order amount.
@@TravisMarsala thank you for the response, I currently own a hobby store and I was looking to expand my product line.
It can be time intensive though - especially if you’re on a learning curve
I think the lego as it is waste of time. The best way to make money is minifugres there is a lot of money to made.
Some of my highest value orders have been for parts 🤷🏻♂️
