I, too, am enraptured by the second movement. It has a strange quality about its simplicity that cannot be compared to other movements yet is so characteristically Brahms.
I sit down at my piano and play the piano part of the Allegro Appassionato and imagine the Clarinet/Viola playing in my head just because I love that movement so much.

Second movement is hauntingly beautiful, best clarinet sonata by far.

As a clarinetist I never tire playing this magnificent piece of music.
How difficult it is to grasp all the beauty of this sonata. Seems so simple but in reality it is very difficult in many ways. Beautiful ...❤
