Fantastic video, love seeing something that's a bit closer to home that's unlikely to get covered elsewhere, quickly becoming one of my favourite channels!
I honestly would have never thought of Lidl when looking at the new club card logo. Though I also would never have thought that Lidl could trademark just the yellow and blue circle. It probably just applies to retail but still haha.
Same, the yellow circle being similar to Lidl never ever crossed my mind until it made the news. I only found out about this after Tesco lost the lawsuit earlier this year
Tesco’s club card is the greatest ignored scam in the country’s retail lately. As a prime example, a bottle of some liquor was shown as £23, but £10 with the card. Essentially, the right to protect your privacy and shopping data from Tesco selling it out to god knows whom has now acquired a charge that might be as high as 130% of the item’s actual price. Despicable.
I don't actually mind companies copying design elements because it helps the customers easily identify what type of product something is. For instance the Nordpak branding lets customers know that it butter is a sour cream style butter, similar to Lurpak. On a side note it's kind of annoying how hard it is to find regular butter, without rapeseed oil in certain shops nowadays.
The problem is being able to discern which one was the original. My assumption would be the original is pricier and more likely to have genuine food ingredients, whereas the very similar knockoff might be more filled with vegetable oils, emulsifiers, sweeteners, and so on. I don’t want to have to run an etymology analysis on both items to discern which one’s copying which.
From an outside perspective, you’d say Lidl sued tesco over simply a yellow circle, but considering they’re both grocery stores and are direct competitors, you can definitely see that Tesco did this intentionally
About 7 within a 5 mile radius and more of the micro versions within that radius. Spoilt for choice perhaps but they are much of a muchness. Some do fresher veg, some do better cuts of meat, some do better bread, some do better luxery stuff. Just one store that covered it all would be easier but the competition does keep them on their feet.
😊 ...ooops, lucky i never put that on a blue tee shirt 😮. Tbh, the tesco clubcard prices are meaningless anyway if all they state is what the price is with a card. It does not state that the product is a good deal. Likewise those dumb "sale" stickers stores put up. Surely everything in the store is for sale rhrouout the year (except perhaps the till and front door).
I understand my Lidl have got angry with Tesco for this yellow Circle, I think most of their customers Would see a yellow circle and be confused as to what shop they are in
