I read in Leslie Bricusse's biography the other day, that after the 1st take of this song on the scoring stage at fox, the musicians of the Fox symphony orchestra put down their instruments and applauded the arrangement, done by legendary Sandy Courage, such was his mastery!
This is a million times better than Auld Auld Syne. That song is the most depressing song on the planet. Even in 1964 when I heard it as a kid I wanted to leave the room.

Anthony Newley did an LP on which he sings the entire score , it is even better than the film soundtrack..look it up, it's Newley at his absolute best
