You should read the books if you find them, if you love this film then you will love the books, I read a compliation of Dr Dolittle stories, a lot of fun.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! I get so sick of people who look at me all funny when I say "Dr. Dolittle" because they think I mean the uh... "other one" which is horrible, and the original is just marvelous!!! Thanks for posting!!!
I had an old friend at work years ago that used to tell tall tales, we knew a lot of it wasn’t real but it didn’’t matter because it was how he told his tales that made it entertaining. This song reminds me of my old friend Ricky.
I was just in this show as part of the ensemble and this song will not get out of my head! Our Matthew did an amazing job during this song and After Today.
I know not when i first watched this movie, I've had its DVD for as long as my memory will allow, but this song has always resounded in the deepes reaches of my mind whenever I'm lost in joyous fantasy
love this version of dr doolittle, cause he talked to the animals and you actualy thought he could cause the only animal that truly talked was the parrot, unlike the newish version with annoying animals that talked -.-
I bet it must've been that way since after Matthew finished the musical number as he and Tommy enter Dolittle's office and greet a few of the animals (Polynesia the parrot and Chee-Chee the monkey), Dolittle seemed more intelligent than that. And I'm starting to assume you're saying Matthew was stating out what he saw in Dolittle from his point-of-view.
Fair point; the Doctor's technobabble CAN sound rather strange- if not to the extent described here-, but he definitely wins support and friendship for his views even if some people don't understand them.
i am in love with you i think! i hate the re-doing of films! like charlie and the chocolate factory, the original is 100 times better but oh my! so happy someone else agrees
***** Misogynistic as well. He treated Samantha Eggar with total contempt. Harrison was probably a generally arrogant bastard who was nasty to anyone he considered his social inferior - particularly women; which would explain why two of his wives committed suicide.
They actually fired Harrison at one point, but he begged his way back onto the cast. TvTropes has a brilliant trivia section about the trials of making the film.
This isn't the only one left out; "Muppet Treasure Island" and this "Alice in Wonderland" (directed by William Sterling) movie have songs only found on CD!
I love this song because the doctor is absolutely not like any of this whatsoever, it’s just that Matthew is nuts and that’s why we love him. (Though Rex Harrison did not. 😂)
True, but the thing that bugged me most about the Murphy version, aside from people who seem to only know about that one, is that he doesn't have to work at all. He just randomly has some kind of magical powers... lame...
I totally agree. That new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie is terrifying... also... aside from the songs, which I know Roald Dahl didn't like, he wrote the script for the original film... unfortunately poor Ted Geisel is the new target and they won't freaking stop... BTW... Ted Geisel is Dr. Seuss's given name... WATCH CHUCK JONES, people!!! In that vein... you might like "The Phantom Tollbooth 1969"... and the other remake that really gets me... "The Music Man."
I finally saw this movie. It was weird, bizarre, and altogether odd, and I loved every moment of it.
You should read the books if you find them, if you love this film then you will love the books, I read a compliation of Dr Dolittle stories, a lot of fun.

As an Irish woman I love how he compliments the doctor saying he’s practically Irish lol XD Love this song “The world is full of fantasy”
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! I get so sick of people who look at me all funny when I say "Dr. Dolittle" because they think I mean the uh... "other one" which is horrible, and the original is just marvelous!!! Thanks for posting!!!
Haha, I was born in 1997 so all of these good old movies are way before I was even born, but I still prefer all this over to what's out now. ^^
'95 here and I totally agree

Muppets
ive seen this movie so many times as i listen to the song i know exactly what they are doing. Great great movie.xox
Ah...when cinema was cinema.good lord this is great.thank you so much.
I was just in this show as part of the ensemble and this song will not get out of my head! Our Matthew did an amazing job during this song and After Today.
Anthony Newley had a wonderful voice and really knew how to put over a song. IMO, he had a great deal more charm onscreen than Rex Harrison did.
That's most likely because rex just looked at this like a animal version of my fair lady.
The greatest films ever made were all made in the previous century.
this song holds up even now. true classic, gold
I saw the trailer for the new movie today and immediately had to listen to this song. This is the ONLY version in my opinion.
SAME!!!!
me too i get weird looks when i mention its a musical....they think of the new one...the old one is waaaay better =D and it has a push- me- pull- you
Love love love this movie. A classic.
I know not when i first watched this movie, I've had its DVD for as long as my memory will allow, but this song has always resounded in the deepes reaches of my mind whenever I'm lost in joyous fantasy
I always think of The Doctor when I here this. This would be an awesome song to do a Dr. Who fan vid with.
My boyfriend and I are just polishing a filk song right now about The Doctor to this tune. :)
You're welcome. It's a gem of a movie few people have seen. :)
This is the classical and best Doctor Dolittle ever. I grew up with this. the black one isn't bad but definately not as good as this one.
i would love to see a Doctor Who spoof of this
Just what I was thinking! LOL ^_^
I think of a Doctor Who spoof every time I listen to this!
David Fraga one does exist
I couldn't agree more! The original movie is my all-time favorite (and I'm not a youngster!)
I love analysts. :) they do so much good. They fight for causes. They can see the beauty in nature
love this version of dr doolittle, cause he talked to the animals and you actualy thought he could cause the only animal that truly talked was the parrot, unlike the newish version with annoying animals that talked -.-
That movie ruined both Dr Dolittle and Eddie Murphy.
Carson Key yes
I still love a good thunderstorm!!! Still a fave from when I was a tike...
OMFG!! I KNOW!!! I grew up with this! :) I've been looking for these songs F-O-R-E-V-E-R!
well... at least here on youtube. :)
I seen this film long time ago and i loved it and got the dvd and i couln't resit the songs.
My favorite song from this movie!! Loved it when I was little! Still do!
my top favorite song from the whole musical next to I've never seen anything like it.
two people don't believe the world is full of fantasy...
A little rewriting here & there and this would make a great tune for "Doctor Who: The Musical"!
My mom loves this this movie
I like this song.
A new version is due out in 2019 with Robert Downey Jr. as the doctor.
It was terrible - I couldn't make it to the end of that movie.
Fantastic Movie!
My favorite song from one of my favorite movies. Thanks for posting.
Thanks very much for posting this!! Great memories from my childhood.
This just makes me so happy it's unreal!
When I hear this song, I can't help but think of singing this about Doctor Who. :)
One of my favorite movies! I really love this song!!! Thank you for sharing!
the doctor never said these things. mattew is singing about how he used to think the doctor was crazy but he liked him anyway
I still wonder about how an animal like that would... you know... Hooray for musicals!!!
I'm so glad I owned this version of the movie! Heck with new versions (like with Eddie Murphy)!
I bet I'll never watch the Eddie Murphy version of Dr. Dolittle! I bet it ruined the original source material big time.
I love this version And my son prefers it too xxx I love the actors and Rex Harrison was perfect as the doctor. Xx
My new favorite song. Lol
LOVE THIS SONG
I think about that too sometimes XD
in this case, the original is better :)
You took the words right out of my mouth, friend! Have a wonderful day :D

Anthony newley and Rex Harrison loathed each other, mainly because Harrison aka Tyrannosaurus Rex was an arrogant self-centred snob.
+Rex Mundi Yes, I heard that Harrison was nasty to Newley because Newley was half Jewish, and Harrison didn't like Jews.
*****
Misogynistic as well. He treated Samantha Eggar with total contempt. Harrison was probably a generally arrogant bastard who was nasty to anyone he considered his social inferior - particularly women; which would explain why two of his wives committed suicide.
apparently he hated the entire cast of My Fair Lady as well.
They actually fired Harrison at one point, but he begged his way back onto the cast. TvTropes has a brilliant trivia section about the trials of making the film.
SHAINA! Weird to find you here! I'm watching the movie at the moment and came down here to look up "Beautiful Things" Such a good song.
thanks :) i will defo check them out ^.^
Why isn't this on iTunes????
Because Itunes is full of Nazis that hate good songs. You'll also notice youtube doesn't have one clip of this song
This isn't the only one left out; "Muppet Treasure Island" and this "Alice in Wonderland" (directed by William Sterling) movie have songs only found on CD!
My family hates this musical. They don't appreciate the actors T_T
My school has done a Dr dolittle play. 😊
I love this song because the doctor is absolutely not like any of this whatsoever, it’s just that Matthew is nuts and that’s why we love him. (Though Rex Harrison did not. 😂)

@ThingMaBobJimmy if your in australia you can get it on dvd, i found mine at jb hifi for $12 on dvd.
I found a casset tape of it at my nearby Library. Try there.
"My 2nd NAME"
I wonder if they're going to keep the songs in the remake thats supposed to come out in 2020.
Okay so hear me out... Hear me out....
Doctor who
I consider this movie an honorary DW episode for this very reason.
I totally agree. That new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie is terrifying... also... aside from the songs, which I know Roald Dahl didn't like, he wrote the script for the original film... unfortunately poor Ted Geisel is the new target and they won't freaking stop... Why did Samantha Eggar receive top billing in the thumbnail picture? I thought Rex Harrison was a bigger star at that time.
🤔❤️🎧🗝
@melbaa12 Cheers for Doctor Who / classic musicals fans!
@Jukesette
Glad that I'm not the only one! =P
I know I totally agree! It wasn't me who posted, my brother did. Sorry!
Does someone has this song in french ?? I can't find it on youtube :(
my favorite character would be Irish. haha
DOCTOROFMINDMD
The original series Doctor, sure, but not the new series Doctor. The new Dr. Who series is like the Eddie Murphy Dr. Doolittle.
have never found this original movie on YT, anyone know where it can be found?
That accent!
can someone PLEASE tell me where I can find the whole movie? I;ve looked evrywhere
It was a girl called Madeline Mugg not Matthew Mugg
???
how come he says he knows why the moon is made of cheese but no one askes how dose he know?
The tune sounds suspiciously like "Maria" from The Sound of Music.
I don't hear it.
1:40 lol
Great minds think alike? lol
its the sun he said was made of cheese, and people just assume hes right, i mean, hes the doctor come on!
pfffffhahahahahaa!!!!!!
Lol
Did anyone else as a child expect some happy wondrous child idol, and end up with some grouchy fat guy?
