    THANK YOU. Cancelled my order I place last night. I woke up with second thoughts and your video was first on my list. It was verification of my gut.

    The 100-400 will solve that close focus problem. Almost like having a macro (yes, it’s not a macro). I haven’t tried a 2x converter on it but videos I’ve watched suggest that’s not much of a problem far as quality is concerned. My problem is I’m using an A7riii and even the 1.4x I have caused problems because of the f/stop being above f/9. The auto focus doesn’t want to work very well with the 200-600 with the A7riii. I need a new body. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it, lol. I still love the lens though.

      I had the A7riii and you are right, the camera has a hard time keeping up with the lens. Yup time to upgrade (yes, I'm a bad influence) -Monique

    I would have added
    1) you need to increase the shutter speed because of the focal length and weight and especially if you crop
    2) I believe the middle distance of autofocus (in the buttons) has a bias to want to start focus at infinity and stay there. Another UA-camr had mentioned that. I haven’t verified it. Thanks for the content

      Oh yeah we glossed over shutter speed didn't we? I believe your right about set to infinity. Of course some of that depends on what the camera focus settings are. Thanks!

    Thank you guys for the video!!! I have always been careful about how I handle my 200-600 on my camera!!!! The weight is something to consider!!! I'm thinking seriously about getting the 50-400mm Tamron for when I'm out taking landscape pictures only. Just in case I see wildlife, it's a lot lighter than the 200-600. I currently have a 70-300mm for that purpose, but it's a little to short!!! The 50-400 will fit my backpack nicely. I nomaly shoot birds in cropped mode on my a7r5 for the 26 mega pickles!!!!!!!😂👍👍👍

    I just discovered your channel (after just buying this lens). Any tips on when to turn on or off the OSS? Thanks. Luc!

      Most people say to turn it off when on a tripod. I never remember to do that and pix look good 😊

    My 200-600 lived on my tripod for a long time fully assembled in my passenger seat, getting yoinked out and swung around, and frightening enough even have dropped the setup. This all added up to a cracked lens foot, an easy replacement (looking at them real long ones for different gimbal balance now) and much better than a bent mount.

    • @CattailChronicles
      @CattailChronicles  7 місяців тому +2

      Yes! We have a longer tripod mount on the stock foot but a new foot is a great idea.

    I have this lens. Its great! But if you are in the market for a mainly handheld lens that you wont have on a tripod. I also have the Tamron 150-500. The Tamron is a much better lens in most cases. Its much smaller and lighter as well as having a much closer min focus distance. To me the tamron feels like its build better and the switches feel better as well. Optically they are identical in terms of quality. The vibration control is slightly better in the tamron as well. That is before talking about the price. You can pick up a used tamron 150-500 or one that has a few dust particals in it for around 800-900 dollars. Dust is going to be inside both lenses anyways and wont affect anything. 1700 dollars vs 800 dollars in this economy? You could buy an entire a7riii with the savings and have a lens that is just as good.

      It's from Camskins. They have lots of bright and colorful skins but also a few camo and black options.

      @@CattailChronicles thanks. I will take a look. Im going to fit the lens to my A6700. With the APSC 1.5x crop the range gets silly. I have seen a few people using them on that camera with mega results 😍

    yes it is a good lens, but lately I have my eye on the Sigma 60-600 you talked about the focus distance on the sony...the Sigma has a much closer focus distance and 60mm to 600mm is very nice for wildlife if it is closer..the only downside is the fps with the Sigma.....any toughts?
