Such great tips, thanks for the video, I have learned so much from your channel as an amateur photographer using the Sony 200-600 as my first major telephoto.

Really helpful advice. Sometimes obvious things can be over looked....like firmware updates for camera and lens.
I Shoot with the Sony A1 and the 200-600mm lens, so your videos are SUPER HELPFUL.
I do appreciate the time and effort on your part to put these videos together.
By the way, the audio is not that bad as mentioned in a previous comment.

I too shoot with the a1 and also have the a7R IV. My thoughts are the a1handles the lens much better.Having said that I shoot a lot of BIF. So the higher frame rate makes a huge difference. Another great video.

I live in Australia, living on the road in a 15' poptop towed by a Prado 120. I have my passengers front seat set up to carry my cameras and some lenses.
I bought the A7IV to dedicate tot he 200 - 600 so it is always immediately available for wildlife ( the A7iii is for most other stuff from landscapes. street, macro where time is not of the essence with lens changes)
One of the biggest drawbacks in Oz is haze and smoke from bush fires.
Haze can be heat and/or the "blue" haze produced from the millions of eucalyptus gum trees as well as other oily ones. Hence the name Blue Mountains in NSW.
Landscapes with telephoto lenses can be a nightmare as when travelling one can not always pick the time of day. Certainly LR Dehaze is a great help - sometimes.

Yikes that is A LOT of haze! Love the idea of dedicating a camera body to a lens.

Thanks! I just updated my lens! First time I ever updated a lens. Also did the camera at the same time.
All the things you mentioned are just basic physics. Unfortunately, life, and especially optics, is a compromise.
The one I enjoyed most is the heat wave one. Awhile ago I watch a lens review video where the fellow said the lens wasn't sharp and in the photos and the video you could see the heat distortion. No idea how good the lens was but the heat wave looked pretty sharp! Thanks again.

New camera and lens is exciting ! Yeah the heat distortion sneaks up on ya. Have fun!

Thank you for the tips on the lens. I rented one for this weekend to test out. What are your recommendations for a wireless remote? you probably said in a different video, but what tripod do you use?

Thanks for an interesting video. I'm using the same lens with the a7iv. I like the "holster" you are using. Maybe you've already done a video on carrying gadgets, but I live in south Africa and many of these things are not available. Any product names would help. Thanks for great info, regards Alan.

One you missed is to remove the camera strap from the camera when on a tripod. A little wind can jitter the camera.

  • @MattGeorgeusa

Great video you two. I have the same lens and I’ve been able to take some good shots with fast shutter speeds. But when I shoot longer exposures on the tripod I can’t get sharp photos. I wait for the wind to die down, carbon fiber tripod is still. I have a wireless shutter release setup. What Mode on the lens should it be set to for non moving landscapes. Also why do you think the lens moves in the view finder when I press the shutter release down. Is that because I have an image stabilization feature wanting to compensate and it moves inside. It seems like that throws it off. Is that the IBOS / OSS somebody mentioned in the comment. So what mode should I be in and what about the IBIS setting. Cool lens but I’m getting frustrated not getting sharp photos of landscape’s. I’m shooting on a Sony A7iv and I’ve not updated the firmware I bought it new in July 23. Thanks

    • @CattailChronicles
      @CattailChronicles  7 місяців тому +1

I would have the lens on infinity & #1. Use silent shooting to make sure you are not using the mechanical shutter. Make sure autofocus is on single (not continuous) so that the camera doesn't try to refocus when you press the shutter.

You can also use a hand warmer and a rubber band to help with dew.

If using it on a tripod, turn off the anti-vibration/anti-shake, or may introduce blurriness into your photo. What’s the time I’m shooting this for bird photography, and I handhold pretty much all my shots. I do have the 1.4x converter, which I use rarely as I do notice a little bit of softness in the birds eyes. However, it can easily be corrected in Lightroom, but I try to stay away or at least minimize my processing. I don’t use it as much as I initially did. I have added the grip to my Sony A7Riii, as it does help with the balancing of utilizing this lens handheld. While I do use the lens when transporting this lens in a bag, once I’m in a place where I’m using the lens I have 3-D printed a cap for the lens hood. When I put the lens down, I just slide the lens hood cap on and don’t have to worry about, crawling into the hood, and reduction in dust. At times, I do have my camera sitting lens down in my living room, because I do shoot out my living room window to take photos of birds as we back into a green space, and the optical viewer can collect dust when not utilize on a regular basis because of it being Face up (the back of the camera facing the ceiling). So I have 3-D printed a cover for the viewfinder.

Definitely the firmware, especially if shooting on Sony A7RV, get on that latest firmware.
Also consider disabling IBIS / OSS if you're on a tripod for better clarity

I have the a9 and the a7r5! Pictures on the a9 are tac sharp. Lol pics on the a7r5 are a little soft. I know that this is the issue, I'm just a little on the lazy side! A7r5 is used more for landscapes and the a9 is for birds. 50% of the time I manually focus or I'm shooting wide angle! Maybe I will update it tomorrow! Hahahaha!!!

Small air movement inside the lens due to heat differences in the materials of the lens.
