- (THIS IS A RE-UPLOAD AFTER ISSIES WITH ORIGINAL VIDEO!)
After upgrading to the Sony A7r3 nearly two years ago I had only used my Sony A6400 as a backup camera and for filming UA-cam videos. In this video I take the A6400 out for a day to see if can still perform as a top notch wildlife photography camera in 2023. Now over four years old does this camera provide a perfect lower cost option for the beginner wanting a high specification camera that won't break the bank.
The list below contains the equipment I use for Wildlife Photography and video production. I have provided an affiliate link for each bit of gear. If you buy using this link I get a small commission which helps towards producing this channel. Thank You👍

Well the camera and the photographer produced some great results Scott. Nice one mate and all the best for 2024
Hi Scott another great video, love the hare and Hobby with the dragonfly 😀👍
Thanks mate, I have had some great success with this little camer👍
Great job on the video Scott. The camera has served you well since you’ve had it and you’ve captured some great moments and images 👍
Cheers Adrian, still love getting out with it when i want a lighter setup. Have a great weekend mate🙏👍
Great video - I think it would have been helpful to see how you adjust settings in real time. Obviously you aren't using the 6400 to record the blog, so maybe have whatever you use for recording video set up on you while you are on the platform using the tripod and talk to us about the settings you are changing as you change them. I mean, if you want to teach us, that would be ideal (at least for me!). Eager to learn more from you - thanks!
Great suggestion! I will look to incorporate more of this going forward. One of the things to remember is that these cameras are highly customizable and what might work for me might not work for you. But giving viewers the opportunity to see how I do it is a good idea👌👍
@@scotttilleyphotography totally agree - for me it's understanding the rationale for the settings being chosen. I'm using shutter speed of 1/125 because.... I've set my aperture to f11 because.... I'm in Aperture priority because....
These are the pieces I am missing that would greatly help my photography skills (or so I think)
👍📷😎
Thanks Rob🙏👍
Thanks for great sharing! Could you tel what focus zone do you use for fast flying birds and do you use tracking focus for it?
Hi, for fast flying birds I tend to use the central area of focus points on continuous focus but for very fast birds like swift or hobby I will use all of the focus points on continuous auto focus. Hope that helps, and sorry for the delayed response, I have been away for a week. All the best!👍🙏
I've been using the a6400 for almost four years now, and the only issues it has are the lack of AF sensitivity settings for stills, and a laggy viewfinder. Not much to complain about otherwise.
Thanks for watching its a fantastic camera and love mine for when I want to travel light👍
Sir , please suggest me budget wildlife photography lens for a6400
Hi, the options are pretty limited and depends what you would class as budget. Of the lenses I have used I liked the Tamron 150-600 G2 which is also great for small birds. If I had to pick one I would go for the Sigma 100-400 E mount. I also used this lens and found it to be very sharp and lightweight. Other than that you could look at using adaptors such as metabones with older lenses such as Canon 100-400 etc. Hope that helps. Scott👍
I have been using Sony a6400 for last 6 months. For stills, it's ok. But for video, it is quite difficult for auto focus and particularly when subject is moving. Low light capabilities is also not so good .
Hi, I don't have any difficulty for filming with it in low light but I agree that with most cameras of this age the autofocus in video is not up to the same level as for stills photography. I tend to manual focus some of the time for this reason. 👍
Can't decide between the a6400 and the a6600. Over here where I live the a6400 is more expensive actually. Gonna start studying photography soon. Any recommendation?
I haven't used the A6600 but I suspect there very similar. I would make a list of what you most want from the camera. If you google sony a6400 vs sony a6600 you can usually get a like for like comparison. Then just go fir the one that most fits your needs. I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed whichever you choose 👍
Go with 6700😂
@@milindsalunkhe3784 I wish. It's still out of my budget for the moment. Right now I have the a6400, a6600 and a7 II on my short list.
go with the A6600. It has the bigger Z battery. It will last a whole day. It also has a bigger grip and more comfortable to hold.
@@OnlyCitrus Thanks man. In the meantime i went with the Panasonic Lumix S5 as it was at the same price on sale.
