    The most amazing bassist. I watched him warm up for a clinic on his upright, the room was silent, then erupted into applause. That was a warm up.

    NASTY NASTY NASTY!!! TOO FUNKY !!! I appreciate what he says about not fighting your bass and that makes sense. I've seen plenty bass players fighting their bass. But here in this video, he does it effortlessly, even when gets in his zone!! Simply amazing!!!

    Brien, most probably, the most versatile bassist on the planet. He plays all sorts of weird and wonderfully tuned instruments, tenor and piccolo and certainly is a monster double bass player. All this as well as being an incredible composer.....

    Brian Bromberg can be considered the best doubler on the planet right now. This video definitely shows this guys virtuosity even on the electric. Who needs double thumping when you can play like this! Simply amazing! Thanks for posting Gigi!

    Absolutely true when he says "no need to fight with your bass". That's exactly what I was doing when played actively, hence, was never successful in slap playing...

      @franckmuller-astruc5673 5 років тому +1

      But you have to admit that some bass design really need you to fight with it sometime ;-) but the bass will allways be the winer as we have 2 hands, she has 4 strings and 92 notes (minimum) to fight with !

    • @differentdrummer6162

      You know what you're talking about - hitting the strings with your left/fretting hand is as much a part of a tight and fluid slap technique as a mighty thumb. I can remember being shown how to do it. A good day.

    Poping with the middle fingers feels so much more natural than poping with my index finger
    thanks

    • @tatt4music
      @tatt4music 6 років тому +1

      Johan Rodén
      I have always used my middle finger more for popping than my index finger. It just makes a lot more sense. It keeps your hand in what I call a claw formation. And it’s more natural for the human hand in general.

    I've seen this relaxation stuff been "promoted" in more videos , Gary Willis for instance also is a strong believer in not overstressing the muscles in your hands and ultimately your arms and shoulders. At some point, all the greats develop similar techniques. Brian Bromberg certainly is one of them. Not all people like his, sometimes guitar like playing, but that is the price you have to pay for being a bass genius i guess.

    My two cents: Brian makes several excellent suggestions, but perhaps doesn't "hammer them home". One: if you allow your right forearm to rotate on an axis you end up with a smooth, fast slap technique. Two: letting your left hand do some of the percussive work can make things sound a lot faster with much less effort. Try practicing drum rudiments with the RH thumb and LH fingers (slapping down on the fingerboard) working opposite each other like drumsticks, and you'll see what I mean.
